AB  - In this paper the changes on growth, photosynthesis and water relations were tested by non-invasive fluorescence method. The applications of this method allow to determine some functional properties of prestigious maize inbred lines with erect top leaves. So the temperature dependency of delayed fluorescence intensity maximum of ZPPL 16 is observed at higher temperatures than for ZPPZ 62. This fact correlates with low values of phase transition of activation energy Ea in thylakoid membrane and accompanied by a decrease of the angle and area of the leaf, as well as with the content and the rate of water release from the seed. It seems reasonable to assume that, DF can be applied in breeding and maize hybrid seed production for the estimation of prestigious maize inbred lines and their resistance adaptability to increased and high temperatures, as well as, to drought.

AB  - This study confirmed our hypothesis that new maize inbred lines and hybrids derived from them had a dominant property of an efficient photosynthetic model. This property is successfully used in breeding programmes, modern technologies of the seed, and commercial maize production. This statement is supported by the results displayed on the erect position of the top leaves of new maize inbred lines and photosynthetic and florescence parameters: the change of the delayed chlorophyll fluorescence intensity during its course and dynamics, the Arrhenius criterion for the determination of critical temperatures (phase transition temperatures) and the activation energies, as a measure of conformational changes in chloroplasts and the thylakoid membrane. Furthermore, a grain structure including its physical and chemical parameters of new maize inbred lines and hybrids was analysed in the present study. In addition, relevant breeding, seed production and technological traits, properties and parameters of new maize inbred lines and maize hybrids were observed in the present study. The overall presented results show that properties of new inbred lines and maize hybrids are based on the nature of conformational and functional changes that occur in their chloroplasts and thylakoid membranes, as well as, on progressive effects in modern breeding, contemporary hybrid seed production, and the commercial maize production.
AB  - Proučavane su dve nove inbred linije kukuruza: ZPPL 218 i ZPPL 318 i sa njima stvoreni perspektivni hibridi ZP 600, ZP 606 i ZP 666 za koje je dokazano da poseduju dominantno svojstvo efikasnog fotosintetičnog modela što se uspešno koristi u oplemenjivanju, savremenim tehnologijama za proizvodnju hibridnog semena i merkantilnog kukuruza. Ovoj konstataciji idu u prilog izloženi rezultati o uspravnom položaju vršnih listova novih inbred linija kukuruza i o fotosintetično-fluorescentnim pokazateljima: promeni intenziteta zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila u njenom toku i dinamici, Arenijusovom kriterijumu za određivanje kritičnih temperatura (temperature faznih prelaza) i o energiji aktivacije kao meri strukturnih promena u hloroplastima i tilakoidnoj membrani. U radu se analizira struktura zrna uključujući i njegove fizičke i hemijske pokazatelje novih inbred linija i hibrida kukuruza. Isto tako, u radu se razmatraju relevantna selekcionarska, semenarska i tehnološka svojstva, karakteristike i parametri novih inbred linija i hibrida kukuruza. Ukupno izloženi rezultati pokazuju da su svojstva novih inbred linija i hibrida kukuruza zasnovana na prirodi strukturnih i funkcionalnih promena, koje se odigravaju u hloroplastima i tilakoidnoj membrani kao i na progresivnim efektima u modernom oplemenjivanju, savremenoj proizvodnji hibridnog semena i merkantilnog kukuruza.

Variability of yield and kernel quality parameters of popcorn hybrids (Zea mays L. Everta)

AB  - The experiment with 12 popcorn hybrids was set up according to the RCB design in three replicates. Examined traits were: grain yield (GY), popping volume (PV) and number of kernels per 10g (NK). ANOVA showed statistical differences among examined genotypes according to all three traits. Grain yield of the hybrids varied from 3.36 t/ha (ZPSK 645/1k) up to 6.07 t/ha (ZPSK 611k). The lowest popping volume had hybrid ZPSK 501k (27.33 cm3/g), which is considered unsatisfactory, while five hybrids had good popping volume over 38.00 cm3/g. Negative correlation was determined between GY and PV (-0.52), which although wasn't significant indicated that higher yielding hybrids often have lower popping volumes. Significant correlation was between GY and NK (-0.70*), and between NK and PV (0.66*). These results point out to the fact that breeding of popcorn is very complex process, for there is necessity of producing high yielding and good popping quality hybrids, which is mostly contradictory.
AB  - Definisanje visokog kvaliteta kukuruza kokičara zavisi od aspekta kako proizvođača, dorađivača tako i potrošača. Zbog toga se posebna pažnja u oplemenjivanju kukuruza kokičara posvećuje povećanju prinosa, ali sa zadržavanjem i povećanjem kvaliteta iskokaknog i neiskokanog zrna. Ogled sa 12 hibrida kukuruza kokičara postavljen je po principu slučajnog bloka u 3 ponavljanja. Ispitivane su osobine: prinos zrna kukuruza, zapremina kokičavosti i broj zrna u 10 g. Analiza varijanse pokazala je da postoje statistički značajne razlike između posmatranih genotipova u pogledu sve tri osobine. Prinos zrna hibrida u ovom istraživanju, kretao se od 3,36 t/ha (ZPSK 645/1k) do 6,07 t/ha (ZPSK 611k). Najmanju zapreminu ostvario je hibrid ZPSK 501k (27,33 cm3/g), što se smatra izuzetno niskom zapreminom, dok je 5 hibrida imalo dobru zapreminu kokičavosti od preko 38,00 cm3/g. Najvišu zapreminu kokičavosti ostvario je ZPSK 649/1k sa 39,50 cm3/g. Šest hibrida iz ovog istraživanja imalo je krupno zrno, pet hibrida je bilo srednje krupnoće zrna, dok je hibrid ZPSK 501k (83 zrna u 10 g) bio sitnog zrna. Ovakvi rezultati govore u prilog komleksnosti procesa oplemenjivanja kukuruza kokičara.

AB  - This study conforms the hypothesis that there are elite maize inbred lines and hybrids with erect top leaves, which have a dominant property of an efficient photosynthetic and fluorescent model, that is successfully used in modern breeding programmes and the production of hybrid seed and commercial maize. This statement is supported by the displayed results on the erect position of the top leaves, the dynamics of grain dry-down during the maturation period and photosynthetic and florescence parameters: the temperature dependence of the delayed chlorophyll fluorescence intensity, the Arrhenius criterion for the determination of critical temperatures (phase transition temperatures) and the activation energies. The presented results show that properties of observed maize inbreeds and their hybrids are based on the nature of conformational and functional changes that occur in their thylakoid membranes and other chemical structures of tissues of grain and intact leaves, as well as, on positive effects in maize breeding.
AB  - U ovom radu potvrđuje se naša hipoteza da postoje elitne inbred linije kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova koje poseduju dominantno svojstvo efikasnog fotosintetično-fluorescentnog modela, te da se, kao takve, mogu uspešno koristiti u savremenim programima oplemenjivanja i proizvodnje hibridnog semena kukuruza. Ovoj konstataciji idu u prilog izloženi rezultati o uspravnom položaju vršnih listova prestižnih linija kukuruza, dinamici otpuštanja vode iz zrna u periodu sazrevanja i o fotosintetično-fluorescentnim pokazateljima: temperaturnoj zavisnosti intenziteta zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila, Arenijusovom kriterijumu za određivanje kritičnih temperatura (temperature faznih prelaza) i o energiji aktivacije. Ukupno izloženi rezultati pokazuju da su svojstva prestižnih inbred linija kukuruza zasnovana na prirodi strukturnih i funkcionalnih promena, koje se odigravaju u njihovim tilakoidnim membranama i drugim hemijskim strukturama tkiva intaktnog lista i zrna, kao i na pozitivnim efektima u oplemenjivanju kukuruza.

The presented results show that properties of observed maize inbreeds and their hybrids are based on the nature of conformational and functional changes that occur in their thylakoid membranes and other chemical structures of tissues of grain and intact leaves, as well as, on positive effects in maize breeding., U ovom radu potvrđuje se naša hipoteza da postoje elitne inbred linije kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova koje poseduju dominantno svojstvo efikasnog fotosintetično-fluorescentnog modela, te da se, kao takve, mogu uspešno koristiti u savremenim programima oplemenjivanja i proizvodnje hibridnog semena kukuruza. Ovoj konstataciji idu u prilog izloženi rezultati o uspravnom položaju vršnih listova prestižnih linija kukuruza, dinamici otpuštanja vode iz zrna u periodu sazrevanja i o fotosintetično-fluorescentnim pokazateljima: temperaturnoj zavisnosti intenziteta zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila, Arenijusovom kriterijumu za određivanje kritičnih temperatura (temperature faznih prelaza) i o energiji aktivacije. Ukupno izloženi rezultati pokazuju da su svojstva prestižnih inbred linija kukuruza zasnovana na prirodi strukturnih i funkcionalnih promena, koje se odigravaju u njihovim tilakoidnim membranama i drugim hemijskim strukturama tkiva intaktnog lista i zrna, kao i na pozitivnim efektima u oplemenjivanju kukuruza.",

The presented results show that properties of new inbred lines and prospective maize hybrids are based on the nature of conformational and functional changes that occur in their chloroplasts and thylakoid membranes, as well as, on progressive effects in maize breeding, modern hybrid seed production and the commercial maize production.
AB  - U ovom radu vršena su proučavanja novih elitnih inbred linija kukuruza: ZPPL 218 i ZPPL 318 i perspektivnih hibrida kukuruza ZP 600, ZP 606 i ZP 666 stvorenih iz njih. Pokazano je da se potvrđuje naša hipoteza da nove elitne inbred linije i perspektivni hibridi kukuruza poseduju dominantno svojstvo efikasnog fotosintetičnog modela što se uspešno koristi u oplemenjivanju, savremenim tehnologijama proizvodnje hibridnog semena i merkantilnog kukuruza. Ovoj konstataciji idu u prilog izloženi rezultati o uspravnom položaju vršnih listova novih inbred linija kukuruza i o fotosintetički-fluorescentnim pokazateljima: promeni intenziteta zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila u njenom toku i dinamici, Arenijusovom kriterijumu za određivanje kritičnih temperature (temperature faznih prelaza) i o energiji aktivacije kao meri strukturnih promena u hloroplastima i tilakoidnoj membrani. U radu se analiziraju struktura zrna uključujući i njegove fizičke i hemijske pokazatelje novih inbred linija kukuruza. Isto tako, u radu se razmatraju relevantna selekcionarska, semenarska i tehnološka svojstva, karakteristike i parametri novih inbred linija i perspektivnih hibrida kukuruza. Ukupno izloženi rezultati pokazuju da su svojstva novih inbred linija i perspektivnih hibrida kukuruza, zasnovana na prirodi strukturnih i funkcionalnih promena koje se odigravaju u hloroplastima i tilakoidnim membranama, kao i na progresivnim efektima u oplemenjivanju, savremenoj proizvodnji hibridnog semena i merkatilnog kukuruza.

Moreover, other relevant significant breeding and seed production properties (commercial maize quality over grain structure, physical and chemical parameters) of maize inbred lines and their hybrids were analyzed in the present study.
AB  - Proučavane su četiri prestižne inbred linije kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova: ZPPL 16, ZPPL 218, ZPPL 62 i ZPPL 233. Ove linije su, kao majka ili otac, uključene u stvaranje više od 50 hibrida kukuruza. U tekućem srednjeročnom periodu široku komercijalnu primenu našao je veći broj hibrida kukuruza: ZP 341, ZP 360, ZP 434, ZP 578, ZP 606, ZP 677, ZP 684 i drugi. U ovom radu analizirani su samo reprezentativni hibridi kukuruza: ZP 341 (FAO 300), ZP 434 (FAO 400), ZP 578 (FAO 500) i ZP 684 (FAO 600). Ovim radom potvrđuje se naša hipoteza da postoje elitne inbred linije i hibridi kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova, koji poseduju dominantno svojstvo efikasnog fotosintetično-fluorescentnog modela i uspešno se koriste u savremenim programima oplemenjivanja, proizvodnji hibridnog semena i merkantilnog kukuruza. Ovaj zaključak dobijen je uz primenu neinvazivnog fotosintetično-fluorescentnog metoda pogodnog za ocenu efikasnosti fotomodela. Dobijene fotosintetične karakteristike proučavanih prestižnih inbred linija kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova zasnovane su na efektima i prirodi promena zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila koje se odigravaju u njihovim tilakoidnim membranama, čiji su pokazatelji temperaturna zavisnost intenziteta zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila, Arenijusov kriterijum za utvrđivanje kritičnih temperatura (temperature faznih prelaza) u tilakoidnim membranama i energije aktivacije. Izloženi rezultati o veličini ugla između pravca prostiranja prvog lista iznad klipa i pravca prostiranja stabljike, kao i rezultati o dinamici oslobađanja vode iz zrna u periodu njegovog sazrevanja dodatno pokazuju da su svojstva proučavanih inbred linija kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova pogodni kriterijumi za egzaktniji, racionalniji i brži proces oplemenjivanja. Takođe su analizirana i druga relevantna selekciona i semenarska svojstva proučavanih prestižnih inbred linija i hibrida kukuruza (kvalitet merkantilnog kukuruza preko strukture zrna, fizičkih i hemijskih parametara).

AB  - Man has always been using cereal grains in his diet. When traditional stone mills were replaced the mass white flour production began. Rejecting whole grain and orientating exclusively to white bread and bakery products, mankind eventually suppressed extremely valuable cereals (millet, barley, oat, rye, buckwheat, amaranth and even maize) from its nutrition. During the second half of the last century people became aware of a need to use again natural sources of food and high biological values of such food for the human organism. One of basic principals of correct and healthy nutrition is daily consumption of whole-grain cereals. Based on the most recent trends in the world science of food, the objective of this study was to present the most important properties and prospective of the production development and utilization of the most important cereals in our country and abroad. In terms of obtained scientific and research results, potential possibilities, status and needs on markets, and in accordance with recommendations made by nutritionists, the production of organic cereals and their products of high nutritive values and health safety, is considered remarkably actual and attractive. The aim of the study is to draw attention to this very important sector of the contemporary science and technology, for which it can be justifiably claimed that is full of real and great challenges.
AB  - Čovek je oduvek u svojoj ishrani koristio zrno cerealija, odnosno žita. Tek je zamena klasičnih kamenih mlinova dovela do masovne proizvodnje belog brašna. Odbacujući celo zrno i orijentišući se isključivo na beli hleb i peciva savremeno čovečanstvo je postepeno potisnulo iz svoje ishrane izuzetno vredna žita: proso, ječam, ovas, raž, heljdu, štir, pa čak i kukuruz. Druga polovina prošlog veka donosi buđenje svesti o potrebi vraćanja na prirodne izvore hrane i visokim biološkim vrednostima koje ona ima za ljudski organizam. Jedan od osnovnih principa pravilne i zdrave ishrane jeste svakodnevna upotreba integralnih cerealija. Cerealije su jedna od najzastupljenijih biljnih vrsta u organskoj proizvodnji u svetu. Sagledavajući najnovije trendove svetske nauke o hrani za zadatak ovog rada je postavljeno da se prikažu najbitnija svojstva i perspektive razvoja proizvodnje i korišćenja najvažnijih cerealija u našoj zemlji i u svetu. Polazeći od do sada ostvarenih naučnoistraživačkih rezultata, potencijalnih mogućnosti, stanja i potreba na tržištu, a u skladu sa preporukama nutricionista, proizvodnja organskih cerealija i njihovih proizvoda visoke nutritivne vrednosti i zdravstvene bezbednosti se smatra izuzetno aktuelnom i atraktivnom. Cilj rada je da skrene pažnju na ovaj veoma važan sektor savremene nauke i tehnologije za koji se sa pravom se može reći da je pun pravih i velikih izazova.

Rejecting whole grain and orientating exclusively to white bread and bakery products, mankind eventually suppressed extremely valuable cereals (millet, barley, oat, rye, buckwheat, amaranth and even maize) from its nutrition. During the second half of the last century people became aware of a need to use again natural sources of food and high biological values of such food for the human organism. One of basic principals of correct and healthy nutrition is daily consumption of whole-grain cereals. Based on the most recent trends in the world science of food, the objective of this study was to present the most important properties and prospective of the production development and utilization of the most important cereals in our country and abroad. In terms of obtained scientific and research results, potential possibilities, status and needs on markets, and in accordance with recommendations made by nutritionists, the production of organic cereals and their products of high nutritive values and health safety, is considered remarkably actual and attractive. The aim of the study is to draw attention to this very important sector of the contemporary science and technology, for which it can be justifiably claimed that is full of real and great challenges., Čovek je oduvek u svojoj ishrani koristio zrno cerealija, odnosno žita. Tek je zamena klasičnih kamenih mlinova dovela do masovne proizvodnje belog brašna. Odbacujući celo zrno i orijentišući se isključivo na beli hleb i peciva savremeno čovečanstvo je postepeno potisnulo iz svoje ishrane izuzetno vredna žita: proso, ječam, ovas, raž, heljdu, štir, pa čak i kukuruz. Druga polovina prošlog veka donosi buđenje svesti o potrebi vraćanja na prirodne izvore hrane i visokim biološkim vrednostima koje ona ima za ljudski organizam. Jedan od osnovnih principa pravilne i zdrave ishrane jeste svakodnevna upotreba integralnih cerealija. Cerealije su jedna od najzastupljenijih biljnih vrsta u organskoj proizvodnji u svetu. Sagledavajući najnovije trendove svetske nauke o hrani za zadatak ovog rada je postavljeno da se prikažu najbitnija svojstva i perspektive razvoja proizvodnje i korišćenja najvažnijih cerealija u našoj zemlji i u svetu. Polazeći od do sada ostvarenih naučnoistraživačkih rezultata, potencijalnih mogućnosti, stanja i potreba na tržištu, a u skladu sa preporukama nutricionista, proizvodnja organskih cerealija i njihovih proizvoda visoke nutritivne vrednosti i zdravstvene bezbednosti se smatra izuzetno aktuelnom i atraktivnom. Cilj rada je da skrene pažnju na ovaj veoma važan sektor savremene nauke i tehnologije za koji se sa pravom se može reći da je pun pravih i velikih izazova.",

AB  - Kukuruz je je jedna od najznačajnijih gajenih biljaka i kao takav ujedno i jedna od najznačajnijih prirodno obnovljivih ugljenohidratnih sirovina energije i jako velikog broja veoma različitih proizvoda. Dominacija i superiorni položaj kukuruza uslovljeni su izuzetno širokim, veoma raznovrsnim i ogromnim mogućnostima njegovog korišćenja. U ovom radu su prikazana dosadašnja dostignuća i diskutovane su perspektive budućeg razvoja hemije i tehnologije kukuruza, odnosno korišćenja kukuruza u našoj zemlji i u svetu. Cilj rada je bio da skrene pažnja na ovaj sektor nauke koji je pun pravih i velikih izazova. Opisane su promene u proizvodnji i korišćenju kukuruza. Postavljena su i neka od veoma važnih pitanja kao na primer: šta je to što čini kukuruz toliko i tako vrednom prirodnoobnovljivom sirovinom, šta je to kvalitet zrna kukuruza, kako i zašto sejemo kukuruz a žanjemo energiju i proizvode?.

Breeding of speciality maize for industrial purposes

AB  - The breeding programme on speciality maize with specific traits was established at the Maize Research Institute, Zemun Polje, several decades ago. The initial material was collected, new methods applying to breeding of speciality maize, i.e. popping maize, sweet maize and white-seeded maize, were introduced. The aim was to enhance and improve variability of the initial material for breeding these three types of maize. Then, inbred lines of good combining abilities were developed and used as components for deriving new superior popping maize hybrids, sweet maize hybrids and white-seeded maize hybrids. Breeding was aimed at the increase of the popping volume of new inbred lines and hybrids of popping maize, then at the improvement of quality of popped kernels - flakes, and at yield increasing. Furthermore, the aim was to improve quality of sweet maize for different purposes, industrial processing and consumption as fresh food and also to improve yield and quality of white-seeded maize. As a result of such breeding, 28, 11 and 9 sweet maize, popping maize and white-seeded maize hybrids were released, respectively.
AB  - U Institutu za kukuruz 'Zemun Polje', Beograd, je pre nekoliko decenija zasnovan program oplemenjivanja kukuruza specifičnih svojstava. Prikupljan je početni materijal, radilo se na upoznavanju najnovijih metoda koje se koriste u oplemenjivanju kukuruza specifičnih osobina, tj. kokičara, šećerca i kukuruza belog zrna. Cilj je bio povećanje i poboljšanje varijabilnosti početnog materijala za oplemenjivanje ova tri tipa kukuruza. Zatim, stvaranje samooplodnih linija visoke kombinacione vrednosti koje se koriste kao komponente za stvaranje novih superiornijih hibrida kukuruza šećerca i kokičara i kukuruza belog zrna. Oplemenjivanje je usmereno na povećanje zapremine kokičavosti novih samooplodnih linija i hibrida kokičara, kvaliteta iskokanog zrna 'kokica' i prinosa zrna. Zatim, poboljšanju kvaliteta kukuruza šećerca za različite načine korišćenja, industrijska prerada i potrošnja u svežem stanju i povećanju prinosa i kvaliteta hibrida belog zrna. Rezultat dosadasnjeg rada je veći broj priznatih hibrida kukuruza šećerca (28), kokičara (11) i kukuruza belog zrna (9).

Effect of Micronisation on the Composition and Properties of the Flour from White, Yellow and Red Maize

AB  - The process of micronisation, a short time high temperature process that utilizes electromagnetic radiation in the infrared region to rapidly heat materials, is often used to improve storage stability of whole grain flour. In this work the consequences of such temperature treatment on the quality and solubility of proteins, viscosity, content of total phenolics, tocopherols, beta-carotene, as well as the antioxidant properties of maize (Zen mays L.) flour are presented. For these studies three maize hybrids were used: the semi-flint hybrid ZP 633 with pronounced yellow kernels, ZP Rumenka with dark red pericarp and yellow endosperm, and ZP 551b hybrid which is characterized by white kernels. The process of micronisation did not change the content of crude protein, the amount of albumin, globulin and zein were decreased, while glutelin remained the same or increased after micronisation. As a consequence of thermal effect on maize protein, tryptophan content was significantly decreased. Micronisation had a significant effect on the pasting properties of the selected maize flour. Viscosity of all micronised flour samples increased constantly, but without reaching a peak during heating of the slurry to 95 degrees C. At 95 degrees C it was slightly higher, but final viscosity at 50 degrees C was significantly lower. The micronisation treatment decreased the content of bioactive compounds (tocopherols, beta-carotene) naturally present in the raw grains. The whole grain flour from micronised grain, with modified nutritional and technological characteristics, represents a good raw material for production of gluten-free products.

Inheritance and a correlation between ear yield and shelling percentage in sweet maize (Zea mays L. saccharata)

AB  - In the present study, the mode of inheritance and combining abilities of six sweet maize inbred lines for ear yield and shelling percentage were observed by the method of diallel analysis. Estimates of general (GCA) and specific (SCA) combining abilities were highly significant (p lt 0.01) for both observed traits. Dominant gene effects were more significant for ear yield, while additive gene effects were more important for shelling percentage. Significant GCA for ear yield was observed only for L4, which also showed high potential in hybrid combinations with significant SCA estimates. For shelling percentage, significant GCA estimates were observed for L1 and L2, and these inbreds were also components of hybrids with significant SCA estimates. The correlation between ear yield and shelling percentage was highly significant (0.58**) among observed genotypes, showing a positive, medium high correlation and pointing out to the fact that high yielding genotypes also have high shelling percentage and vice versa.
AB  - U radu je metodom dialelnog ukrštanja (6x6) proučavan način nasleđivanja i kombinacione sposobnosti šest samooplodnih linija kukuruza šećerca (L1-L6) za svojstva prinos klipa kukuruza i randman zrna. Analizom varijanse kombinacionih sposobnosti utvrđena je visoka značajnost vrednosti opštih (OKS) i posebnih kombinacionih sposobnosti (PKS) za oba svojstva. Presudan uticaj neaditivnog delovanja gena utvrđen je za nasleđivanje prinosa klipa, dok je za randman zrna aditivno delovanje gena bilo značajnije. Značajna vrednost OKS linija za prinos klipa kukuruza šećerca utvrđena je samo kod linije L4, koja se pokazala i kao dobar kombinator u hibridnim kombinacijama sa visokim vrednostima PKS. U slučaju randmana zrna visokoznačajne vrednosti OKS utvrđene su za linije L1 i L2, koje su takođe bile komponente hibrida sa visokoznačajnim vrednostima PKS. Koeficijentom korelacije ranga utvrđena je visokoznačajna vrednost (0,58**) između prinosa klipa i randmana zrna kukuruza šećerca, što ukazuje na srednje jaku zavisnost između ova dva svojstva i činjenicu da posmatrani genotipovi kukuruza šećerca koji se odlikuju visokim prinosom imaju i veći randman zrna i obratno.

For shelling percentage, significant GCA estimates were observed for L1 and L2, and these inbreds were also components of hybrids with significant SCA estimates. The correlation between ear yield and shelling percentage was highly significant (0.58**) among observed genotypes, showing a positive, medium high correlation and pointing out to the fact that high yielding genotypes also have high shelling percentage and vice versa., U radu je metodom dialelnog ukrštanja (6x6) proučavan način nasleđivanja i kombinacione sposobnosti šest samooplodnih linija kukuruza šećerca (L1-L6) za svojstva prinos klipa kukuruza i randman zrna. Analizom varijanse kombinacionih sposobnosti utvrđena je visoka značajnost vrednosti opštih (OKS) i posebnih kombinacionih sposobnosti (PKS) za oba svojstva. Presudan uticaj neaditivnog delovanja gena utvrđen je za nasleđivanje prinosa klipa, dok je za randman zrna aditivno delovanje gena bilo značajnije. Značajna vrednost OKS linija za prinos klipa kukuruza šećerca utvrđena je samo kod linije L4, koja se pokazala i kao dobar kombinator u hibridnim kombinacijama sa visokim vrednostima PKS. U slučaju randmana zrna visokoznačajne vrednosti OKS utvrđene su za linije L1 i L2, koje su takođe bile komponente hibrida sa visokoznačajnim vrednostima PKS. Koeficijentom korelacije ranga utvrđena je visokoznačajna vrednost (0,58**) između prinosa klipa i randmana zrna kukuruza šećerca, što ukazuje na srednje jaku zavisnost između ova dva svojstva i činjenicu da posmatrani genotipovi kukuruza šećerca koji se odlikuju visokim prinosom imaju i veći randman zrna i obratno.",

AB  - This study conforms the hypothesis that there are elite maize inbred lines with erect top leaves that have a property of an efficient photosynthetic model and that as such are successfully used in the processes of breeding in which the number of plants is increased per area unit (plant density). This proof was established by the application of non- invasive photosynthetic-fluorescence method suitable for the evaluation of the efficiency of the photosynthetic model. The obtained photosynthetic and fluorescence properties of observed prestigious maize inbred lines with the erect top leaves are based on the effects and the nature of changes in chlorophyll fluorescence occurring in their thylakoid membranes. Their principal parameters are temperature dependence of the chlorophyll delayed fluorescence intensity, the Arrhenius plot for the determination of the phase transition in thylakoid membranes and the estimated activation energies. The displayed results on the size of an angle between the direction of the propagation of the above-ear leaf and the direction of the stalk propagation, as well as, results on the dynamics of grain dry-down during the maturation period, additionally indicate that traits of observed maize inbred lines with erect top leaves are the prominent base for more exact, rational and faster proceeding of current processes of breeding.
AB  - Proučavane su tri prestižne inbred linije kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova: ZPPL 16, ZPPL 218, ZPPL 62. Ove linije su, bilo kao majka, bilo kao otac uključene u stvaranju više od 45 hibrida kukuruza. Međutim, u ovom srednjeročnom periodu, široku komercijalnu primenu ima više od deset hibrida kukuruza: ZP-341, ZP-360, ZP-434, ZP-578, ZP-606, ZP-677, ZP-684 i drugi.Ovim radom potvrđena je hipoteza da elitne inbred linije kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova imaju svojstvo efikasnog fotosintetičnog modela i da se, kao takve, u procesu oplemenjivanja uspešno koriste pri povećavanju broja biljaka na jedinici površine (gustina biljaka). Ovaj dokaz ostvaren je uz primenu neinvazivnog fotosintetično-fluorescentnog metoda pogodnog za ocenu efikasnosti foto modela. Dobijene fotosintetične karakteristike proučavanih prestižnih inbred linija kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova zasnovane su na efektima i prirodi promena zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila koje se odigravaju u njihovim tilakoidnim membranama. Njihovi glavni pokazatelji su temperaturna zavisnost intenziteta zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila, Arrhenijusov kriterijum za utvrđivanje faznih prelaza u tilakoidnim membranama i energije aktivacije. Izloženi rezultati o veličini ugla između pravca prostiranja prvog lista iznad klipa i pravca prostiranja stabljike, kao i rezultati o dinamici otpuštanja vode iz zrna u periodu njegovog sazrevanja dodatno pokazuju da su svojstva proučavanih inbred linija kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova prestižna osnova za egzaktija, racionalnija i brža odvijanja savremenih procesa oplemenjivanja.

AB  - The following three prestigious maize inbred lines with erect top leaves: ZPPL 16, ZPPL 218 and ZPPL 62 were observed in this study. Each of these inbreds, either as a female or a male component, was included into the development of over 45 maize hybrids. However, maize hybrids ZP 431, ZP 434, ZP 578 and ZP 684 are widely commercially used in this medium-term period. This study conforms the hypothesis that there are elite maize inbred lines with erect top leaves and hybrids derived from them that have a dominant property of an efficient photosynthetic-fluorescence model that is successfully used in breeding and production technologies of hybrid seed and commercial maize. The presented results on the position of top leaves, increased density, dynamics of grain dry down, quality of hybrid and commercial maize and on photosynthetic and fluorescence parameters: temperature dependence on the chlorophyll delayed fluorescence intensity, Arrhenius plot for the determination of critical temperatures (phase transition temperatures) and activation energies, show that the properties of observed inbred lines and their maize hybrids are based on positive effects and the nature of structural and functional changes that occur in their thylakoid membranes and other chemical structures of grain and leaf tissues. Furthermore, other relevant breeding and seed production properties of observed prestigious maize inbred lines and hybrids derived from them were analyzed (dependence of yields on densities and quality of commercial maize on the structure of grain and physical and chemical properties).
AB  - U ovom radu potvrđuje se naša hipoteza da postoje elitne samooplodne linije i sa njima stvoreni hibridi kukuruza, sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova, koje poseduju dominantno svojstvo efikasnog fotosintetično-fluorescentnog modela što se uspešno koristi u oplemenjivanju, savremenim tehnologijama proizvodnje hibridnog semena i merkatilnog kukuruza. Izloženi rezultati o uspravnom položaju vršnih listova, povećanoj gustini, dinamici otpuštanja vode iz zrna u periodu sazrevanja, kvalitetu semena hibridnog i merkantilnog kukuruza i o fotosintetično-fluorescentnim pokazateljima: temperaturnoj zavisnosti intenziteta zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila, Arenijusovom kriterijumu za određivanje kritičnih temperatura (temperature faznih prelaza) i energija aktivacije, pokazuju da su svojstva proučavanih linija i njihovih hibrida kukuruza zasnovana na pozitivnim efektima i prirodi strukturnih i funkcionalnih promena, koje se odigravaju u njihovim tilakoidnim membranama i drugim hemijskim strukturama tkiva zrna i lista. AB  - Popping volume and yield are traits caused by several heredity factors. It is difficult to obtain superior genotypes for both traits but it is possible to develop genotypes with good popping volume and satisfactory yield. The hybrid ZPPL2 x ZPPL5 was superior in yield, heterosis and SCA for both yield and popping volume. As inbred ZPPL4 in all combinations has a good value for popping volume could be concluded that this inbred may be used as parent in further crosses. Analysis of variance of the combining ability indicating significant SCA effect for grain yield, and significant both GCA and SCA effects for popping volume. Therefore it can be stated that yield is influenced by non-additive and popping volume by both additive and non- additive gene effects. Analysis of variance of genetic components for popping volume indicates that the additive as well as dominant components significantly affected the inheritance of this trait in popcorn. The objective of this study was to evaluate heteorsis and combing ability for grain yield and popping volume in dialalel set of six maize inbred lines.
AB  - Zapremina kokičavosti i prinos su svojstva pod uticajem nekoliko naslednih faktora. Teško je dobiti superiorne genotipove za oba svojstva ali je moguće dobiti genotip sa dobrom zapreminom kokičavosti i zadovoljavajućim prinosom. Hibrid ZPPL2 x ZPPL5 je superioran za prinos, heterozis i PKS za prinos i zapreminu kokičavosti. Kako linija ZPPL4 u svim kombinacijama ima dobre vrednosti za zapreminu kokičavosti može se zaključiti da ova linija se može koristiti kao roditelj u budućim ukrštanjima. Analiza varijanse za kombinacionu sposobnost ukazuje na značajan PKS efekat za prinos zrna, značajan PKS i OKS efekat za zapreminu kokičavosti. Prinos je pod uticajem neaditivnih a zapremina kokičavosti i aditivnih i neaditivnih gena. Analiza varijanse genetičkih komponenti za zapreminu kokičavosti ukazuje da aditivne kao i dominatne komponente značajno utiču na nasleđivanje ovog svojstva kod kokičara. Cilj ovih istraživanja bio je ispitivanje heteorzisa i kombinacionih sposobnosti za prinos zrna i zapreminu kokičavosti u dialelnom setu šest linija kukuruza.

Therefore it can be stated that yield is influenced by non-additive and popping volume by both additive and non- additive gene effects. Analysis of variance of genetic components for popping volume indicates that the additive as well as dominant components significantly affected the inheritance of this trait in popcorn. The objective of this study was to evaluate heteorsis and combing ability for grain yield and popping volume in dialalel set of six maize inbred lines., Zapremina kokičavosti i prinos su svojstva pod uticajem nekoliko naslednih faktora. Teško je dobiti superiorne genotipove za oba svojstva ali je moguće dobiti genotip sa dobrom zapreminom kokičavosti i zadovoljavajućim prinosom. Hibrid ZPPL2 x ZPPL5 je superioran za prinos, heterozis i PKS za prinos i zapreminu kokičavosti. Kako linija ZPPL4 u svim kombinacijama ima dobre vrednosti za zapreminu kokičavosti može se zaključiti da ova linija se može koristiti kao roditelj u budućim ukrštanjima. Analiza varijanse za kombinacionu sposobnost ukazuje na značajan PKS efekat za prinos zrna, značajan PKS i OKS efekat za zapreminu kokičavosti. Prinos je pod uticajem neaditivnih a zapremina kokičavosti i aditivnih i neaditivnih gena. Analiza varijanse genetičkih komponenti za zapreminu kokičavosti ukazuje da aditivne kao i dominatne komponente značajno utiču na nasleđivanje ovog svojstva kod kokičara. Cilj ovih istraživanja bio je ispitivanje heteorzisa i kombinacionih sposobnosti za prinos zrna i zapreminu kokičavosti u dialelnom setu šest linija kukuruza.",
