Optimization of anthocyanins extraction process from black soybean seed coat for the preparation of maize-based functional food

AB  - Black  soybean  seed  coat  has  a  considerable  content  of  anthocyanins  which  can  providea  positive  effect  on  the  health  of  the  consumers through food products enriched with the extracts of these valuable bioactive compounds. Nevertheless, the use of soybean seed  coat,  a  by-product  from  soybean  processing,  additionally  valorizes  this  raw  material.The  possibility  of  enrichment  of  sweet maize  grains  with  anthocyanin  extract  was  investigated.  Several  procedures  with  acetic  acid  were  applied  in  the  experiments  of  anthocyanins  extraction  from  black  soybean  seed  coat.  During  the  marination  process,  the  grains  were  stained,  changing  their  standard yellow color to a crimson red. Since the brines with the addition of citric acid became cloudy (opalescent) after some time, lactic  acid  was  used  as  an  anthocyanin  stabilizer  in  the  continuation  of  the  research.  Depending  on  the  extraction  conditions,  the spectrophotometrically determined content of total anthocyanins in the solution varied from 3541.90 to 5387.70 μg CGE/g d.m., and in the marinated maize grain between 179.89 and 286.05 μg CGE/g d.m. After seven days, the total anthocyanin content in the grain did not increase significantly, so this aging period was selected as optimal for marinating maize products.
AB  - Semenjača  crne  soje  ima  značajan  sadržaj  antocijana,  koji  mogu  pozitivno  uticati  na  zdravlje  potrošača  kroz  prehrambene  proizvode  obogaćene  ekstraktima  ovih  vrednih  bioaktivnih  jedinjenja.  Istovremeno,  upotrebom  sojine  semenjače,  sporednog  proizvoda prerade soje, dodatno se valorizuje ova sirovinu. Ispitivana je mogućnost obogaćivanja zrna kukuruza šećerca ekstraktom antocijana.  U  eksperimentima  ekstrakcije  antocijana  iz  semenjače  crne  soje  primenjeno  je  nekoliko  postupaka  sa  sirćetnom kiselinom.  Tokom  procesa  mariniranja,  zrna  su  promenila  boju,  menjajući  standardnu  žutu  boju  u  tamnocrvenu.  S  obzirom  da  su  posle izvesnog vremena nalivi za mariniranje sa dodatkom limunske kiseline postali zamućeni (opalescentni), u nastavku istraživanja je  korišćena  mlečna  kiselina  kao  stabilizator  antocijana.  U  zavisnosti  od  uslova  ekstrakcije,  spektrofotometrijski  utvrđen  sadržaj  ukupnih  antocijana  u  rastvoru  varirao  je  od  3541,90  do  5387,70  mg  CGE/g  d.m.,  a  u  zrnu  mariniranog  kukuruza  između  179,89  i  286,05  mg  CGE/g.  Posle  sedam  dana,  ukupan  sadržaj  antocijana  u  zrnu  nije  značajno  povećan,  pa  je  ovaj  period  odležavanja  izabran kao optimalan za mariniranje proizvoda od kukuruza.

The variability and interdependence of basic technological quality parameters of maize hybrids in long-term research

AB  - In the process of hybrid maize breeding, the greatest attention is directed towards increasing the level and stability of the yield, while grain quality is of secondary importance. The very
principles of hybrid breeding, as well as the economic aspects and competition between different breeding companies, have led to an enormous narrowing of the genetic basis of commercial
maize hybrids. Concurrently, there is usually a small number of often related hybrids of similar
technological and nutritional quality present on the market. Six best-selling ZP maize hybrids
in the previous ten years were chosen as the subject of this study. In the period from 2009-2018,
both the yield components and parameters of technological and nutritional quality of the grain
were studied. It was found that the examined parameters varied a lot in different years of production and that some parameters were more influenced by genotype (number of kernel rows per ear,
portion of pericarp, and crude fiber content) while others were more influenced by the environment (kernel weight per ear, total protein, starch, and oil content, respectively). The amount and
the distribution of precipitation during the vegetative period affected not only the yield components i.e. grain yield but also the technological qualitz parametres and nutritional properties of
the grain. Based on the observed parental components, it is evident that they are related hybrids
that, despite the high genotype by environment interactions, consequently have similar parameters of technological quality and nutritional composition. The imperative is to develop special
breeding programs aiming to create both the starting material and parental components to provide hybrids of improved technological quality and nutritional properties on the market. In that
way, the needs of the processing industry for raw materials of certain characteristics can be met.
AB  - U procesu hibridnog oplemenjivanja kukuruza, najviše pažnje se posvećuje povećanju nivoa
i stabilnosti prinosa, dok je kvalitet zrna od sekundarnog značaja. Sami principi hibridnog oplemenjivanja, kao i ekonomski aspekti i konkurencija između različitih oplemenjivačkih kuća,
doveli su do enormnog suženja genetičke osnove komercijalnih hibrida kukuruza. Na tržištu je
istovremeno najčešće prisutan mali broj, često srodnih hibrida sličnog tehnološkog i nutritivnog
kvaliteta. Za ovo istraživanje je odabrano šest ZP hibrida kukuruza najprodavanijih u prethodnih
deset godina. U periodu od 2009-2018. godine, praćene su, kako komponente prinosa, tako i
parametri tehnološkog i nutritivnog kvaliteta zrna. Utvrđeno je da su ispitivani parametri veoma
varirali u različitim godinama gajenja, kao i da su neki parametri bili pod većim uticajem genotipa (broj redova zrna, udeo perikarpa i sirove celuloze), a neki pod većim uticajem spoljašnje sredine (masa zrna po klipu, udeo ukupnih proteina, skroba i ulja, respektivno). Količina i raspored
padavina u toku vegetativnog perioda su uticali ne samo na komponente prinosa, odnosno na
prinos zrna, već i na parametre tehnološkog kvaliteta i nutritivna svojstva. Na osnovu posmatranih roditeljskih komponenata, evidentno je da se radi o srodnim hibridima koji, bez obzira na
visoke interakcije između genotipa i spoljašnje sredine, posledično imaju slične parametre tehnološkog kvaliteta kao i nutritivni sastav. Neophodno je razvijati posebne oplemenjivačke programe
koji imaju za cilj stvaranje kako početnog materijala, tako i roditeljskih komponenata, kako bi
se na tržištu obezbedili hibridi poboljšanog tehnološkog kvaliteta i nutritivnih svojstava i na taj
način zadovoljile potrebe prerađivačke industrije za sirovinama određenih karakteristika.

Monitoring of seed counter in 1000 seed weight testing

AB  - Accuracy and random selection of seeds when testing the 1000 seeds weight in the laboratory is of great importance in order to ensure the representativeness of the sample and precise information for further packaging process. The aim of this research was to check whether the laboratory seed counter selects seeds by shape and size and whether there is a trend during operation at maximum and reduced speed. Ten species of different seed sizes were used. Ten replicates of 100 seeds were counted by counter, the number of seeds was manually checked and the weight measured. The analysis of the obtained results showed that the counter is precise, but weight results showed selection of smaller seeds (Capsicum annuum and Glycine max) at maximum counting speed. Trend of larger seed selection was observed in Medicago sativa and pelleted Beta vulgaris. Slower counting (50% of the maximum speed), is ensured precise counting without trends.
AB  - Praćenje i kontrola rada laboratorijske opreme je jedan od zahteva akreditacionih standarda za laboratorije za ispitivanje
semena. U dosadašnjoj praksi nije se obraćala pažnja da li prilikom rada brojača dolazi do selektivnog izbora semena koje se broji.
Preciznost i slučajan izbor semena kod ispitivanja mase 1000 semena u laboratoriji je od velike važnosti kako bi se obezbedila
reprezentativnost uzorka. Cilj ovog istraživanja je provera da li laboratorijski brojač semena u toku svog rada, pri maksimalnoj i
smanjenoj brzini selektuje seme po obliku i veličini i da li postoji trend. U radu je ispitivano 10 vrsta različite krupno će semena
(Capsicum annuum, peletirano seme Beta vulgaris, Brassica napus, Medicago sativa, Raphanus sativus, Sinapis alba, Triticum
aestivum, Helianthus annuus, Glycine max i Zea mays). Analizom dobijenih rezultata utvrđeno je da brojač precizno broji. Na osnovu
rezultata izmerene mase uočeno je da se na maksimalnoj brzini brojanja pojavljuje trend selektovanja prvo sitnijeg, a zatim krupnijeg
semena kod vrsta Capsicum annuum i Glycine max. Nasuprot tome, kod semena Medicago sativa i peletiranog semena Beta vulgaris,
uočen je trend selektovanja semena od krupnijeg ka sitnijem. Prilikom sporijeg brojanja (50% od maksimalne brzine), postiže se
slučajan odabir semena tj. ne pojavljuje se trend prilikom rada brojača, kod gore navedenih vrsta semena. Za ostale vrste nije uočen
trend postepenog smanjenja niti pove ćanja vrednosti mase u okviru ispitivanih 10 ponavljanja. Rezultati ovih analiza ukazuju na
važnost provere opreme kako u smislu tačnosti brojanja tako i selektovanja semena u cilju dobijanja tačnih rezultata ispitivanja mase
1000 semena.

abstract = "Accuracy and random selection of seeds when testing the 1000 seeds weight in the laboratory is of great importance in order to ensure the representativeness of the sample and precise information for further packaging process. The aim of this research was to check whether the laboratory seed counter selects seeds by shape and size and whether there is a trend during operation at maximum and reduced speed. Ten species of different seed sizes were used. Ten replicates of 100 seeds were counted by counter, the number of seeds was manually checked and the weight measured. The analysis of the obtained results showed that the counter is precise, but weight results showed selection of smaller seeds (Capsicum annuum and Glycine max) at maximum counting speed. Trend of larger seed selection was observed in Medicago sativa and pelleted Beta vulgaris. Slower counting (50% of the maximum speed), is ensured precise counting without trends., Praćenje i kontrola rada laboratorijske opreme je jedan od zahteva akreditacionih standarda za laboratorije za ispitivanje
semena. U dosadašnjoj praksi nije se obraćala pažnja da li prilikom rada brojača dolazi do selektivnog izbora semena koje se broji.
Preciznost i slučajan izbor semena kod ispitivanja mase 1000 semena u laboratoriji je od velike važnosti kako bi se obezbedila
reprezentativnost uzorka. Cilj ovog istraživanja je provera da li laboratorijski brojač semena u toku svog rada, pri maksimalnoj i
smanjenoj brzini selektuje seme po obliku i veličini i da li postoji trend. U radu je ispitivano 10 vrsta različite krupno će semena
(Capsicum annuum, peletirano seme Beta vulgaris, Brassica napus, Medicago sativa, Raphanus sativus, Sinapis alba, Triticum
aestivum, Helianthus annuus, Glycine max i Zea mays). Analizom dobijenih rezultata utvrđeno je da brojač precizno broji. Na osnovu
rezultata izmerene mase uočeno je da se na maksimalnoj brzini brojanja pojavljuje trend selektovanja prvo sitnijeg, a zatim krupnijeg
semena kod vrsta Capsicum annuum i Glycine max. Nasuprot tome, kod semena Medicago sativa i peletiranog semena Beta vulgaris,
uočen je trend selektovanja semena od krupnijeg ka sitnijem. Prilikom sporijeg brojanja (50% od maksimalne brzine), postiže se
slučajan odabir semena tj. ne pojavljuje se trend prilikom rada brojača, kod gore navedenih vrsta semena. Za ostale vrste nije uočen
trend postepenog smanjenja niti pove ćanja vrednosti mase u okviru ispitivanih 10 ponavljanja. Rezultati ovih analiza ukazuju na
važnost provere opreme kako u smislu tačnosti brojanja tako i selektovanja semena u cilju dobijanja tačnih rezultata ispitivanja mase
1000 semena.",

Nutritive quality and plant digestibility of silage maize hybrids from Serbia

AB  - The quality of five silage maize hybrids grown
in 2020 at five different locations in Serbia (two in
the northern province of Vojvodina (Srem) and three
in Central Serbia) was tested in 2021 in the laboratory
of the Department of Food Technology and
Biochemistry of the Maize Research Institute “Zemun
Polje“. The dry matter content, lignocellulose
fiber content, and in vitro dry matter digestibility
(IVDMD) of of the whole plant maize hybrids: ZP
707, ZP 7357, ZP 790, ZP 8701, and ZP 873 were
investigated. The 7001 hybrid was used as a standard.
The average dry matter content varied between
37.77±1.88% (ZP 790) and 42.64±7.19% (ZP
707), while in vitro dry matter digestibility ranged
from 58.77±1.96% (ZP 8701) to 63.77±2.09% (ZP
707). The share, as well as the type of the plant
cell wall components – lignocellulosic fibers, determines
the nutritional quality of silage maize
as animal feed. The NDF content ranged from As
the NDF content increases with maize maturity,
animals show a tendency for lower silage intake.
However, although in some cases NDF can be considered
a negative indicator of silage quality, NDF
is a necessary component of ruminant nutrition.
Based on the achieved results, it can be concluded
that hybrids ZP 707 and ZP 7357 proved to be the
best silage maize forms. At most locations, these
hybrids achieved better results than the standard.
The ZP 707 hybrid on average had the highest dry
matter content, the highest digestibility of dry
matter, as well as the lowest content of all lignocellulosic
fibers, which all indicate its potential
as silage maize form. The lack of hybrids ZP 707
and ZP 7357 can be considered the fact that the
dry matter content of the whole plant showed to be
less stable in different agro-ecological conditions.In terms of digestibility and dry matter content,
the ZP 790 hybrid can be singled out as the most
stable. The ZP 790 hybrid is less recommended for
Srem, but in Central Serbia, it could match the ZP
707 and ZP 7357 hybrids. ZP 8701 proved to be the
weakest hybrid at all locations, followed by ZP 873.
The in vitro digestibility and dry matter content
of the whole plant of the investigated hybrids were
far more stable in Srem than in Central Serbia.
These findings can be of great importance for future
breeding programs directed toward creating
new and improved silage maize hybrids.

AB  - The aim of the research was to evaluate the influence of the year and the seed lots on the most important indicators of cabbage
seed quality. Quality testing of nine different seed lots of Potomac F1 cabbage was performed during three years (2019, 2020 and
2021). Analyses of variance showed a significant effect (p<0.01) of the year (Y), while seed lot (L) and their interaction (Y × L)
showed a significant effect (p<0.05) on all observed parameters quality (germination energy, total germination, abnormal seedlings
and dead seeds). The strongest correlation between the examined parameters was in the first year and weakened in the second and
third years. In the first year as expected, significant positive correlation between germination energy and total germination was
found (r = 0.84779, p<0.01). The highly and negative interdependence was achieved between total germination and dead seeds (r = -
0.94363, p<0.001) and abnormal seedlings (r = -0.78019, p<0.05). Also negative interdependence was found between germination
energy and dead seeds (r = -0.80000, p<0.01) and abnormal seedlings (r = -0.66144, p<0.05). The germination energy and the total
germination of the cabbage seeds considered were found to decrease with the increasing seed age, in contrast to the numbers of their
abnormal seedlings and dead seeds which continued to increase with seed aging. The obtained results indicate that the germination
of highly hybrid conventional cabbage seeds decreases significantly during aging, as a direct consequence of a very significant
increase in the number of abnormal seedlings.
AB  - Cilj istraživanja je bio da se izvrši ocena uticaja godine i partije semena na najznačajnije pokazatelje kvaliteta semena kupusa.
Ispitivanje kvaliteta semena devet različitih partija kupusa Potomak F1, izvedena su tokom tri godine (2019, 2020 i 2021). Analiza
energije klijanja, ukupne klijavosti, nenormalnih klijanaca i mrtvog semena kupusa pokazala je visoko značajne razlike (р<0,01) pod
uticajem faktora godina (Y), dok je uticaj partija semena (L) i interakcija (Y × L) na ispitivane pokazatelje bio na nivou (р<0,05).
Najjače korelacije između ispitivanih parametara kvaliteta semena zabeležene su u prvoj godini i slabile su drugoj i trećoj godini. U
prvoj godini zabeležena je značajna korelacija (r = 0,84779, p<0,01) između energije klijanja i ukupne klijavosti, odnosno u drugoj
godini (r = 0,75057, p≤0,05), dok je u trećoj godini izostala. Visoka negativna međuzavisnost dobijena je između ukupne klijavosti i
mrtvog semena (r = -0,94363, p<0,001) i nenormalnih klijanaca (r = -0,78019, p<0,05). Takođe, negativna korelacija utvrđena je

se energija klijanja i ukupna klijavost ispitivanog semena kupusa smanjuju sa povećanjem starosti semena, za razliku od broja
nenormalnih klijanaca i mrtvog semena, koji rastu sa starenjem semena. Na osnovu dobijenih rezultata možemo konstatovati da se
ukupna klijavost visoko hibridnog konvencionalnog semena kupusa veoma zanačajno smanjuje tokom starenja, kao direktna
posledica veoma značajnog povećanja broja nenormalnih klijanaca.

AB  - The main goal of this study was to observe the properties of fifteen
different genotypes of maize hybrids from Serbia in order to determine their
suitability for the production of high-quality silage for ruminant feed. The research
was conducted in a two-year field experiment at the location of the Maize Research
Institute in Zemun Polje, Serbia, and the laboratory analyses included yield structure
of the investigated maize hybrids, assessment of the lignocellulosic fiber
composition, as well as the in vitro dry matter digestibility of the whole plant
samples. All maize hybrids have shown good quality traits that are a prerequisite for
the production of high-quality silage.

AB  - Widely consumed thermally processed corn-based foods can have a great contribution to acrylamide dietary intake,
thus bearing a high public health risk and requiring attention and application of strategies for its reduction. This paper reviews the

AB  - Maize (Zea mays L.) is one of the major crops of the world for feed, food, and
industrial uses. It was originated in Central America and introduced into Europe and
other continents after Columbus trips at the end of the 15th century. Due to the large
adaptability of maize, farmers have originated a wide variability of genetic resources
with wide diversity of adaptation, characteristics, and uses. Nowadays, in Europe,
maize is mainly used for feed, but several food specialties were originated during these
five centuries of maize history and became traditional food specialties. This review
summarizes the state of the art of traditional foodstuffs made with maize in Southern,
South-Western and South-Eastern Europe, from an historic evolution to the last research
activities that focus on improving sustainability, quality and safety of food production.

AB  - Cereal seeds safety may be compromised by the presence of toxic contaminants, such as aflatoxins.
Besides being carcinogenic, they have other adverse health effects on humans and animals. In
this preliminary study, we used two non‑invasive optical techniques, optical fiber fluorescence
spectroscopy and multispectral imaging (MSI), for discrimination of maize seeds naturally
contaminated with aflatoxin B 1 (AFB 1 ) from the uncontaminated seeds. The AFB 1‑contaminated
seeds exhibited a red shift of the emission maximum position compared to the control samples.
Using linear discrimination analysis to analyse fluorescence data, classification accuracy of 100%
was obtained to discriminate uncontaminated and AFB 1‑contaminated seeds. The MSI analysis
combined with a normalized canonical discriminant analysis, provided spectral and spatial patterns
of the analysed seeds. The AFB 1‑contaminated seeds showed a 7.9 to 9.6‑fold increase in the seed
reflectance in the VIS region, and 10.4 and 12.2‑fold increase in the NIR spectral region, compared
with the uncontaminated seeds. Thus the MSI method classified successfully contaminated from
uncontaminated seeds with high accuracy. The results may have an impact on development of
spectroscopic non‑invasive methods for detection of AFs presence in seeds, providing valuable
information for the assessment of seed adulteration in the field of food forensics and food safety.

AB  - The possibility of utilization of dried distillers’ grains with solubles (DDGS) in animal feed was investigated. Samples of maize
hybrids ZP 548 and ZP 655b, and DDGS obtained from hybrids ZP 548 and ZP 548c were used as components of the feed. The total
protein content ranged from 12.42% to 31.18%, moisture from 5.49% to 9.55, and ash content from 1.85% to 4.37%. The contents of
NDF, ADF, ADL, hemicellulose and cellulose fibers ranged from: 13.90% to 48.13%; 2.9% to 20.69%; 0.27% to 2.44%; 10.69% to
30.17%, 2.62% to 18.32%, respectively. In vitro, dry matter digestibility ranged from 55.20% to 89.76%. It was concluded that the
samples of DDG obtained from red and yellow maize hybrids kernel are very suitable as components for the preparation of animal
feed.
AB  - Ispitivana je mogućnost primene suve kukuruzne džibre u smešama za ishranu domaćih životinja. Kao komponente korišćeni su
uzorci cele biljke i zrna hibrida ZP 548 i ZP 655b i uzorci džibre dobijeni od hibrida ZP 548 i ZP 548c (hibrid crvenog zrna). Uzorci
kukuruzne džibre, sporednog produkta iz proizvodnje bioetanola, dobijeni su postupkom odvojene dvostepene hidrolize i fermentacije
skroba iz kukuruznog brašna. Metoda se zasniva na korišćenju enzimskih preparata u fazama hidrolize i primeni kvasca S. cerevisiae
var. ellipsoideus tokom fermentacije. Uzorci džibre sušeni su u ventilacionoj sušnici na temperaturi 60˚C u trajanju od 48h, a potom
samleveni u laboratorijskom mlinu. Sadržaj proteina kretao se od 12,42% do 31,18%, vlage od 5,49% do 9,55%, a pepela od 1,85%
do 4,37%. Sadržaj NDF-a kretao se od 13,90% (zrno ZP 548 + 15% džibre ZP 548) do 48,13% (cela biljka ZP 655b + 20% džibre

recipes with acetic acid were examined, of which two with the addition of potassium sorbate. The brines with preservatives were
stable for 16 months without colour changes of the liquid and corn cobs. The pH of brines ranged from 3.39 to 3.89. Canned hybrids
ZP 366 and ZP 611k in brine without sugar, and with the addition of potassium sorbate and potassium metabisulfite marked as
Number 5, showed the best sensory characteristics. The protein content determined in ZP 366 (9.56 %) and ZP 611k (10.23 %) did
not vary significantly compared to whole-grain maize flour, while crude fibre content (7.67 and 6.88 %), and ash content (21.96 and
20.72 %) were significantly higher than in flour (crude fibre: 2.40; 2.64 %, ash:1.35; 1.48 %, respectively). This research will be
continued in order to implement preliminary findings and new data on this subject

AB  - In this study, the content of Maillard reaction products from its initial, intermediate and final stage (5-
hydroxymethylfurfural, α-dicarbonyl compounds, furosine, N-ε-carboxymethyllysine and N-ε-carboxyethyllysine)
was measured in sweet cookies made of wholegrain flour of eight genotypes of small-grain cereals
(bread wheat, durum wheat, soft wheat, hard wheat, triticale, rye, hulless barley and hulless oat) and four corn
genotypes (white-, yellow- and red-colored standard seeded corn and blue-colored popping corn). Furthermore, 
the effect of the initial content of sugars, total proteins, free and total lysine in flour on the formation of Maillard
reaction products was investigated using the principle component analysis. 3-deoxyglucosone was the predominant
α-dicarbonyl compound in all cereal cookies and the highest content was measured in those made from
flour of different colored corn genotypes (on average, 98.35, 151.28 and 172.85 mg/kg after baking for 7, 10 and
13 min, respectively). Heating dough at 180 ◦C for 7, 10 and 13 min differently affected the content of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural
and α-dicarbonyl compounds in the cereal cookies. The 5-hydroxymethylfurfural content
gradually increased, while a reduction in 3-deoxyglucosone content was observed in the cookies baked for 13
min except for those made from soft wheat, hulless oat, red- and blue-colored corn. After 7 min of heating, the
content of furosine measured in the cereal cookies reached its maximum (from 320.9 mg/kg in yellow-colored
corn-based cookies to 585.7 mg/kg in hulless oat-based cookies), while N-ε-carboxymethyllysine and N-ε-carboxyethyllysine
showed the opposite trend. The highest content of advanced glycation end products was detected
in cookies also made from hulless oat flour rich in proteins (16.80%) and total lysine (10670.3 mg/kg). The
interrelationship analysis showed that the initial content of sugars in flour of cereals affected 5-hydroxymethylfurfural
and 3-deoxyglucosone formation in the cookies. In addition, a high correlation between protein-bound

Grain properties of yellow and red kernel maize hybrids from Serbia

AB  - Physical traits, kernel structure and chemical composition of five yellow and five red kernel maize hybrids were the subjects of this study. The 1000-kernel weight, a physical indicator of grain quality, ranged from 325.76±7.47 g (ZP 555 red) to 375.63±4.18 g (ZP 606). The
hard endosperm fraction content varied between 57.66±0.93% (ZP 4007) and 67.08±0.42% (ZP
366 red). Regarding chemical composition, starch was predominant constituent ranging from
66.80±0.18 (ZP 4007 red) to 72.96±0.37 (ZP 606). The highest protein content was detected in
ZP 606 (10.72±0.11) and the lowest in ZP 7007 red hybrid (8.63±0.04%). Milling response was
highly influenced by hard endosperm fraction content (0.81**), and starch content was strongly
correlated to 1000-kernel weight (0.77**). Whole-grain maize flours produced from yellow and
red kernels without removing the germ are naturally gluten-free and can be used as functional
food ingredients. All yellow and red kernel maize hybrids investigated in this study showed good
quality parameters regarding physical properties and variations in chemical composition which
makes them suitable for different industrial uses, primarily for food and feed production.
AB  - Fizičke karakteristike, struktura zrna i hemijski sastav pet hibrida kukuruza žutog i pet crvenog zrna, bili su predmet ovog istraživanja. Masa 1000 zrna, važan fizički pokazatelj kvaliteta
zrna, kretala se u rasponu od 325,76±7,47 g (ZP 555 crveni) do 375,63±4,18 g (ZP 606). Sadržaj
tvrde frakcije endosperma bio je od 57,66±0,93% (ZP 4007) do 67,08±0,42% (ZP 366 crveni), a
meke od 32,92 ± 0,43% (ZP 366 crveni) do 42,34 ± 0,93% (ZP 4007). Skrob, kao najzastupljenija hemijska komponenta, varirao je od 66,80±0,18 (ZP 4007 crveni) do 72,96±0,37 (ZP 606).
Najviši udeo proteina određen je u zrnu hibrida ZP 606 (10,72±0,11%), a najniži u ZP 7007
(8,63 ± 0,04%). Otpornost na mlevenje bila je u visokoj pozitivnoj korelaciji sa udelom tvrdog
endosperma (0.81**), a sadržaj skroba sa hektolitarskom masom (0,77**). Integralna kukuruzna
brašna, dobijena mlevenjem celog zrna žutih i crvenih hibrida, su prirodno bezglutenska i mogu
se koristiti kao sastojci funkcionalne hrane. Svi hibridi kukuruza žutog i crvenog zrna ispitivani u
ovom istraživanju pokazali su dobre parametre kvaliteta u pogledu fizičkih svojstava i varijacija u
hemijskom sastavu što ih čini pogodnim za različite industrijske namene, prvenstveno za proizvodnju hrane za ljude i životinje.

The role of maize hybrids in current trends of bioethanol production

AB  - Bioethanol is a biofuel that is mostly used as a replacement for fossil fuels worldwide with
yearly production reaching nearly 110 billion liters in 2019. Trends of producing this alternative
fuel are rising and maize is considered as one of the best renewable raw materials for the production of fuel ethanol due to the high content of starch in the grain. Taking into account that
Serbia is one of the most prominent maize producers in Europe, the surpluses of this crop could
be directed toward bioethanol production. Even though there is no organized production and
consumption of bioethanol as an automotive fuel in Serbia, the Serbian Government has recently
introduced some new regulations regarding biofuels. However, due to the reduction of economic
activities since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the global demand for crude oil has
fallen sharply, negatively affecting the gasoline demand, and thus bioethanol, which makes the
future of this alternative fuel production notably uncertain.
AB  - Bioetanol je biogorivo koje se uglavnom koristi kao zamena za fosilna goriva širom sveta,
a godišnja proizvodnja dostigla je gotovo 110 milijardi litara u 2019. godini. Trendovi proizvodnje ovog alternativnog goriva rastu, a kukuruz se smatra jednom od najboljih obnovljivih
sirovina za proizvodnju bioetanola zahvaljujući visokom sadržaju skroba u zrnu. Uzimajući u
obzir da je Srbija jedan od najistaknutijih proizvođača kukuruza u Evropi, viškovi useva ove
poljoprivredne kulture mogli bi se usmeriti ka proizvodnji bioetanola. Iako u Srbiji ne postoji
organizovana proizvodnja i potrošnja bioetanola kao transportnog goriva, Vlada Republike Srbije nedavno je usvojila nekoliko novih uredbi u vezi sa stavljanjem u promet, obeležavanjem i
potrošnjom biogoriva. Međutim, zbog smanjenja ekonomskih aktivnosti od početka pandemije
virusa COVID-19 tokom 2020. godine, globalna potražnja za sirovom naftom naglo je opala, što
je negativno uticalo na potražnju za benzinom, a time i za bioetanolom, zbog čega je budućnost
proizvodnje ovog alternativnog goriva za sada u velikoj meri neizvesna.

AB  - Crop rotation is a simple and effective part of an Integrated Weed Management (IWM) system. This approach makes it possible to rotate herbicides with different modes of action (MOA), avoiding or postponing herbicide resistance. Besides all the known advantages and benefits, it is still not widely used in maize (Zea mays L.) production. In Serbia, about 20% of total maize production is a continuous cropping. The aim of this research was to test the benefits of growing maize in crop rotation with winter wheat (Triticum vulgare L.) compared with a continuous cropping, combined with pre-emergence herbicide application. Field trials started in 2009, and five maize-winter wheat rotations have been completed. Weeds were controlled with a herbicide mixture of isoxaflutole and S-metolachlor, applied at either the full label rate or half rate, while one plot was kept weed free (manually), and one was a control. Integrating crop rotation and PRE herbicides decreased the biomass of weeds and their density by 98% and 99%, respectively. In continuous maize, perennial weeds became dominant after the first rotation. Crop rotation significantly influenced maize productive parameters, decreasing the variation in leaf area index and grain yield, increasing values with the number of cycles. The biggest differences in the analyzed parameters were observed in 2015, 2017 and 2019, indicating many positive long-term benefits of crop rotation on maize leaf area index and grain yield.

Integrating crop rotation and PRE herbicides decreased the biomass of weeds and their density by 98% and 99%, respectively. In continuous maize, perennial weeds became dominant after the first rotation. Crop rotation significantly influenced maize productive parameters, decreasing the variation in leaf area index and grain yield, increasing values with the number of cycles. The biggest differences in the analyzed parameters were observed in 2015, 2017 and 2019, indicating many positive long-term benefits of crop rotation on maize leaf area index and grain yield.",

AB  - The research in this paper deals with the prices of the most important industrial

was 2.13%. The average annual price of sugarbeet was 31.60 EUR/t. The price 
ranged between 24.36 and 40.31 EUR/t. The annual change rate of sugar beet price 
was 1.85 %. The average annual price of rapeseed was 299.58 EUR/t. The price 
ranged between 145 and 447 EUR/t. The annual change rate was 5.84%. The 
average annual price of tobacco was 1,749 EUR/t. The price ranged between 1,068 
and 2,159 EUR/t. The annual change rate of tobacco price in Serbia was 
3.90%.The predictions show that the expected prices for the industrial crops in 
2024 in Serbia will be as follows: soybean 337, sunflower 266, sugar beet 35.33, 
rapeseed 425 and tobacco 2,208 EUR/t

AB  - Red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) and Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum L.) are in the
conditions of Serbia, according to many researches and experiences from practice, the most
productive and highest quality grass-leguminous mixture for fodder production on more fertile
soils. Both species can be sown as pure crops. But sowing and growing in a mixture is better
because of the well-known benefits of growing legumes (which are nitrogen fixers) and grasses
(which have a pronounced need for nitrogen). Studies have shown that these species grown in a
mixture also have a positive effect on soil biogenicity. They also have a positive effect on the
reduction of weeds in relation to the cultivation of these fodder plants in pure culture.
The initial crop density in all plants, especially dense plants, is achieved by the amount of
germinating seeds in the establishment. For sowing in a mixture, the ratio between the number of
leguminous plants and grasses is important for achieving the desired ratio in the mixture (legumes:
grass).. The ratio in the mixture determines the yield and quality of the feed. Namely, it is generally
known that the legume component is of better quality and that the grass component is more
productive. There is no doubt that seed germination is the most important indicator of seed quality.
And the goal is to maintain high quality seed germination for as long as possible during the seed
storage period. But it is also a reality that the seed achieves maximum germination quality during
storage and then follows the period of seed aging, which inevitably leads to a decrease in
germination, which is different for each species. Of course, the ambient conditions in which the
seeds are stored are also of great importance for preserving germination.
The aim of these tests was to examine the quality of seeds during five years of storage through
indicators: germination energy and total germination. The seeds of four varieties of red dateline
were used in the experiment: K-17, Viola, Kolubara, Sana and Italian ryegrass, three varieties: K13, Aubade, Draga, K-39 and one populations: P1.
Seeds of the red dateline variety after five years retained an average germination of 64%, with a
variation depending on the variety of 20% (Nike 55%, Una 75%). And with pronounced variability
expressed through a coefficient of variation of CV = 14.1%. Seeds of the Italian ryegrass variety also maintained an average germination of 70% after five years, with a variation depending on the variety of 13% (Aubade 67%, K-13 80%). And with pronounced variability expressed through a coefficient of variation of CV = 8.12%.
AB  - Crvena detelina (Trifolium pratense L.) i italijanski ljulj (Lolium multiflorum L.) su u uslovima
Srbije po mnogim istraživanjima i iskustvima iz prakse najproduktivnija i najkvalitetnija travaleguminozna smeša za proizvodnju krme na plodnijim zemljištima.Obe vrste mogu se sejati kao
čisti usevi. Ali je setva i gajenje u smeši bolja zbog dobro poznatih benefita gajanja leguminoza,
(koje su azotofiksataori) i trava, (koje imaju izražene zahteve za azotom). Ispitivanja su pokazala da
ove vrste gajene u smeši pozitivno utiču i na biogenost zemljišta. Takođe pozitivno utiču i na
smanjenje korova u odnosu na gajenje ovih krmnih biljka u čistoj kulturi.
Početna gustina useva se kod svih biljaka, a posebno gustorednih, postiže količinom klijavog
semena u zasnivanju. Za setvu u smeši udnos između broja biljaka leguminiza i trava je značajan za
ostvarenje željenog odnosa u smeši (leguminoza:trava). Odnos u smeši određuje prinos i kvalitet
krme. Naime opšte je poznato da je leguminozna komponenta kvalitetnija a da je travna
komponenta produktivnija. Ne sumljivo je da je klijavost semena najvažniji pokazatelj kvaliteta
semena. Te da je cilj da što je moguće duže se održi visok kvalitete semena-klijavost tokom perioda
čuvanja semen. Ali je i realnost da seme tokom čuvanja postiže maksimalni kvalitet-klijavosti a
zatim sledi perod starenja semena što neminovno vodi ka smanjenju klijavosti što je za svaku vrstu
različito. Naravno za očuvanje klijavosti od visog značaja su i anbijentalni uslovui u komjima je
seme čuvano.
Cilj ovih ispitavanja je bio da se tokom pet godina čuvanja ispita kvalitet semena preko pokazatelja:
energije klijanja i ukupne klijavosti. U ogledi je korišćeno seme četiri sorte crvene dateline : K-17,
Viola, Kolubara, Sana i italijanskog ljulja, tri sorte: K-13, Aubade, Draga, i jedna populacija P-1.
Seme sorte crvene dateline nakon pet godina zadržalo je prosečnu klijavost 64%, sa variranjem

Proizvodnja i dorada semenskog kukuruza u 2020.godini

AB  - U 2020. godini proizvodnja ZP hibrida zasnovana je na 1.422,65 ha. Najveći deo proizvodnje je 
ugovoren sa eksternim proizvođačima, dok je 20,3 ha bilo zasnovano na površinama Instituta ZP u 
Krnješevcima i Školskom dobru. Proizvodnja je zasnovana kod svih 12 eksternih proizvođača sa 
kojima je bila ugovorena i 2019. godine. 
Klimatski proizvodna sezona nije bila idealna za proizvodnju semenskog kukuruza. Iako tokom 
godine nije bilo dugačkih perioda sa visokim temperaturama, u kritičnim fazama je bilo nedovoljno 
padavina. U početnim fazama razvoja (od setve do nicanja) je u mnogim regionima zabeležena 
nedovoljna količina padavina. U severnoj Bačkoj je u tom periodu beskišan period potrajao do prve 
polovine maja. Tada su nastupile obilnije količine padavina, praćene nižim temperaturama nego što 
su uobičajene za taj period. Sve je to uticalo na slabije sklopove i neujednačeno nicanje. 
Svake godine se sve više pokazuje da je otežano kvalitetno uklanjanje metlica ukoliko se ne koriste 
samohodni sekači metlica (Kastriks), zato što je iz godine u godinu sve manje kvalitetne sezonske 
radne snage. To se naročito pokazalo u ovoj godini, na koju je dodatno uticala i globalna pandemija 
COVID-19. Svi eksterni proizvođači su ove godine u većoj ili manjoj meri koristili i Kastriks pri 
uklanjanju metlica. 
Biljne bolesti su ove godine imale izraženiji uticaj nego prethodnih godina, naročito u pojedinim 
regionima. U centralnoj Bačkoj na jednoj lokaciji je zabeleženo 8% obolelih biljaka od plamenjače 
kukuruza (Sclerophtora macrospora). U poslednjih 10 godina tako nešto nije zabeleženo u 
proizvodnji semenskog kukuruza. Sve obolele biljke su uklonjene iz useva u fazi intenzivnog 
porasta, a nakon toga je usev tretiran preparatom Krilt (1 l/ha). Intervencija je bila uspešna i 
ostvaren je prinos od 3,35 t/ha. U zapadnoj Bačkoj je na više lokaliteta bila primetna velika šteta 
uzrokovana mehurastom gari (Ustilago maydis). Procenat zaraženih klipova i vegetativnih delova 
biljaka je varirao između genotipova. Zadnjih nekoliko godina sve je veća pojava i treće generacije 
kukuruznog plamenca, ali s obzirom da svi proizvođači preventivno više puta tretiraju useve, nije 
zabeležena ni na jednoj izolaciji veća šteta.
Berba i sušenje semenskog kukuruza je obavljena u 7 doradnih centara. S obzirom da od septembra 
do početka oktobra gotovo da nije bilo padavina, berba je protekla bez većih zastoja. Prosečan 
prinos primarno dorađenog semena svih izolacija iznosio je 3,3 t/ha, dok je prosečna klijavost svih 
ispitanih partija semena 96,84%. Ukupno je proizvedeno 4.700 t primarno dorađenog semena.
AB  - In 2020, the production of ZP hybrids was based on 1,422.65 ha. The largest part of the production
was contracted with external producers, while 20.3 ha were based on the fields of the Maize
Research Institute in Krnješevci and Školsko dobro. Production was made with all 12 external
producers with which it was contracted in 2019.
By climate production season was not ideal for the production of maize seed. Although there were
no long periods with high temperatures during the year, there was insufficient rainfall in the critical
phases. In the initial stages of development (from sowing to germination), insufficient rainfall was
recorded in many regions. In northern Bačka, the dry period lasted until the first half of May. Then
there were more abundant amounts of precipitation, followed by lower temperatures than usual for
that period. All this affected lower plant dencity and uneven emergence.
Every year, it becomes more and more difficult to properly remove tassels if self propelled
detasseling machines (Castrix) are not used, because the quality of seasonal labor is decreasing year

padavina. U početnim fazama razvoja (od setve do nicanja) je u mnogim regionima zabeležena 
nedovoljna količina padavina. U severnoj Bačkoj je u tom periodu beskišan period potrajao do prve 
polovine maja. Tada su nastupile obilnije količine padavina, praćene nižim temperaturama nego što 
su uobičajene za taj period. Sve je to uticalo na slabije sklopove i neujednačeno nicanje. 
Svake godine se sve više pokazuje da je otežano kvalitetno uklanjanje metlica ukoliko se ne koriste 
samohodni sekači metlica (Kastriks), zato što je iz godine u godinu sve manje kvalitetne sezonske 
radne snage. To se naročito pokazalo u ovoj godini, na koju je dodatno uticala i globalna pandemija 
COVID-19. Svi eksterni proizvođači su ove godine u većoj ili manjoj meri koristili i Kastriks pri 
uklanjanju metlica. 
Biljne bolesti su ove godine imale izraženiji uticaj nego prethodnih godina, naročito u pojedinim 
regionima. U centralnoj Bačkoj na jednoj lokaciji je zabeleženo 8% obolelih biljaka od plamenjače 
kukuruza (Sclerophtora macrospora). U poslednjih 10 godina tako nešto nije zabeleženo u 
proizvodnji semenskog kukuruza. Sve obolele biljke su uklonjene iz useva u fazi intenzivnog 
porasta, a nakon toga je usev tretiran preparatom Krilt (1 l/ha). Intervencija je bila uspešna i 
ostvaren je prinos od 3,35 t/ha. U zapadnoj Bačkoj je na više lokaliteta bila primetna velika šteta 
uzrokovana mehurastom gari (Ustilago maydis). Procenat zaraženih klipova i vegetativnih delova 
biljaka je varirao između genotipova. Zadnjih nekoliko godina sve je veća pojava i treće generacije 
kukuruznog plamenca, ali s obzirom da svi proizvođači preventivno više puta tretiraju useve, nije 
zabeležena ni na jednoj izolaciji veća šteta.
Berba i sušenje semenskog kukuruza je obavljena u 7 doradnih centara. S obzirom da od septembra 
do početka oktobra gotovo da nije bilo padavina, berba je protekla bez većih zastoja. Prosečan 
prinos primarno dorađenog semena svih izolacija iznosio je 3,3 t/ha, dok je prosečna klijavost svih 
ispitanih partija semena 96,84%. Ukupno je proizvedeno 4.700 t primarno dorađenog semena., In 2020, the production of ZP hybrids was based on 1,422.65 ha. The largest part of the production
was contracted with external producers, while 20.3 ha were based on the fields of the Maize
Research Institute in Krnješevci and Školsko dobro. Production was made with all 12 external
producers with which it was contracted in 2019.
By climate production season was not ideal for the production of maize seed. Although there were
no long periods with high temperatures during the year, there was insufficient rainfall in the critical
phases. In the initial stages of development (from sowing to germination), insufficient rainfall was
recorded in many regions. In northern Bačka, the dry period lasted until the first half of May. Then
there were more abundant amounts of precipitation, followed by lower temperatures than usual for
that period. All this affected lower plant dencity and uneven emergence.

The occurrence of mycotoxins in sweet maize hybrids

AB  - The objective of the present study was to investigate the susceptibility of maize hybrids to the
natural mycotoxins contamination: aflatoxin total (AFLA), deoxynivalenol (DON),
zearalenon (ZEA) and fumonisins (FB). Hybrids were grown during two production years
(2019 and 2020) in two locations. Mycotoxin contamination of maize grains was evaluated in
five sweet maize hybrids. Contamination level of investigated hybrids of first cluster was
mainly by below average values of ZEA (all equal to zero) and DON. Hybrids PK4 (S) 2020,
PK6 (MS) 2020 and PK4 (MS) 2020 had below average values for AFLA, while remaining
treatments of this cluster have mostly elevated values of this mycotoxin. Contamination level
of investigated hybrids of second cluster mostly had increased values of mycotoxins ZEA
and DON and below average values of AFLA. Samples did not contain fumonisins.
Mycotoxin contamination were significantly affected by hybrids and years. We have
established that DON and ZEA levels were influenced by the environmental conditions.
There were no significant effects of location on the level of AFLA in the sweet maize
hybrids. The variation in the properties of mycotoxin content (DON) was significantly
influenced by hybrids, and there was no significance of hybrids x location interaction.
Differences were more expressed for the content of ZEA and AFLA compared to the content
of DON. Hybrid PK1 had the lowest content of DON, while it had the highest content of
ZEA. Mycotoxin analyses showed that in all tested hybrids, levels of AFLA, DON, ZEA and
FBs were below the maximum permissible levels stipulated by the legislation of the
European Union and the Republic of Serbia in maize intended for direct human consumption.
These results confirmed that the susceptibility of hybrids is one of the important risks, in addition to climatic factors, for the appearance of toxigenic fungi and their mycotoxins.
Genotype tolerance is very important as a preventive measure, which indicates that breeders
have to pay attention to it in sweet maize breeding programs.
AB  - Cilj ovog rada bio je da se prouči osteljivost hibrida kukuruza na prirodnu kontaminaciju
mikotoksinima (aflatoksin B1 (AFB1), deoksnivalenol (DON), zearalenol (ZEA) i fumonizini
(FB)). Hibrdi su gajeni tokom dve proizvodne godine (2019. i 2020) u dve lokacije.
Kontaminacija zrna kukuruza mikotoksinima ispitivana je na pet hibrida kukuruza šećerca. Nivo
kontaminacije proučavanih hibrida prvog klastera bio je uglavnom ispod prosečnih vrednosti
ZEA (sve vrednosti su bile nula) i DON. Vrednosti AFLA kod hibrida PK4 (S) 2020, PK6 (MS)
2020 i PK4 (MS) 2020 su bile ispod prosečne vrednosti, dok su vrednosti ovog mikotoksina bile
više od prosečnih vrednosti za ostale tretmane ovog klastera. Nivoi kontaminacije proučavanih
hibrida drugog klastera su uglavnom bili viši za mikotoksine ZEA i DON i niži za AFLA.
Fumnonizni nisu utrvđreni u uzorcima. Na kontaminaciju mikotoksinima značajno su uticali
hibiridi i godine. Utvrđeno je da su uslovi sredine uticali na nivoe DON i ZEA. Lokacija nije
značajno uticala na nivo AFLA kod hibrida kukuruza šećerca. Hibridi su značajno uticali na
variranje sadržaja mikotoksina (DON), dok hibrid × lokacija interakcija nije bila značajna.

The morfological and molecular identification of Fusarium verticillioides causing fusariosis on wheat grain

AB  - During the 2014-2017 period, wheat samples were collected from discoloured spikes affected by Fusarium head blight (FHB) from 20 locations in Serbia. After isolation, fungi were cultivated on potato dextrose agar (PDA) at 25oC for 7 days. Based on the in situ identification on PDA, 36 isolates of the section Liseola were selected for further analyses. The pathogenicity of all isolates was confirmed on wheat leaves. The virulence of isolates was determined by measuring the lengths of spots formed at the inoculation leaf site. In order to prove the presence of the species Fusarium verticillioides, a pair of primers FV-F2/FV-R was used. This pair of primers amplifies the sequence of the gaoB gene, and it proved to be specific for the stated species. Moreover, for the same purpose, a pair of primers VER1-VER2 based on the calmodulin partial gene was used. The reference isolate RBG 1603 Q27 was used as a positive control. The pair of primers VER1-VER2 produced a band of the expected size - 578 bp in 18 isolates, while using FV-F2/FV-R, a 370bp long band confirmed the presence of F. verticillioides in 16 samples. Sixteen out of 18 isolates verified with VER1-VER2 were also identified as F. verticillioides with FV-FS/FV-R. No amplification was observed in a negative control.
AB  - Tokom perioda od 2014. do 2017. godine sakupljani su uzorci pšenice sa fuzarioznih klasova sa 20 lokacija u Srbiji. Nakon izolacije, gljive su gajene na KDA podlozi 7 dana u termostatu na temperaturi od 25oC. Na osnovu identifikacije in situ na KDA (krompir dekstrozni agar), 36 izolata sekcije Liseola odabrano je za dalje analize. Potvrđena je patogenost svih izolata na listovima pšenice. Virulentnost izolata utvrđena je merenjem dužina formirane pege na mestu inokulacije. Za dokazivanje prisustva vrste Fusarium verticillioides korišćen je par prajmera FV-F2/FV-R koji umnožava sekvence gaoB gena i koji se pokazao kao specifičan za navedenu vrstu. Takođe, sa istim ciljem korišćen je par prajmera VER1-VER2 dizajniran na osnovu dela genske sekvence za kalmodulin. Kao pozitivna kontrola korišćen je referentni izolat RBG 1603 Q27. Par prajmera VER1-VER2 obrazovao je traku očekivane veličine (578bp) kod 18 izolata, dok je pomoću para prajmera FV-F2/FV-R traka dužine 370bp potvrdila prisustvo F. verticillioides kod 16 izolata. Šesnaest od 18 izolata koji su identifikovani VER1-VER2 parom, takođe su identifikovani i FV-FS/FV-R prajmerima. U negativnoj kontroli nije bilo amplifikacije.

Nakon izolacije, gljive su gajene na KDA podlozi 7 dana u termostatu na temperaturi od 25oC. Na osnovu identifikacije in situ na KDA (krompir dekstrozni agar), 36 izolata sekcije Liseola odabrano je za dalje analize. Potvrđena je patogenost svih izolata na listovima pšenice. Virulentnost izolata utvrđena je merenjem dužina formirane pege na mestu inokulacije. Za dokazivanje prisustva vrste Fusarium verticillioides korišćen je par prajmera FV-F2/FV-R koji umnožava sekvence gaoB gena i koji se pokazao kao specifičan za navedenu vrstu. Takođe, sa istim ciljem korišćen je par prajmera VER1-VER2 dizajniran na osnovu dela genske sekvence za kalmodulin. Kao pozitivna kontrola korišćen je referentni izolat RBG 1603 Q27. Par prajmera VER1-VER2 obrazovao je traku očekivane veličine (578bp) kod 18 izolata, dok je pomoću para prajmera FV-F2/FV-R traka dužine 370bp potvrdila prisustvo F. verticillioides kod 16 izolata. Šesnaest od 18 izolata koji su identifikovani VER1-VER2 parom, takođe su identifikovani i FV-FS/FV-R prajmerima. U negativnoj kontroli nije bilo amplifikacije.",

waight (M3), ensosperm dry weight afret to germination (M1), seed emergence (IV), germination
rate. The aim of this study was to determine the difference in seedling dry weight and endosperm
dry weight after to germination according to seeds fraction and hybrid combination. The averge of
1000- seed dry weight in both hybrids is 315.0 g. The weight of the M3 ranged between 17.7 g. and
19.9 g. The difference in M3 between seeds of different sizes is significant for SP and all other
fractions except for KP. M1 ranged from 235.5g. do 360.0 g. M1 differed significantly between SP,
SO, KP, and KO. M1 and M2 did not influence the formation of the sedling dry weight. Ek differs
according to the shape of the seed, the seed of flat fractions has an energy> 80%, while the seed of
round fractions is <77%. The rate of seed germination ranged from 84-100%. Flat fractions had
more affected rate germination than round ones. The hybrid combination and seed fraction was
statistically significant for all observed traits. The effect of genotype x location and genotype x
fraction interactions was the most important on the formation of seed weight. Sedling seed is the
first stage in the formation of a seed crop. The rate of seed sedling formation and its weight are
important aspects of the success of further production
AB  - Ispoljavanje morfoloških i fizioloških osobina zavise u prvom redu od hibidne kombinacije a potom
od ekoloških uslova sredine. Materijal korišćen u ovim istraživanjima su hibridi kukuruza iz grupe
zrenja (FAO 600), u okviru grupe imali smo dva hibrida (H1, H2) Instituta za kukuruz Zemun
Polje, na dve lokacije. Seme za laboratorijska ispitivnja podeljeno je na šest frakcija (SP, SO, SSP,
SSO, KP, KO), radni uzorci su formirani veličine 10x100 semena. U ovom radu prikazani su
rezultati za: suvu masu semena pre klijanja (M2), masu suvog klijanca (M3), masu suvog

<77%. Pljosnate frakcije imale su veći značaj za energiju sklijanja i brzinu klijanja od okruglih.
Posmatrani faktori, hibridna kombinacija i frakcija značajne su za ne faktore. Brzina nicanja i težina
klijanaca važni su aspekti za dalju stabilnu proizvodnju.

AB  - The aim of this study was to observe effects of the sowing date on the relationships among
morphological properties of maize ears. The trial was set up in Zemun Polje in 2019 and
encompassed five sowing dates with the initial one on April 1, and then on every 10 days until
May 10 (S1, S2, S3, S4, S5). Three inbred lines (L1, L2, L3) were used as a material. During
sowing, seeds were classified according to their size into small (6.5-8.4 mm), large (8.5-11 mm)
and the primary seed fraction (6.5-11 mm). The parameters for the following morphological ear
traits were determined under laboratory conditions: ear weight, ear length, ear thickness, cob
weight and the grain yield. Obtained results indicated the significant contribution of all factors in
expression of observed traits, as well as the significance of the interactions. The inbred L1 was
the most stable genotype for the ear weight and the cob weight. The ear length and the ear
thickness varied the least in all genotypes. The initial sowing dates (S1 and S2) were the most
important for the ear weight. The third sowing date was the most important for the ear length
(19.81cm) and the ear thickness (5.94cm). The highest cob weight was recorded in plants sown
on the fifth sowing date (S5). The LSD tests showed that the differences in the morphological
traits of ears of different sowing dates were significant between S5 and the remaining four
sowing dates (p<0.05). Various fractions used in sowing affected all traits.

AB  - Због интезивне примене минералних ђубрива и пестицида, који повољно утичу на
повећање продуктивности али штетно на животну средину, све већи изазов у свету
представља проналажење еколошки прихватљивог начина гајења усева, који ће
обезбедити одрживи и задовољавајући принос. Једна од алтернативних метода која се
успешно користи у ту сврху јесте гајење два или више усева истовремено на истом
пољу. Циљ овог истраживања био је да се процени агрономска вредност, тј. принос
соје и проса комбинованих на различите начине (наизменични редови и наизменичне
траке) и упореди са самостално гајеним усевима. Експеримент је постављен на
огледном пољу Института за кукуруз “Земун Поље”, током 2018. и 2020. године. Соја
(сорта Селена) и просо (сорта Бисерка) су посејани у три различите комбинације (С-П,
СС-ПП, СС-ПППП), као и контролни усеви, док је истовремено испитиван и утицај
био-ђубрива Coveron (садржи микоризне гљиве и ризосферне бактерије). Добијени
приноси су изражени преко односа еквивалента земљишта (ЛЕР), док је компетиција
између соје и проса описана помоћу компетитивне способности (ЦР) и агресивности
(А). Резултати су показали да све три испитиване комбинације здруживања повољно
утичу на продуктивност. Просечне ЛЕР вредности су у свим комбинацијама веће од 1,
указујући на већу продуктивност соје и проса у здруженим у односу на чисте усеве.
Највише ЛЕР вредности су постигнуте у СС-ММ комбинацијама (1.48 и 1.28 са и без
Coveron-а, респективно). Разматрајући компетицију, соја се истакла као
компетитивнија и доминантнија врста, посебно у комбинацијама наизменичних трака,
где је у СС-ММММ комбинацији са био-ђубривом забележена ЦР вредност од 3.19 и А
вредност од 1.34. На основу наведених резултата може се закључити да је изражена
компетитивност соје у односу на просо повољна за здруживање наведених врста и има
агрономску вредност у одрживој пољопривреди.
AB  - Due to the intensive application of mineral fertilizers and pesticides, which have a favorable 
effect on increasing productivity but are harmful to the environment, finding an ecological 
way of growing crops, which will provide a sustainable and satisfactory yield, is a growing 
challenge in the world. One of alternative methods that is successfully used for this purpose is 
growing two or more crops simultaneously in the same field. The aim of this study was to 
assess the agronomic value, ie. yield of soybean and common millet intercropped in different 
ways (alternating rows and alternating strips) and compare with monocrops. The experiment 
was set up on the experimental field of the Maize Research Institute "Zemun Polje", during 
2018 and 2020. Soybean (var. Selena) and common millet (var. Biserka) were sown in three 
different combinations (SP, SS-PP, SS-PPPP), as well as control crops, while at the same 
time the influence of bio-fertilizer Coveron (containing mycorrhizal fungi and rhizosphere 
bacteria) was examined. The obtained yields are expressed through the land equivalent ratio 
(LER), while the competition between soybean and millet is described by competitive ratio 
(CR) and aggressivity (A). The results showed that all three examined combinations have 
favorable effect on productivity. The average LER values in all intercrops are greater than 1, 
indicating higher productivity of soybean and millet in intercropping compared to pure crops. 
The highest LER values were achieved in SS-MM combinations (1.48 and 1.28 with and 
without Coveron, respectively). Considering competition, the soybean stood out as more 
competitive and dominant specie, especially in the combinations of alternating strips, where 
CR value of 3.19 and A value of 1.34 were calculated for SS-MMMM combination treated 
with bio-fertilizer. Based on the above results, it can be concluded that expressed 
competitiveness of soybean in relation to millet is favorable for intercropping of these species 
and has agronomic value in sustainable agriculture.

агрономску вредност у одрживој пољопривреди., Due to the intensive application of mineral fertilizers and pesticides, which have a favorable 
effect on increasing productivity but are harmful to the environment, finding an ecological 
way of growing crops, which will provide a sustainable and satisfactory yield, is a growing 
challenge in the world. One of alternative methods that is successfully used for this purpose is 
growing two or more crops simultaneously in the same field. The aim of this study was to 
assess the agronomic value, ie. yield of soybean and common millet intercropped in different 
ways (alternating rows and alternating strips) and compare with monocrops. The experiment 
was set up on the experimental field of the Maize Research Institute "Zemun Polje", during 
2018 and 2020. Soybean (var. Selena) and common millet (var. Biserka) were sown in three 
different combinations (SP, SS-PP, SS-PPPP), as well as control crops, while at the same 
time the influence of bio-fertilizer Coveron (containing mycorrhizal fungi and rhizosphere 
bacteria) was examined. The obtained yields are expressed through the land equivalent ratio 
(LER), while the competition between soybean and millet is described by competitive ratio 
(CR) and aggressivity (A). The results showed that all three examined combinations have 
favorable effect on productivity. The average LER values in all intercrops are greater than 1, 
indicating higher productivity of soybean and millet in intercropping compared to pure crops. 
The highest LER values were achieved in SS-MM combinations (1.48 and 1.28 with and 
without Coveron, respectively). Considering competition, the soybean stood out as more 
competitive and dominant specie, especially in the combinations of alternating strips, where 
CR value of 3.19 and A value of 1.34 were calculated for SS-MMMM combination treated 
with bio-fertilizer. Based on the above results, it can be concluded that expressed 
competitiveness of soybean in relation to millet is favorable for intercropping of these species 
and has agronomic value in sustainable agriculture.",

AB  - Intercropping, as sustainable agricultural practice effectively uses environmental resources,
affecting the nutritive quality of crops by modifying the concentration of macro- and microelements
in grain. In order to improve the availability of nutrients from the soil, bio-fertilizers could
also be used successfully in elements management. A field experiment was conducted with soybean (var. Selena) and proso millet (var. Biserka) to examine the integrated influence of intercropping and bio-fertilizer on Ca, Mg, S, Fe and Zn accumulation in grain. Mono-crops (T1 - soybean, T2 - millet), as well as tree planting patterns of intercrop, including alternating rows of soybean and proso millet (T3), alternating strips of two rows of soybean and two rows of millet (T4) and alternating strips of two rows of soybean and four rows of millet (T5), were set up in 2018 and
2020. The same combinations, as subplots, were treated with bio-fertilizer Coveron (C) (containing
mycorrhizal fungi, Trichoderma and plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria). After harvest, grains
were dried and milled and preparation of samples was performed using wet digestion procedure
with HClO4 + HNO3. The concentration of Ca, Mg and S were determined by ICP-OES, while Fe
and Zn concentration was measured on ICP-MS. Results showed that Coveron reduced S
concentration in soybean grain, while the status of other elements mainly remained unchanged. In
terms of intercropping, soybean from T5 combination had a significantly higher level of Fe in
comparison to T1 and T3, and higher but not significantly than T4, emphasizing alternating strips as
more effective for accumulation of this element in grain. Combination T3 + C provided the highest
accumulation of Ca, while T5 + C significantly raised Fe concentration. In terms of proso millet,
bio-fertilizer expressed a greater impact on Ca, Fe and Zn by increasing their concentration. On the
other side, all intercrop combinations expressed a positive impact on Fe concentration and
simultaneously reduced Zn concentration. When mutual influence is considered, T4 + C
significantly increased Ca and Fe values, while T2 + C increased Zn value, pointing positive effect
of integrated and sustainable agricultural practices on an accumulation of essential elements in a
grain of proso millet. In conclusion, different intercrop combinations combined with bio-fertilizer
could be successfully used to improve the nutritional quality of soybean and millet grains in terms
of sustainable food production, but further investigations are required to highlight other aspects of
potentially enhanced nutritional quality.
