AB  - U radu su prikazani rezultati ispitivanja klijavosti semena i početnog porasta klijanaca četiri
hibrida suncokreta (2950, 2951, 3007, 3009) pri različitim temperaturama: 20, 25 i 30 °C. Kod
svih ispitivanih hibrida najviše klijanje semena suncokreta ostvareno je na temperaturi od 30 °C,
međutim, na dva ispitivana hibrida (2950 i 3007) nije nađena značajna razlika (p ≥ 0,05) između
klijavosti na temperaturi 30 i 25 °C. Korelacionom međuzavisnošću između klijavosti i porasta
stabaoceta utvrđena je pozitivna i statistički značajna razlika (r=0,576- p ≤ 0,05), dok je između
klijavosti i porasta korenka utvrđena takođe pozitivna međuzavisnost, ali ne i statistički značajna
razlika (r=0,252- p ≥ 0,05).

AB  - Globalno zagrevanje, zagađenje životne sredine, gubitak biološke raznolikosti biljnih vrsta su
pojave koje pokreću nove trendove i debate o ljudskom društvu. Održivi razvoj je novi koncept
u svetu koji treba da zadovolji potrebe ljudskog društva uz očuvanje i unapređenje prirodnih resursa. Indikatori održivog razvoja su glavni alati u sprovođenju mera očuvanja prirodnih resursa.
U poljoprivredi jedan od indikatora su štete nastale primenom sintetičkih sredstava. Primena
novih tehnologija bez upotrebe hemijskih agenasa u zaštiti useva je mera koja treba da umanji
nastale ekološke gubitke. Etarska ulja su jedan od najznačajniji prirodnih metabolita, sekundarni
produkti aromatičnih biljaka koji se uspešno koriste kao biopesticidi. Biološka aktivnost etarskih
ulja u poljoprivredi ima antimikrobno i herbicidno dejstvo. Efekti ulja zavise od pojedinačnih
bioaktivnih komponenti. U prirodi igraju važnu ulogu u zaštiti biljaka kao antibakterijski, antivirusni, antifungalni, insekticidni agensi. Kod većine korova, ulja kao tipični lipofili, prolaze kroz
ćelijski zid citoplazmatske membrane, remete strukturu njihovih različitih slojeva polisaharida,
masnih kiselina i fosfolipida i permeabiliziraju ih. Štete od primene eteričnih ulja (EU) na biljkama ogledaju se kroz hloroze, nekroze i inhibicije rasta. Značaj upotrebe ulja i drugih prirodnih
metabolita ukazuje na njihovu upotrebnu vrednost u održivoj poljoprivredi iako fiziološka aktivnost ulja još uvek nije dovljno istražena.
AB  - Environmental problems such as global warming, pollution, and the decline of plant species
biodiversity are leading to new social trends and discussions. A relatively new idea of global
sustainable development aims to meet societal demands while protecting and enhancing natural
resources. The main tools used in the implementation of natural resource protection measures
are sustainable development indicators. One of these indicators is the damage caused by the use
of synthetic chemicals in agriculture. In Serbia, agriculture is an important sector of the economy
with different levels of technological progress, from extensive to intensive. The degree of pollution and its impact on the environment varies according to agricultural production. The challenges
faced by modern agricultural production in conditions of technological progress have led to the
intensification of production, but have also caused concern about maintaining the natural balance of cultivated land and product quality. The application of innovative technologies for crop
protection without the use of chemical agents is a step that should reduce the environmental
damage caused. Among the most important natural metabolites and secondary products of aromatic plants used as biopesticides are essential oils. The biological activities of essential oils (EOs)
in agriculture have antimicrobial and herbicidal effects. The various bioactive components of the
oil determine its action. In nature, they play an important role in protecting plants from bacteria,
fungi, viruses and insects. In most weeds, the oils penetrate the cytoplasmic membrane of the cell
as typical lipophiles and cause its multilayers of polysaccharides, fatty acids and phospholipids to
lose their structure and become permeable. Chlorosis, necrosis, and growth inhibition are symptoms of damage caused by the application of essential oils to plants. Although the physiological
effects of the oil are not yet well studied, the importance of its use and other natural metabolites
indicates its value for sustainable agriculture

Hydraulic properties of fine-textured soils in lowland ecosystems of Western Serbia vary depending on land use

AB  - Land use in agriculture can alter the physical, chemical and biological properties of soils, but little is known how
it affects the hydraulic properties of the fine-textured soils of lowland agroecosystems in continental climates.
This research assesses the impact of long-term (>100 years) continuous use of natural meadows and arable land,
after conversion of native mixed deciduous forests, on hydraulic properties such as water retention, pore-size
distribution, saturated hydraulic conductivity, and bulk density. The research was conducted on Fluvic Phaeozems
in the valley of the Kolubara River, western Serbia. Disturbed and undisturbed soil samples from three
different land use systems (forest, meadow, and arable land) and three different locations were collected at 0–15,
15–30, and 30–45 cm soil depth. Significant effects of different land uses were observed for bulk density, total
porosity, macroporosity, mesoporosity, microporosity, air-filled porosity, field water capacity, plant available
water capacity and saturated hydraulic conductivity at 0–15 cm soil depth, but a much smaller effect was
observed at 15–30 cm. The water content estimated by the van Genuchten model was similar to the measured
water content (R2 = 0.932–0.972). At 30–45 cm soil depth, land use only significantly affected a few of the
examined variables. Dexter's soil physical quality index (S-index) also detected degradation of soil physical
quality after conversion from forest to agroecosystems. In summary, the conversion of native forests into agricultural
land tends to cause considerable change in the hydraulic properties and soil physical quality of finetextured
soils in lowland continental agroecosystems, which could have an adverse effect on crop yield and
the environment.

Direct and Joint Effects of Genotype, Defoliation and Crop Density on the Yield of Three Inbred Maize Lines

AB  - The aim of this study was to observe direct and joint effects of three factors (genotypes,
ecological environmental conditions and the applied crop density) on the level of defoliation intensity
and yield. Three inbred lines (G) of maize (G1–L217RfC, G2–L335/99 and G3–L76B004) were used
in the study. The trials were performed in two years (Y) (Y1 = 2016 and Y2 = 2017) and in two
locations (L) (L1 and L2) under four ecological conditions of the year–location interaction (E1–E4)
and in two densities (D1 and D2) (50,000 and 65,000 plants ha−1
). Prior to tasselling, the following
five treatments of detasseling and defoliation (T) were applied: T1—control, no leaf removal only
detasseling, T2–T5—removal of tassels and top leaves (from one to four top leaves). The defoliation
treatments had the most pronounced effect on the yield reduction in G1 (T1–Tn+1 . . . T5), p < 0.05.
The ecological conditions on yield variability were expressed under poor weather conditions (E3 and
E4), while lower densities were less favorable for the application of defoliation treatments. The result
of joint effects of factors was the lowest grain yield (896 kg/ha) in G3 in the variant E3D1 for T2 and
the highest grain yield (11,389 kg/ha) in G3 in the variant E2D2 for T1. The smallest effect of the
defoliation treatment was on the kernel row number (KRN)

AB  - This study was conducted to compare soil particle density (ρs), soil total porosity (TP), liquid limit (LL), plastic limit (PL), and plasticity index, and their relations with soil organic matter (SOM), of non-carbonate silty clay Fluvisols under different land uses. Three neighboring land uses were studied: native deciduous forest, arable land, and meadow, managed in the same way for more than 100 years. Soil was collected from 27 soil profiles and from three depths (0–15, 15–30 and 30–45 cm). Land use caused statistically significant but different impacts on soil properties, particularly in the topsoil. The forest topsoil measured the lowest ρs and bulk density (ρb) but the highest SOM and soil water content at PL, compared to meadow and arable soil. Statistically significant linear relationship was observed with the SOM content and ρs (− 0.851**), ρb (− 0.567**), calculated TP (0.567**) and measured TP (− 0.280**). There was a nonlinear relationship between SOM and LL (0.704**) and PL (0.845**) at the topsoil. The findings suggested that SOM content strongly affected ρs, ρb, TP, LL and LP. This regional study showed that the conversion of forestland into agricultural land without appropriate measures to conserve SOM leads to the degradation of physical and rheological soil properties.

Serbian white-brined cheeses was investigated. Water-soluble (WSF) and water- insoluble fractions
(WINF) of three cow’s and three ovine white-brined cheeses were fractionated. Total antioxidant capacity,
reducing power and iron (II) chelating properties of these fractions before and after in vitro digestion
were assayed. The investigated protein fractions had different antioxidant properties. WSFs had a
better total antioxidant capacity and reducing power and less pronounced iron (II) chelating properties
than WINFs. A strong negative correlation (-0.818, P<0.05) between the total antioxidant capacities of
undigested WSF and WINF of traditional cheeses were observed. In vitro digestion greatly improved
the total antioxidant capacities of WINFs (by 16.61-34.18 times), their reducing power (up to 95.77 %)
and except in the case of Svrljig ovine cheese, the iron (II) chelating ability as well. A less pronounced
increase (up to 71.29 %) of the total antioxidant capacity of WSFs was induced by in vitro digestion. In
vitro digestion reduced reducing power of WSF of investigated ovine cheeses as well as reducing power
of WSF of Homolje cow’s cheese. Since there was no significant correlation between the investigated
antioxidant properties of digested WSFs and their free amino acids and mineral contents the observed
differences should be attributed to different composition and properties of low molecular weight peptides.
Thus, further investigations related to their isolation and characterization needs to be conducted.
However, these results indicate that Serbian white-brined cheeses have great potential as source of
antioxidant peptides.
AB  - Ispitan je utjecaj simulirane in vitro digestije na antioksidativni potencijal proteinske frakcije tradicionalnih srpskih bijelih sireva u salamuri. Iz bijelih sireva u salamuri (tri kravlja i tri ovčja) frakcionirane su u vodi topljive (VTF) i u vodi netopljive proteinske frakcije (VNTF). Analiziran je ukupni antioksidativni kapacitet, sposobnost redukcije i svojstva keliranja željeza (II) ovih frakcija prije te nakon in vitro digestije. Ispitane proteinske frakcije imale su različita antioksidativna svojstva. VTF su imale bolji
ukupni antioksidativni kapacitet, sposobnost redukcije i manje izražena kelirajuća svojstva željeza (II) u odnosu na VNTF. Uočena je snažna negativna korelacija (-0,818, P<0,05) između ukupnih antioksidacijskih kapaciteta neprobavljenih VTF i VNTF tradicionalnih sireva. In vitro digestija uveliko je poboljšala ukupan antioksidativni kapacitet VNTF (16,61-34,18 puta), njihovu sposobnost redukcije (do 95,77 %), i osim u slučaju svrljiškog ovčjeg sira, sposobnost keliranja željeza (II). Manje izražen porast (do 71,29 %) ukupnog antioksidativnog kapaciteta VTF izazvan je in vitro digestijom. Smanjenje sposobnosti redukcije nakon in vitro digestije uočeno je kod svih VTF ispitivanih ovčjih sireva, kao i kod homoljskog sira od kravljeg mlijeka. Kako nije bilo značajne korelacije između ispitivanih antioksidativnih svojstava digestivnih VTF i sadržaja slobodnih aminokiselina i minerala, uočene razlike treba pripisati različitom sastavu i svojstvima peptida niske molekulske mase. Stoga je potrebno provesti daljnja ispitivanja vezana za njihovu
izolaciju i karakterizaciju. Međutim, ovi rezultati ukazuju da srpski bijeli sirevi u salamuri imaju veliki potencijal kao izvor antioksidativnih peptida.
