AB  - The aim of the study was to determine the changes in grain yields in yield trials related to the sterile
and fertile ratio of female parent in seed production. Total of 21 mixtures of 0, 5, 10, etc. up to
100% of fertile plants mixed with the sterile variant of the hybrid ZPSC 341 was made. Because of
reliability of the experiment, the original fertile hybrid ZPSC 341 was used as a check three times.
Effects of fertile, i.e. sterile male cytoplasm in female parent of the observed hybrid on yield and
yield variations were studied. The extent of dependence of the percentage of fertile plants on yield
was determined. Furthermore, the sterile to fertile hybrid variant ratio resulting in the highest yield
was established. The analysis of results indicate that the highest average yield (16.024 t ha-1) was
obtained with 80% fertility of female plants, while the lowest average yield (13.892 t ha-1) was gained with 15% fertility, although the difference was not significant.

Influence of grain moisture content during harvest on the maize seed germination

AB  - Modern maize seed drying and processing technology is applied today to ensure high quality grain. The most important factor in preserving seed quality is the moisture content. The time of harvesting, drying, storage and seed conservation is determined by the seed water quantity. At the harvesting time, a lower moisture content is desirable due to seed physiological maturity as well as consequences that may be caused during seed drying. During seed storage, water in seed is maintained at the level of latency to preserve vital seed functions, for maize it is 13-14 %. Influence of different seed moisture content, during harvesting time, on maize seed quality were studied in this research. Two physiological traits of seed were observed: seed energy and germination. Material used in this research were maize hybrids ZP 434 and ZP 666. Moisture content during harvesting time was measured after drying and primary processing, two seed sizes were obtained. From the divided seed samples were taken for laboratory tests. Harvesting was done at different seed moisture content  lt  25 %, 25-30 %, 30-35 % and > 35 %. Maize cobs were dried in double-pass system drier with air temperature below 42 oC. Cob moisture is measured with moisture meter (Pfeuffer). Seed was divided into two fractions according to size using sieves with mesh sizes ranging from 6.5 - 8.3 mm and 8.4 - 11.0 mm. Seed energy and germination were determined in seed testing laboratory on working samples 4x100 seed, by standard maize germination test with ISTA Rules, and Rule on the quality of seed of agricultural plants. Experimental results were calculated on average mean and total variability xx, SD i C.V. for seed energy, germination and moisture content. The three factorial analysis of variance was calculated for both germination traits (seed energy and germination), for factors: hybrid, seed sizes and seed moisture content. The results of all factors and traits had different values. The highest means of seed energy and germination in both fractions of both observed hybrids were recorded with the seed moisture content ranging from 30 to 35 %.
AB  - U cilju dobijanja što kvalitetnijeg semenskog materijala, danas je u primeni savremena tehnologija dorade i sušenja semena. Jedan od osnovnih činilaca očuvanja kvaliteta semena je voda. Količina vode u semenu određuje vreme berbe, način sušenja, skladištenja i očuvanja kvaliteta semena.U vreme berbe poželjan je manji sadržaj vode, kako zbog fiziološke zrelosti semena tako i zbog posledica koje mogu biti uzrokovane dužim periodom sušenja. Za vreme čuvanja semena voda se održava na nivou latentnosti životnih funkcija, a za kukuruz to je 13-14%. U ovim istraživanjima posmatran je uticaj različitih vlažnosti semena u toku berbe na kvalitet semena. Posmatrane su dve fiziološke osobine semena: energija klijanja i klijavost. Materijal korišćen u istraživanjima su dva hibrida kukuruza ZP 434 i ZP 666. Berba je vršena sa različitom vlažnošću semena, a posle sušenja i krunjenja, iz naturalnog semenskog materijala izdvojene su dve frakcije po krupnoći. Iz podeljenog semenskog materijala izdvajani su uzorci za laboratorijsko ispitivanje semena. Berba je vršena sa različitom vlažnošću semena, koja je bila:  lt  25%, 25-30%, 30-35% i sa vlažnošću većoj od 35%. Sušenje semenskog klipa obavljeno je u sušarama tipa komora sa dva prolaza fluida za sušenje klipa kukuruza na temperaturi ispod 42oC. Ulazna vlaga klipa merena je laboratorijskim uređajima za određivanje vlage Pfeuffer. Deljenje semena na dve frakcija izvršeno je po krupnoći korišćenjem sita promera 6,5-8,3 mm i 8,4-11,0 mm. Ispitivanje energije klijanja i klijavosti rađeno je u laboratoriji za ispitivanje semena na radnom uzorku 4x100 semena po standardnoj metodi na naizmeničnoj temperaturi 20-30oC po ISTA pravilima i Pravilniku o kvalitetu semena poljoprivrednog bilja. Eksperimentalni podaci obrađeni su na srednju vrednost, standardnu devijaciju i ukupnu varijabilnost (, SD i C.V.) za sve osobine semena i svaku varijantu istraživanja. Trofaktorijalna analiza varijanse urađena je za obe posmatrane osobine semena (energiju klijanja i klijavost), za faktore: hibrid, frakcija i vlažnost semena. Dobijeni rezultati po svim osnovama, pokazuju različite vrednosti. Najveća enegija klijanja i klijavost semena utvrđeni su za seme čija je vlaga u toku berbe bila 30-35% za oba ispitivana hibrida.

The manifestation of symptoms of herbicide (Sulfonylurea) phytotoxic effects in their application in seed maize crop

AB  - Effects of three sulfonylurea herbicides on 82 commercial maize inbreds, developed by the Maize Research Institute, Zemun Polje, were encompassed by the present study. Fifty six of the total number of inbreds were self-pollination ones derived in spatial isolation (PL), while the rest of 26 were inbred combinations (KL). The trial under production conditions was set up on degraded chernozem in Zemun Polje during 1997 and 1998. In 1997, the percentage of malformed plants was established for each inbred and each treatment. In 1998, phytotoxicity was determined only by the EWRC estimate. The highest percent of plants with leaf color change (45.63 %), occurring ten days upon the herbicide application (1st estimate), was observed in the treatment with rimsulfuron in 1997. The percent of injured plants in a sense of color change was on the average lower in inbred combinations (KL) than in PL inbred lines. The number of plants characterized by twisting and bending of the above ground parts was also on the average significantly lower. Injures of plants treated with primisulfuron-methyl, although the mildest, remained till the end of the growing season. The levels of phytotoxicity in PL inbreds, determined by the EWRC estimate, were higher in 1998 than 1997 and on the average ranged from 4.78 to 4.92, pointing out that plants were slightly to moderately injured.
AB  - Ispitivan je uticaj tri herbicida grupe sulfonilurea na 82 komercijalne linije kukuruza Instituta za kukuruz. Od ukupnog broja ispitivanih linija, 56 su samooplodne linije iz prostorne izolacije (PL) i 26 kombinacije linija (KL). Ogled je postavljen u proizvodnim uslovima, na zemljištu tipa degradirani černozem u Zemun Polju tokom 1997 i 1998. godine. U 1997. godini na svim varijantama ogleda utvrđivan je procenat deformisanih u odnosu na ukupan broj biljaka, za svaku liniju i svaki tretman. U 1998. godini korišćena je samo EWRC ocena fitotoksičnosti. Za svaki tretman obračunate su prosečne vrednosti dobijenih rezultata i odstupanje od proseka (SD). Simptomi oštećenja biljaka linija tretiranih sulfonilurea herbicidima ispoljavala su se u pojavi različitih simptoma, koji su se sastojali u promeni boje listova i pojavi uvrnuća nadzemnog dela. Promena boje nadzemnog dela se najčešće manifestovala u vidu crvene ili žute boje listova tretiranih biljaka. Kod osetljivih genotipova, intenzitet ovih promena je tako jak da dolazi do sušenja cele biljke. Najveći procenat biljaka sa promenom boje nadzemnog dela deset dana po primeni herbicida (prva ocena) uočen na tretmanu rimsulfuronom (45,63 %). Procenat oštećenja biljaka tipa promene boje kod kombinacija linija (KL) je u proseku manji u odnosu na samooplodne PL linije. Broj biljaka kod kojih su utvrđene deformacije tipa uvrnuća nadzemnog dela biljaka je u proseku bio znatno manji. Oštećenja biljaka tretiranih sa primisulfuron-metilom, iako najmanja, zadržavaju se do kraja vegetacionog perioda. Vrednosti EWRC ocena fitotoksičnosti kod PL linija u 1998. godini su veće u odnosu na 1997. godinu i u proseku su se kretale od 4,78 do 4,92. što ukazuje na to da su oštećenja biljaka laka do umerena. Rezultati ukazuju da postoji mogućnost primene sulfonilurea herbicida kod otpornih linija kukuruza. ččinjenica da je osetljivost linija u odnosu na herbicide u jakoj zavisnosti i od klimatskih uslova staništa, ukazuje na obaveznu opreznost pri primeni ovih herbicida u semenskoj proizvodnji ovog useva.

AB  - A hypothesis that elite erect leaf maize inbred lines are characterized by properties of an efficient photo-model and that as such are very desirable in increasing the number of plants per unit area (plant density) in the process of seed production has been confirmed in the present study. The properties of the observed elite erect leaf maize inbred lines were based on the effects and characteristics of thermal processes of delayed chlorophyll fluorescence occurring in their thylakoid membranes. The temperature dependence of the delayed chlorophyll fluorescence intensity, the Arrhenius plot for the determination of phase transitions (critical temperatures) and activation energy are the principal parameters of the thermal processes. Based on the obtained results on photosynthetic properties it was also possible to estimate the tolerance and adaptation of elite erect leaf maize inbred lines to high temperatures and drought.
AB  - U ovom radu potvrđuje se naša hipoteza da elitne samooplodne linije kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem listova imaju svojstvo efikasnog fotosintetičnog modela i da se, kao takve, u semenarstvu uspešno koriste pri povećavanju broja biljaka na jedinici površine (gustina biljaka). Ova hipoteza dokazana je egzaktnom primenom neinvazivnog fotosintetično-bioluminiscentnog metoda sa zakasnelom fluorescencijom hlorofila, pogodnog za ocenu efikasnosti fotosintetičnog modela. Dobijene fotosintetične karakteristike elitnih samooplodnih linija kukuruza: ZPPL 16, ZPPL 111, ZPL 773 i ZPPPL 121, sa uspravnim položajem listova, zasnovane su na efektima i prirodi promena zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila koje se odigravaju u njihovim tilakoidnim membranama. Glavni pokazatelji su temperaturna zavisnost intenziteta zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila, Arenijusov kriterijum za utvrđivanje faznih prelaza (kritične temperature) u tilakoidnim membranama i energije aktivacije. Utvrđene fotosintetične karakteristike još omogućavaju da se proučavane elitne samooplodne linije kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem listova ocene i na njihovu tolerantnost i adaptaciju prema delovanju visokih temperatura kao i suše.
