AB  - The infrared spectroscopy was applied on kernels of the following maize inbred
lines with significant traits: ZPPL 186, ZPPL 225 and M1-3-3 Sdms, with the aim
to determine structural properties of organic compounds and their unstable state.
The set hypothesis was that it was necessary to observe the existence of numerous
and different spectral bands, not studied so far, occurring in various patterns (bands
of low intensity, single or grouped) and to explain the nature and the dynamics of
their formation. Such spectral bands were observed in the wave number range of
400—2925 cm—1 and are caused by the different types of vibration movements
(valence and deformation vibrations) of organic compounds: alkenes, aromatic
compounds, alcohols, ethers, carboxylic acids, esters, amines, amides, alkanes,
nitro compounds, ketones, aldehydes, alkynes, nitriles and phenols. In this way, it
is possible to establish not only the structure of organic compounds of kernels of
observed maize inbred lines, but also it is possible to point out to their unstable,
conformational and functional properties. The importance of intensity, shape and
kinetics of spectral bands, expressing unstable processes in biological systems and
bioactive organic molecules, has been studied and emphasised for the first time.
AB  - В работе рассмотрено применение метода инфракрасной спектроскопии зерен элитных инбредных линий кукурузы ZPPL 186, ZPPL 225 и M1-3-3 Sdms с целью определения структурных характеристик органических соединений и их неустойчивого состояния. Выдвинута гипотеза о необходимости изучения различных многочисленных спектральных полос, неисследованных до сих пор, появляющихся в различных формах (полосы низкой интенсивности, одиночные или сгруппированные), объяснения природы и динамики их образования. Такие спектральные полосы наблюдались в диапазоне волн 400—2925 см—1, они вызваны различными типами колебаний (валентных и деформационных) органических соединений: алкенов, ароматических
соединений, спиртов, простых эфиров, карбоновых кислот, сложных эфиров, аминов, амидов, алканов, нитросоединений, кетонов, альдегидов, алкинов, нитрилов и фенолов. Таким образом, можно установить не только структуру органических соединений зерен наблюдаемых инбредных линий кукурузы, но также указать их неустойчивые, конформационные и функциональные свойства. В работе впервые акцентирована важность изучения формы, кинетики и интенсивности спектральных полос, выражающих неустойчивые процессы в биологических системах и биоактивных органических молекулах.
AB  - У роботі розглянуто застосування методу інфрачервоної спектроскопії зерен елітних
інбредних ліній кукурудзи ZPPL 186, ZPPL 225 і M1-3-3 Sdms з метою визначення структурних характеристик органічних сполук та їх нестійкого стану. Висунуто гіпотезу про необхідність вивчення різних численних спектральних смуг,
недосліджених досі, що з'являються в різних формах (смуги низької інтенсивності,
поодинокі або згруповані), пояснення природи і динаміки їх утворення. Такі спектральні смуги спостерігали в діапазоні хвиль 400—2925 см-1, вони спричинені різними типами коливань (валентних і деформаційних) органічних сполук: алкенів,ароматичних сполук, спиртів, простих ефірів, карбонових кислот, складних ефірів,
амінів, амідів, алканів, нітросполук, кетонів, альдегідів, алкінів, нітрилів і фенолів.
Отже, можна встановити не тільки структуру органічних сполук зерен досліджуваних
інбредних ліній кукурудзи, а й вказати їх нестійкі, конформаційні та функціональні властивості. У роботі вперше акцентована важливість вивчення форми, кінетики та інтенсивності спектральних смуг, що виражають нестійкі процеси в біологічних системах і біоактивних органічних молекулах.

Identification of characteristic organic molecules in kernels of maize (Zea mays L.) hybrid grain using infrared spectroscopy

AB  - Modern biophysical methods have provided a breakthrough in investigations of the status and functions of the intact plants at the molecular level. The infrared (IR) spectroscopy allows us to analyze the molecular composition and structure by recording the absorption of infrared radiation as a function of frequency of valent and deformation vibrations (wavenumber, cm-1) for chemical bonds. We used the IR Fourier spectroscopy method (IR spectra with Fourier Transformation,) to investigated the grain composition in maize hybrids - ZP 341, ZP 434 and ZP 505 created at Maize Research Institute (Zemun Polje, Belgrade, Serbia). The resulted spectra differed in peak number and intensity, and in oscillation frequency. Particularly, there are 20 to 23 peaks and characteristic spectral bands within the wavenumber range of 400 to 4000 cm-1. Characteristic spectral bands were analyzed for each hybrid with regard to absorption intensity in %, experimentally determined wavenumber in cm-1, and published wavenumber range. A comparison of these peaks to reference IR spectra from databases revealed biogenic organic molecules: alcohols, amines, esters, alkanes, carboxylic acids, alkenes, aldehydes, ketones and esters in the studied grain hybrids. In a typical IR spectrum of maize hybrid ZP 341 there were three most distinct bands with wavenumbers of 3400, 2900 and 1000 cm-1. Four peaks (3400, 2950, 1700 and 1000 cm-1) were characteristic of the ZP 434 hybrid, and eight major peaks of 3400, 2900, 2850, 1750, 1700, 1450, 1150 and 1000 cm-1 were observed in ZP 505. That is, the grain charterisics in ZP 505 slightly differ from those in ZP 341 and ZP 434, whereas in ZP 341 and ZP 434 the grain structure is more similar. In general, Serbian hybrids are characterized by high quality, productivity and technological suitability. The developed methodology for IR spectra recording and analysis in grain allows to reveal the composition and structure of biogenic compounds. It is important not only for diagnosis and breeding, but also for the development of biotechnological screening methods, or the estimation of grain storage time.

AB  - This paper discusses the application of the infrared (IR) spectroscopy method for determination of structural properties of maize hybrid grains. The IR spectrum of maize grain has been registered in the following hybrids: ZP 341, ZP 434 and ZP 505. The existence of spectral bands varying in both number and intensity, as well as their shape, frequency and kinetics have been determined. They have been determined by valence oscillations and deformation oscillations of the following organic compounds: alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, amides, alcohols, ethers, carboxylic acids, esters and aldehydes and ketones, characteristic for biogenic compounds such as carbohydrates, proteins and lipids. In this way, possible changes in the grain structure of observed maize hybrids could be detected.
AB  - U ovom radu razmatra se primena metode infracrvene spektro skopije na zrnu hibrida kukuruza radi utvrđivanja njegovih mogućih strukturnih karakteristika. Izvršeno je registrovanje infracrvenog spektra zrna hibrida kukuruza: ZP 341, ZP 434 i ZP 505. Pokazano je postojanje različitih spek tralnih traka, kako po broju i intenzitetu, tako i po njihovom obliku, frekvenciji i kinetici. Do njih se dolazi valentnim oscilacijama i deformacijama funkcionalnih grupa: alkana, alkena, alkina, amida, alkohola, etra, karboksilne ki seline, estra, aldehida i ketona, koje su karakteristične za biogena jedinjenja ugljovodonika, proteina i lipida. Na ovaj način se dolazi do mogućih razlika u strukturi zrna ispitivanih hibrida kukuruza.

The existence of spectral bands varying in both, number and intensity and their shape, frequency and kinetics has been determined. Infrared spectral bands are determined by transmittance (%) and frequency (cm-1) of chemical bonds' valence oscillations and deformation oscillations in functional groups: alkanes, alkenes, alcines, alcohols, ethers, carboxylic acids, esters, aldehydes and ketones that are characteristic for biogenic compounds of carbohydrates, vitamins, pigments and dietary fibres. By analyzing IR spectral bands, conformational and functional properties of bio-genic compounds can be detected in grain of observed prestigious maize inbred lines.
AB  - U ovom radu razmatra se primena metode infracrvene spektroskopije pri istraživanju zrna elitnih inbred linija kukuruza radi utvrđivanja konformacionih i funkcionalnih svojstava zrna. Registrovani su infracrveni spektri zrna inbred linija kukuruza: ZPPL 186, ZPPL 225 i M1- 3-3 Sdms. Utvrđeno je da kod infracrvenih spektara postoje različite spektralne trake koje se međusobno razlikuju kako po svojoj brojnosti u spektru i po svom intenzitetu, tako i po svojem obliku, svojoj frekvenciji i svojoj kinetici. Svaka spektralna traka definisana je intenzitetom apsorpcije infracrvenog zračenja, tj. transmi-tancom u (%) i frekvencijom oscilacija u (cm-1) valentnih i deformacionih oscilacija hemijskih veza koje postoje kod sledećih funkcionalnih grupa: alkana, alkena, alkina, alkohola, etra, karboksilne kiseline, estra, aldehida i ketona. Te funkcionalne grupe su karakteristične za biogena jedinjenja iz sastava ugljovodonika, vitamina, pigmenata i dijetetskih vlakana. Analizirajući trake infracrvenih spektara mogu se dijagnostikovati konformaciona i funkcionalna svojstva zrna ispitivanih inbred linija kukuruza.
