AB  - High-quality seed is one of the key factors in the commercial maize grain production. In addition, hybrid seed production is conditioned by the production of basic seed of parental inbreds. According to the Law on Seed, 2005, the category of basic seed is defined as: original of self-pollinated plant species, hybrid components and potato elite, produced under control of the Ministry competent for agribusiness and is used for the production of certified seed of the first generation. This paper presents a chronological overview of the overall activity since1945. that led to the modern production of maize seed in our country. The activities have been based on scientific, technical and technological achievements within many fields, ranging from genetics and breeding, through growing practices, processing, quality control and legal regulations concerning all of this. Transition from maize breeding and production to hybrids has provided an amazing development of maize breeding and seed production and also included significant profit. Therefore, maize seed production has become high-technology industry. The scientific and professional work in improving the production of basic seed of ZP maize hybrids has been carried out in stages, and generally followed achievements in maize breeding and genetics, as well as developments in the growing practices and processing. In order to maintain a high quality of maize hybrid seed, as the end product, permanent efforts have to be invested into maize production improvement, drying, processing, storing, genetic purity of basic seed of parental inbreds of ZP maize hybrids, which are grown on the significant percentage of maize production areas not only in Serbia and countries in the region.
AB  - U procesu proizvodnje kukuruza jedan od ključnih činilaca je kvalitetno seme, bez kojeg nema ni kvalitetne proizvodnje merkantilnog zrna. Takođe proizvodnja hibridnog semena je uslovljena proizvodnjom osnovnog semena roditeljskih linija. Po zakonu o semenu iz 2005. godine definicija kategorije osnovnog semena glasi: Osnovno seme jeste original samooplodnih biljnih vrsta, komponente hibrida i elita krompira. Proizvodi se pod kontrolom ministarstva nadležnog za poslove poljoprivrede (u daljem tekstu: Ministarstvo), a koristi se za proizvodnju sertifikovanog semena prve generacije. U radu se izlaže hronološki pregled aktivnosti od 1945. do danas koje su dovele do savremene proizvodnje semena kukuruza kod nas, a koje se zasnivaju na naučno-tehničkim dostignućima iz brojnih oblasti, počevši od genetike i oplemenjivanja, preko tehnologije gajenja, dorade, kontrole kvaliteta i zakonske regulative koja sve ovo prati. Prelazak na hibridni koncept oplemenjivanja i proizvodnje kukuruza omogućio je, uz stvaranje značajnog profita, zadivljujući razvoj u oblasti oplemenjivanja i semenatrstva kukuruza, pa je semenarstvo kukuruza postalo industrija visoke tehnologije. Naučnostručni rad na unapređenju proizvodnje osnovnog semena ZP hibrida kukuruza odvijao se po etapama, i uglavnom je pratio dostignuća iz oplemenjivanja i genetike kukurza kao i dostignuća iz tehnologije gajenja i dorade. Kako bi se održao visok nivo kvaliteta hibridnog semena, kao krajnjeg proizvoda, moraju se ulagati kontinuirani napori i u unapređenje tehnologije proizvodnje, sušenja, dorade, skladištenja, genetičke čistoće, osnovnog semena roditeljskih linija ZP hibrida kukurza, koji zauzimaju značajan procenat proizvodnih površina kako Srbije tako i zemalja u regionu.

Thousand-seed weight in the theory and practice

AB  - Out of approximately 100 seed traits, 20 are of the marketing importance, and 10-15, including the 1000-seed weight (TSW) have been studied. There are many articles partially dealing with TSW in our literature related to the seed industry, but none of them is all-inclusive. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to determine: (1) a role, (2) factors of formation and (3) obtaining desirable TWS (DTWS). Germination, yield and trade depend on TWS, while TWS is interrelated with a dozen of other parameters, selection of sowing plates, determination of the amounts of seeds necessary for sowing (sowing rate) and the depth of sowing, and can be an indicator of some other seed or crop traits. TSW depends on inheritance and conditions and is interrelated with sowing, drying and processing. Individual factors of TSW are numerous and classified into two groups each with two subgroups: a) agro ecological (abiotic and biotic) and b) agro technological (cropping practices and processing). The species and variety, crop density and uniformity, irrigation regime and fertilization have the greatest impact on TSW, while the effects of soil tillage and weather conditions, except during pollination and maturing, are of less importance. Seed fractioning is crucial, but it is less performed in our country than world-wide. The desirable TSW (DTWS) is a term designating higher-quality, more homogenous and greater yield of seed units in the whole process of the seed production. It is necessary to analyze DTWS for all varieties in order to determine DTWS that will provide the highest yield of viable and uniform seeds per hectare. Labor rationalization and productivity require obtaining DTWS as high as possible in the filed and maintaining it in processing.
AB  - Od blizu sto osobina semena, 20 ima tržišni značaj, a 10-15 se ispituje, delom i masa 1.000 semena (MHS). U našoj semenarskoj literaturi uočen je znatan broj parcijalnih napisa o MHS, a ni jedan sveobuhvatan, što je cilj ovog rada. Ovde su utvrđeni: (1) uloga, (2) činioci formiranja i (3) dobijanje poželjne MHS. Od MHS zavisi klijavost, prinos i promet, MHS služi za dobijanje 15-tak drugih parametara, izbor sejnih ploča, određivanje količine semena za setvu (setvena norma) i dubine setve, a može biti indikator nekih drugih svojstava semena ili useva. MHS zavisi od nasleđa i uslova, a međuzavisna je sa setvom, sušenjem i doradom. Pojedinačni činioci MHS su brojni, a svrstani su u po 2 grupe i podgrupe: a) agroekološki (abiotički i biotički) i b) agrotehnološki (agrotehničke mere i dorada). Najveći uticaj na MHS imaju: vrsta i sorta, gustina i ujednačenost useva, vodni režim i đubrenje, a manji: obrada zemljišta i vremenske prilike, osim u oplođenju i zrenju. Kalibrisanje na fakcije semena je presudno, što se kod nas ređe radi nego u svetu. Poželjna MHS (Pmhs) je pojam za označavanje što kvalitetnijeg, homogenijeg i brojnijeg prinosa semenskih jedinki u celom procesu semenarstva. Potrebno je za sve sorte istražiti Pmhs, odnosno uslove koji daju najveći prinos vitalnih i ujednačenih semena u broju po hektaru. Racionalizacija i produktivnost rada podrazumevaju da se težište za dobijanje Pmhs prenese na njivu i ne zanemari u doradi.

Cereal test weight data in domestic breeders literature

AB  - Wheat kernel has hundreds of features, of which 20% are important for market while 10-15 are currently under investigation, including test weight (TW) of grains. Domestic literature data dealing area test weight is scarce, not containing any comprehensive study. Therefore, the paper was aimed to establish 1) the role of TW (important parameter when projecting storage facilities and equipment), 2) the importance of TW (higher TW is an element of marketing, sensory quality, price, acceptability' on market, 3) the forming factors: a) agro ecological (abiotic and biotic) and b) agro technological (agro technical, drying, processing), and 4) the principles of forming higher TW. There are numerous factors that affect test weight increase beside genomics and breeding; field choice, cultivation, optimal density in sowing, moderate maturing, irrigation, mild wind, high level of pollination, protection from, pests, heat shock, slow maturing, harvest before full maturity with combine, slow drying and thorough material cleaning. It would be useful to passes detailed data for each variety on conditions and technology that increase TW.
AB  - Seme, odnosno zrno ima oko stotinak svojstava, od kojih 20% ima značaj za tržište, dok se 10-15 zvanično ispituje, uključujući hektolitarsku masu zrna (HM) kod nekih žita. U domaćoj semenarskoj literaturi nađen je veći broj manjih napisa o HM, ali nema ni jedan koji je sveobuhvatan. Stoga je postavljen cilj da se utvrde: 1 ) uloga HM (parametar za gabarite skladišta i opreme i indikacija jedne do dve trećine poželjnih kvalitativno-kvantitativnih osobina zrna): 2) značaj (veća HM je element marketinga, organoleptičkog utiska, formiranja cene i prođe na tržištu), 3) činioci formiranja: a) agroekološki (ablotički i biotički) i b) agrotehnološki (agrotehničke mere i režim dosušivanja i dorade) i 4) principi proizvodnje što veće HM. Uslovi i mere za postizanje veće hektolitarske mase zrna/semena, osim nas l eda i oplemenjivanja, su različiti i prilično brojni: izbor bolje parcele, kvalitetna obrada zemljišta, optimalna gustina setve. umerene doze đubrenja, navodnjavanje, blaga vetrovitost, visok stepen oprašivanja i oplodnje, integralna zaštita od štetnih organizama, izbegnut toplotni udar, sporo sazrevanje i ubiranje regulisanim kombajnom u fiziološkoj zrelosti (pre punog zrenja), sporo dosušivanje i temeljnije prečišćavanje materijala. Bilo bi dobro za svaku proširenu sortu posedovati detaljne uslove i tehnologiju proizvodnje koja daje najveći prinos i veću HM po hektaru.
