AB  - In this paper the changes on growth, photosynthesis and water relations were tested by non-invasive fluorescence method. The applications of this method allow to determine some functional properties of prestigious maize inbred lines with erect top leaves. So the temperature dependency of delayed fluorescence intensity maximum of ZPPL 16 is observed at higher temperatures than for ZPPZ 62. This fact correlates with low values of phase transition of activation energy Ea in thylakoid membrane and accompanied by a decrease of the angle and area of the leaf, as well as with the content and the rate of water release from the seed. It seems reasonable to assume that, DF can be applied in breeding and maize hybrid seed production for the estimation of prestigious maize inbred lines and their resistance adaptability to increased and high temperatures, as well as, to drought.

AB  - Suša je glavni abioticki faktor, koji znacajno utice na smanjenje i kvalitetkonacnog prinosa zrna kod kukuruza. S obzirom na predvidanja globalnih klimatskihpromena za 21. vek, u pravcu povecanja temperature vazduha, vece evapotranspiracije iucestalije pojave suše, poboljšana sposobnost kukuruza da izdrži nepovoljne uslovespoljašnje sredine je esencijalna i zahteva multidisciplinarni pristup u proucavanjuosobina koje doprinose njegovoj povecanoj tolerantnosti prema stresu suše.Za potrebe savremene selekcije kukuruza za razlicite osobine (npr. tolerantnostprema suši), materijal koji se cuva u banci gena Instituta za kukuruz “Zemun Polje”, posvom obimu (5806 genotipova) i ogromnoj genetickoj varijabilnosti, pruža velikemogucnosti. Testiranje celokupnog genofonda na tolerantnost prema suši je izvršeno uuslovima kontrolisane suše u Egiptu, kao i u uslovima umerenog vodnog deficita uZemun Polju i Skoplju, grupisanjem genotipova po dužini vegetacije (po grupamazrenja), kako bi svi bili izloženi stresu suše u približno istoj fazi vegetacionog perioda.Identifikacija i odabir genotipova su vršeni pracenjem sekundarnih osobina relevantnihza stres suše (ASI-a - anthesis silking interval, jalovosti biljke, ozrnjenosti klipa,nalivenosti zrna i osobine stay green-a), na sva tri lokaliteta, i merenjem prinosa zrna /biljci u uslovima umerenog vodnog deficita.Pored dobrih per se performansi u poljskim uslovima, za odabir genotipovanajtolerantnijih prema stresu suše, kao buducih komponenti hibrida, bila je neophodnainformacija o pripadnosti genotipova odgovarajucim heteroticnim grupama na osnovuukrštanja sa korišcenim inbred testerima, poreklom iz tri heteroticne grupe - BSSS,Lancaster i nezavisne, kao i informacija o opštoj kombinacionoj sposobnosti ukrštanjagenotipova sa odabranim inbred testerima. Od izuzetnog znacaja je bilo izdvajanje 6genotipova kukuruza, koji su se dobro kombinovali sa sva tri korišcena heteroticnaizvora, cineci potencijalno nov, sasvim razlicit izvor poželjne germplazme. Na osnovudobijenih rezultata, formirana je core kolekcija za tolerantnost prema suši, koju cine 13domacih populacija, 13 introdukovanih populacija i 15 introdukovanih inbred linijakukuruza...
AB  - Drought is a major abiotic factor, which significantly decreases final grain yieldand its quality in maize. Predictions of global climate changes for 21st century, towardshigher air temperatures, greater evapotranspiration and more frequent occurrence ofdrought, emphasize the importance for improved maize ability to withstand adverseenvironmental conditions, and the necessity of employing the multidisciplinaryapproach for studying the characteristics that contribute to its increased droughttolerance.The material maintained within The MRI “Zemun Polje” gene bank, consideringits size (5806 genotypes) and huge genetic variability of the accessions, offers the greatopportunity for modern maize breeding for different purposes (e.g. drought tolerance).Field testing for drought tolerance was performed on the entire MRI gene bankcollection, subjected to controlled drought in Egypt, as well as to conditions ofmoderate water deficit in Zemun Polje and Skopje. In order to expose them to droughtstress at aproximately the same vegetative stage, grouping the accessions into differentmaturity groups (acording to the duration of their vegetative period), was necessary.Identification and selection of the most drought tolerant genotypes was performed byvisual scoring of drought related secondary traits (ASI - anthesis silking interval,barrenness, seed set, grain filling and stay-green) at each location, and by measuringyield / plant under moderate water deficit conditions.Besides good performances per se in field, the information on combining abilityof selected material, in order to classify it into heterotic groups, was necessary to formthe core. Therefore, the most drought tolerant genotypes were crossed to three inbredtesters from heterotic groups that mutually combined well (BSSS, Lancaster andindependent source). It is very important that 6 genotypes had a good combining abilitywith all three observed heterotic sources, making them a new, completely differentsource of favourable germplasm. Obtained results revealed the formation of corecollection for drought tolerance, comprising 13 local populations, 13 introducedpopulations and 15 introduced maize inbred lines...

AB  - This study confirmed our hypothesis that new maize inbred lines and hybrids derived from them had a dominant property of an efficient photosynthetic model. This property is successfully used in breeding programmes, modern technologies of the seed, and commercial maize production. This statement is supported by the results displayed on the erect position of the top leaves of new maize inbred lines and photosynthetic and florescence parameters: the change of the delayed chlorophyll fluorescence intensity during its course and dynamics, the Arrhenius criterion for the determination of critical temperatures (phase transition temperatures) and the activation energies, as a measure of conformational changes in chloroplasts and the thylakoid membrane. Furthermore, a grain structure including its physical and chemical parameters of new maize inbred lines and hybrids was analysed in the present study. In addition, relevant breeding, seed production and technological traits, properties and parameters of new maize inbred lines and maize hybrids were observed in the present study. The overall presented results show that properties of new inbred lines and maize hybrids are based on the nature of conformational and functional changes that occur in their chloroplasts and thylakoid membranes, as well as, on progressive effects in modern breeding, contemporary hybrid seed production, and the commercial maize production.
AB  - Proučavane su dve nove inbred linije kukuruza: ZPPL 218 i ZPPL 318 i sa njima stvoreni perspektivni hibridi ZP 600, ZP 606 i ZP 666 za koje je dokazano da poseduju dominantno svojstvo efikasnog fotosintetičnog modela što se uspešno koristi u oplemenjivanju, savremenim tehnologijama za proizvodnju hibridnog semena i merkantilnog kukuruza. Ovoj konstataciji idu u prilog izloženi rezultati o uspravnom položaju vršnih listova novih inbred linija kukuruza i o fotosintetično-fluorescentnim pokazateljima: promeni intenziteta zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila u njenom toku i dinamici, Arenijusovom kriterijumu za određivanje kritičnih temperatura (temperature faznih prelaza) i o energiji aktivacije kao meri strukturnih promena u hloroplastima i tilakoidnoj membrani. U radu se analizira struktura zrna uključujući i njegove fizičke i hemijske pokazatelje novih inbred linija i hibrida kukuruza. Isto tako, u radu se razmatraju relevantna selekcionarska, semenarska i tehnološka svojstva, karakteristike i parametri novih inbred linija i hibrida kukuruza. Ukupno izloženi rezultati pokazuju da su svojstva novih inbred linija i hibrida kukuruza zasnovana na prirodi strukturnih i funkcionalnih promena, koje se odigravaju u hloroplastima i tilakoidnoj membrani kao i na progresivnim efektima u modernom oplemenjivanju, savremenoj proizvodnji hibridnog semena i merkantilnog kukuruza.

AB  - Broad genetic variability of starting biological material is crucial prerequisite for the successful breeding program. Maize Research Institute, owning Gene bank with more than 6,000 accessions consisted of the local and introduced collection, has the opportunity for the investigation both fundamental genetic processes, pre-breeding and breeding for commercial purposes. To search for new sources of maize drought tolerance Gene bank accessions were scored visually on stay-green phenotype and total appearance. More than 50 genotypes have been identified as a potential source for drought tolerance. Besides breeding on improved storage protein quality decreasing of phytate content in kernel is also under the consideration, because the most phosphorous is bound in phytate. In breeding program it is desirable to have genotypes with higher content of available phosphorous (P) not bound in phytate. Among 60 analyzed populations from Gene bank only one has been determined to have very low phytate content and will be used in maize breeding program on low phytate in kernel. Process of maize breeding, to get high yielding hybrids, begins by the genetic variability determination of starting breeding material, either populations or selected inbred lines. Genetic divergence of parental inbred lines is main step to get high heterotic effect in yield after crossing. Use of different molecular markers allowed cluster analysis by use of UPGMA methods and select high number of genotypes to be included in crossing process.

AB  - This study conforms the hypothesis that there are elite maize inbred lines and hybrids with erect top leaves, which have a dominant property of an efficient photosynthetic and fluorescent model, that is successfully used in modern breeding programmes and the production of hybrid seed and commercial maize. This statement is supported by the displayed results on the erect position of the top leaves, the dynamics of grain dry-down during the maturation period and photosynthetic and florescence parameters: the temperature dependence of the delayed chlorophyll fluorescence intensity, the Arrhenius criterion for the determination of critical temperatures (phase transition temperatures) and the activation energies. The presented results show that properties of observed maize inbreeds and their hybrids are based on the nature of conformational and functional changes that occur in their thylakoid membranes and other chemical structures of tissues of grain and intact leaves, as well as, on positive effects in maize breeding.
AB  - U ovom radu potvrđuje se naša hipoteza da postoje elitne inbred linije kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova koje poseduju dominantno svojstvo efikasnog fotosintetično-fluorescentnog modela, te da se, kao takve, mogu uspešno koristiti u savremenim programima oplemenjivanja i proizvodnje hibridnog semena kukuruza. Ovoj konstataciji idu u prilog izloženi rezultati o uspravnom položaju vršnih listova prestižnih linija kukuruza, dinamici otpuštanja vode iz zrna u periodu sazrevanja i o fotosintetično-fluorescentnim pokazateljima: temperaturnoj zavisnosti intenziteta zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila, Arenijusovom kriterijumu za određivanje kritičnih temperatura (temperature faznih prelaza) i o energiji aktivacije. Ukupno izloženi rezultati pokazuju da su svojstva prestižnih inbred linija kukuruza zasnovana na prirodi strukturnih i funkcionalnih promena, koje se odigravaju u njihovim tilakoidnim membranama i drugim hemijskim strukturama tkiva intaktnog lista i zrna, kao i na pozitivnim efektima u oplemenjivanju kukuruza.

AB  - This study confirms the hypothesis that there are new elite maize inbred lines and prospective hybrids, which have a dominant property of an efficient photosynthetic model that is successfully used in breeding programmes, modern technologies of the seed and commercial maize production. This statement is supported by the displayed results on the erect position of the top leaves of new maize inbred lines and photosynthetic and florescence parameters: the change of the delayed chlorophyll fluorescence intensity during its course and dynamics, the Arrhenius criterion for the determination of critical temperatures (phase transition temperatures) and the activation energies, as a measure of conformational changes in chloroplasts the thylakoid membrane. Furthermore, a grain structure, including its physical and chemical parameters, of new maize inbred lines was analysed in the present study. Also, relevant breeding, seed production and technological traits, properties and parameters of new inbred lines and prospective maize hybrids were observed in the present study. The presented results show that properties of new inbred lines and prospective maize hybrids are based on the nature of conformational and functional changes that occur in their chloroplasts and thylakoid membranes, as well as, on progressive effects in maize breeding, modern hybrid seed production and the commercial maize production.
AB  - U ovom radu vršena su proučavanja novih elitnih inbred linija kukuruza: ZPPL 218 i ZPPL 318 i perspektivnih hibrida kukuruza ZP 600, ZP 606 i ZP 666 stvorenih iz njih. Pokazano je da se potvrđuje naša hipoteza da nove elitne inbred linije i perspektivni hibridi kukuruza poseduju dominantno svojstvo efikasnog fotosintetičnog modela što se uspešno koristi u oplemenjivanju, savremenim tehnologijama proizvodnje hibridnog semena i merkantilnog kukuruza. Ovoj konstataciji idu u prilog izloženi rezultati o uspravnom položaju vršnih listova novih inbred linija kukuruza i o fotosintetički-fluorescentnim pokazateljima: promeni intenziteta zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila u njenom toku i dinamici, Arenijusovom kriterijumu za određivanje kritičnih temperature (temperature faznih prelaza) i o energiji aktivacije kao meri strukturnih promena u hloroplastima i tilakoidnoj membrani. U radu se analiziraju struktura zrna uključujući i njegove fizičke i hemijske pokazatelje novih inbred linija kukuruza. Isto tako, u radu se razmatraju relevantna selekcionarska, semenarska i tehnološka svojstva, karakteristike i parametri novih inbred linija i perspektivnih hibrida kukuruza. AB  - Proučavane su četiri prestižne inbred linije kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova: ZPPL 16, ZPPL 218, ZPPL 62 i ZPPL 233. Ove linije su, kao majka ili otac, uključene u stvaranje više od 50 hibrida kukuruza. U tekućem srednjeročnom periodu široku komercijalnu primenu našao je veći broj hibrida kukuruza: ZP 341, ZP 360, ZP 434, ZP 578, ZP 606, ZP 677, ZP 684 i drugi. U ovom radu analizirani su samo reprezentativni hibridi kukuruza: ZP 341 (FAO 300), ZP 434 (FAO 400), ZP 578 (FAO 500) i ZP 684 (FAO 600). Ovim radom potvrđuje se naša hipoteza da postoje elitne inbred linije i hibridi kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova, koji poseduju dominantno svojstvo efikasnog fotosintetično-fluorescentnog modela i uspešno se koriste u savremenim programima oplemenjivanja, proizvodnji hibridnog semena i merkantilnog kukuruza. Ovaj zaključak dobijen je uz primenu neinvazivnog fotosintetično-fluorescentnog metoda pogodnog za ocenu efikasnosti fotomodela. Dobijene fotosintetične karakteristike proučavanih prestižnih inbred linija kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova zasnovane su na efektima i prirodi promena zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila koje se odigravaju u njihovim tilakoidnim membranama, čiji su pokazatelji temperaturna zavisnost intenziteta zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila, Arenijusov kriterijum za utvrđivanje kritičnih temperatura (temperature faznih prelaza) u tilakoidnim membranama i energije aktivacije. Izloženi rezultati o veličini ugla između pravca prostiranja prvog lista iznad klipa i pravca prostiranja stabljike, kao i rezultati o dinamici oslobađanja vode iz zrna u periodu njegovog sazrevanja dodatno pokazuju da su svojstva proučavanih inbred linija kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova pogodni kriterijumi za egzaktniji, racionalniji i brži proces oplemenjivanja. Takođe su analizirana i druga relevantna selekciona i semenarska svojstva proučavanih prestižnih inbred linija i hibrida kukuruza (kvalitet merkantilnog kukuruza preko strukture zrna, fizičkih i hemijskih parametara).

Dobijene fotosintetične karakteristike proučavanih prestižnih inbred linija kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova zasnovane su na efektima i prirodi promena zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila koje se odigravaju u njihovim tilakoidnim membranama, čiji su pokazatelji temperaturna zavisnost intenziteta zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila, Arenijusov kriterijum za utvrđivanje kritičnih temperatura (temperature faznih prelaza) u tilakoidnim membranama i energije aktivacije. Izloženi rezultati o veličini ugla između pravca prostiranja prvog lista iznad klipa i pravca prostiranja stabljike, kao i rezultati o dinamici oslobađanja vode iz zrna u periodu njegovog sazrevanja dodatno pokazuju da su svojstva proučavanih inbred linija kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova pogodni kriterijumi za egzaktniji, racionalniji i brži proces oplemenjivanja. Takođe su analizirana i druga relevantna selekciona i semenarska svojstva proučavanih prestižnih inbred linija i hibrida kukuruza (kvalitet merkantilnog kukuruza preko strukture zrna, fizičkih i hemijskih parametara).",

AB  - Field testing for drought tolerance was performed on 6,000 accessions from the Maize Research Institute gene bank, under severe drought conditions in Egypt, as well as, under moderate climate conditions in Zemun Polje and Skopje. Five inbred lines, considered as drought tolerant, were chosen for further investigations under controlled experimental conditions. Osmotic stress caused by drought is one of the most important abiotic stresses. In this study osmotic stress was applied with polyethylene glycol (PEG) 10 000. The response to the PEG treatment of these genotypes was analysed in respect to their root morphology, root length, root fresh and dry weight, proline content and peroxidase activity. Results showed that the root development was less in all genotypes under the PEG treatment. The proline content increased, while the peroxidase activity declined in PEG-treated plants.
AB  - Suša je jedan od najznačajnijih abiotičkih faktora, koji značajno utiče na smanjenje konačnog prinosa zrna kod kukuruza. Predviđanja globalnih klimatskih promena za XXI vek idu u pravcu povećanja temperature vazduha, veće evapotranspiracije i učestalije pojave suše. Za selekciju kukuruza danas, kao i u doglednoj budućnosti, izvori poželjnih svojstava koji se nalaze u bankama gena biće od velikog značaja. Materijal koji se čuva u banci gena Instituta za kukuruz, po obimu i sadržaju, pruža velike mogućnosti. Na osnovu ispitivanja tolerantnosti na sušu kod 6.000 uzoraka iz banke gena Instituta za kukuruz u poljskim uslovima umerenog (Zemun Polje i Skoplje) i aridnog klimata (Egipat), odabrano je pet inbred linija, okarakterisanih kao tolerantne, za dalja ispitivanja u kontrolisanim laboratorijskim uslovima. Linije pripadaju različitim FAO grupama zrenja (A5 - FAO 400 i A1, A2, A3 i A4 - FAO 500). Osmotski stres izazvan sušom je jedan od najznačajnijih abiotičkih faktora. U ovom radu je ispitivan efekat polietilen glikola (PEG) 10.000, kao osmotikuma, na rast korena klijanaca. Merena je dužina, sveža i suva masa korena, određivan je sadržaj prolina u korenu i merena je aktivnost antioksidativnih enzima. Rezultati ispitivanja pokazuju smanjenje porasta korenovog sistema, povećanje sadržaja prolina, kao i smanjenje specifične aktivnosti peroksidaza kod svih tretmana u odnosu na kontrolnu varijantu, kao odgovor na primenjeni osmotski stres. Naredna istraživanja vezana za odgovor biljke na osmotski stres bi uključila i nadzemni deo klijanaca, kao i molekularnu karakterizaciju genotipova tolerantnih prema suši. Odabrani genotipovi poslužiće za formiranje core kolekcije koja će u sebi sadržati ovo svojstvo i biti osnova u programima oplemenjivanja kukuruza.

AB  - The activities of antioxidative enzymes and contents of proline and total phenolics were assayed in roots of two maize (Zea mays L.) genotypes grown in a medium containing nitrate (NO3 (-)) or both nitrogen forms, nitrate and ammonium (NH4 (+)/NO3 (-)). An increase in the activities of class III peroxidases (POD), superoxide dismutase (SOD), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), ascorbate oxidase (AO) and proline content, and decrease in phenolic content were observed in NH4 (+)/NO3 (-) in comparison with NO3 (-) grown plants. When polyethylene glycol (PEG) was added to both nitrogen treatments, the content of total phenolics and proline was increased, especially in NH4 (+)/NO3 (-) treatment. The PEG treatment decreased enzyme activities in NH4 (+)/NO3 (-) grown plants, but in NO3 (-) grown plants activities of POD and SOD were increased, opposite to decreased APX and AO. Isoelectric focusing demonstrated increased activities of acidic POD isoforms in PEG treated NO3 (-) grown plants, and lower activities of both, acidic and basic isoforms in NH4 (+)/NO3 (-)grown plants.

AB  - This study conforms the hypothesis that there are elite maize inbred lines with erect top leaves that have a property of an efficient photosynthetic model and that as such are successfully used in the processes of breeding in which the number of plants is increased per area unit (plant density). This proof was established by the application of non- invasive photosynthetic-fluorescence method suitable for the evaluation of the efficiency of the photosynthetic model. The obtained photosynthetic and fluorescence properties of observed prestigious maize inbred lines with the erect top leaves are based on the effects and the nature of changes in chlorophyll fluorescence occurring in their thylakoid membranes. Their principal parameters are temperature dependence of the chlorophyll delayed fluorescence intensity, the Arrhenius plot for the determination of the phase transition in thylakoid membranes and the estimated activation energies. The displayed results on the size of an angle between the direction of the propagation of the above-ear leaf and the direction of the stalk propagation, as well as, results on the dynamics of grain dry-down during the maturation period, additionally indicate that traits of observed maize inbred lines with erect top leaves are the prominent base for more exact, rational and faster proceeding of current processes of breeding.
AB  - Proučavane su tri prestižne inbred linije kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova: ZPPL 16, ZPPL 218, ZPPL 62. Ove linije su, bilo kao majka, bilo kao otac uključene u stvaranju više od 45 hibrida kukuruza. Međutim, u ovom srednjeročnom periodu, široku komercijalnu primenu ima više od deset hibrida kukuruza: ZP-341, ZP-360, ZP-434, ZP-578, ZP-606, ZP-677, ZP-684 i drugi.Ovim radom potvrđena je hipoteza da elitne inbred linije kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova imaju svojstvo efikasnog fotosintetičnog modela i da se, kao takve, u procesu oplemenjivanja uspešno koriste pri povećavanju broja biljaka na jedinici površine (gustina biljaka). Ovaj dokaz ostvaren je uz primenu neinvazivnog fotosintetično-fluorescentnog metoda pogodnog za ocenu efikasnosti foto modela. AB  - The following three prestigious maize inbred lines with erect top leaves: ZPPL 16, ZPPL 218 and ZPPL 62 were observed in this study. Each of these inbreds, either as a female or a male component, was included into the development of over 45 maize hybrids. However, maize hybrids ZP 431, ZP 434, ZP 578 and ZP 684 are widely commercially used in this medium-term period. This study conforms the hypothesis that there are elite maize inbred lines with erect top leaves and hybrids derived from them that have a dominant property of an efficient photosynthetic-fluorescence model that is successfully used in breeding and production technologies of hybrid seed and commercial maize. The presented results on the position of top leaves, increased density, dynamics of grain dry down, quality of hybrid and commercial maize and on photosynthetic and fluorescence parameters: temperature dependence on the chlorophyll delayed fluorescence intensity, Arrhenius plot for the determination of critical temperatures (phase transition temperatures) and activation energies, show that the properties of observed inbred lines and their maize hybrids are based on positive effects and the nature of structural and functional changes that occur in their thylakoid membranes and other chemical structures of grain and leaf tissues. Furthermore, other relevant breeding and seed production properties of observed prestigious maize inbred lines and hybrids derived from them were analyzed (dependence of yields on densities and quality of commercial maize on the structure of grain and physical and chemical properties).
AB  - U ovom radu potvrđuje se naša hipoteza da postoje elitne samooplodne linije i sa njima stvoreni hibridi kukuruza, sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova, koje poseduju dominantno svojstvo efikasnog fotosintetično-fluorescentnog modela što se uspešno koristi u oplemenjivanju, savremenim tehnologijama proizvodnje hibridnog semena i merkatilnog kukuruza. Izloženi rezultati o uspravnom položaju vršnih listova, povećanoj gustini, dinamici otpuštanja vode iz zrna u periodu sazrevanja, kvalitetu semena hibridnog i merkantilnog kukuruza i o fotosintetično-fluorescentnim pokazateljima: temperaturnoj zavisnosti intenziteta zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila, Arenijusovom kriterijumu za određivanje kritičnih temperatura (temperature faznih prelaza) i energija aktivacije, pokazuju da su svojstva proučavanih linija i njihovih hibrida kukuruza zasnovana na pozitivnim efektima i prirodi strukturnih i funkcionalnih promena, koje se odigravaju u njihovim tilakoidnim membranama i drugim hemijskim strukturama tkiva zrna i lista. U radu se analiziraju i druge relevantne selekcione i semenarske karakteristike proučavanih prestižnih samooplodnih linija kukuruza i sa njima stvorenih hibrida kukuruza (zavisnost prinosa od gustine i kvalitet merkantilnog kukuruza preko strukture zrna i fizičkih i hemijskih parametara).

Genotype by environment interaction in maize breeding

AB  - Because proximity measures occur in pairs where both, similarity and dissimilarity measures exploit the same type of information, companion classification and ordination techniques can be applied. They complement each other in analysis of genotype by environment interaction (GxE) data. Choice of method, companion diagnostics and graphical presentation are required within each of methodologies. By clustering of 12 genotypes into 5 groups, 96.26% of variability for genotypes contained in original data is kept. By applying same analysis for environments, 96.45% of variability contained in original data matrix is kept with grouping of 31 environments into 11 groups. Caused by genotypes and environments grouping 78.10% of GxE variability contained in original data matrix remained in analysis of such two-way reduced data. Based on shown results, it is not possible to define smaller growing regions. Clustering of environment can be useful not only for defining mega environments but also for smaller growing regions defining only in combination with some of additional analysis (AMMI, discrimination analysis, correspondent analysis etc.). In such kind of analysis experience of investigator would be of great importance. Choice of test sites for breeding programme can be made based on obtained grouping to a limited extent (rather for restructuring existing test sites network in order to obtain 'better' information with same number of test sites then for its rationalization with number of test sites decreasing).
AB  - Kako se mere sličnosti i različitosti uvek javljaju u paru, i kako obe koriste isti tip informacije, moguće je istovremeno primeniti združene tehnike klasifikacije i ordinacije. One dopunjuju jedna drugu u analizi interakcije genotipa i spoljašnje sredine. Izbor metoda, dijagnostike i grafičkog predstavljanja se pojavljuje kao zahtev u okviru svake od metodologija. Grupisanjem 12 genotipova u pet grupa, 96.26% varijabilnosti sadržane u originalnim podacima je sadržano. Primenom iste analize za spoljašnje sredine, 96.45% varijabilnosti je zadržano u analizi grupisanjem 31 spoljašnje sredine u 11 grupa. Usled ovakvog grupisanje 78.10% interakcijske varijabilnosti sadržane u originalnoj matrici je zadržano u analizi ovako dvostruko redukovanih podataka. Na osnovu iznetih rezultata nije moguće jasno definisanje manjih regiona gajenja. Grupisanje spoljašnjih sredina može biti korisno ne samo za definisanje velikih regiona gajenja, već i manjih, samo u kombinaciji primenjene metodologije sa nekim dodatnim analizama (AMMI, Diskriminaciona analiza, korespodenciona analiza itd.). U takvim analizama, iskustvo istraživača je od velikog značaja. Na osnovu iznetih rezultata, izbor test lokacija može biti učinjen u ograničenoj meri (pre u smislu restruktuiranja mreže ogleda u cilju dobijanja pouzdanijih informacija nego njenoj racionalizaciji u smislu smanjenja broja lokacija).
