AB  - In the last decade, neonicotinoid insecticides have been actively used to protect plants from pests. Moreover, their effect on the plants, in particular on the state of photosynthetic pig-ments, has been studied paucity. In the present work, it was shown for the first time that treatment of maize (Zea maysL.) leaves with a thiamethoxam (TMX) insecticide leads to a decrease in the functional activity of photosystem II and a decrease in the energyzation of thylakoid membranes. In addition, the effect of thiamethoxam depends on the genotype of maize. The aim of the work was to study the effect of thiamethoxam pesticide on photosynthetic pigments and the photochemical activi-ty of the photosynthetic apparatus of maize leaves of two genotypes. The experiments were carried out in 2018-2019.The object of the study was samples of maize leaves of the inbred line zppl 225 and  hybrid  zp  341  with  high  rates  of  germination,  grain  quality  and  yield  (Institut  za  kukuruz “Zemun Polje”, Belgrade, Serbia). The seeds were germinated until the roots appeared (length not less than 5mm),after which they were planted in the soil (vermiculite:chernozem mixture, 1:1) and grown under 16-hour daylight at a constant temperature of 25 С. When the third trueleaf appeared (more than 4 cm in length), the plants were sprayed with a TMX solution at a concentration of 0.2 mg/l.  Plants  grown  under  similar  conditions  without  TMX  spraying  were  used  as  controls.  The measurements were carried out when the fifth true leaf reached a size of 12-14 cm.The content of photosynthetic pigments (chlorophyll a, b and carotenoids) was determined spectrophotometrically in 100% acetone extract and calculated using the Holm-Wetstein formula. A change in the confor-mation of carotenoid molecules was recorded by Raman spectroscopy.Light-induced kinetics of prompt fluorescence (PF), delayed fluorescence (DF) and modulated reflection at = 820 nm (MR) were recorded simultaneously using a multifunctional plant efficiency analyzer M-PEA-2 (Hansatech Instruments, Great Britain). PF induction curves (OJIP curves) were analyzed using a standard JIP-test. It was found that in the phase of the fifth true leaf, in the inbred line zppl 225, the chlorophyll content in the presence of TMX decreased from 0.74 to 0.61 mg/g: the amount of chlorophyll a decreased by 17 %, chlorophyll b by 24 %. In contrast, no changes in pigment composition were detected in the leaves of the zp 341 hybrid when exposed to TMX. The OJIP curves of the control and TMX-treated leaves had a typical curve with characteristic O-J, J-I, and I-P phases, which re-flected the processes of sequential reduction of carriers in the electron transport chain of photosyn-thesis (ETC) between two photosystems. The effect of the pesticide onthe leaves of two maize geno-types was manifested in a decrease in the functional state of photosystem II, determined by the fluo-rescence parameter (PIABS), which was obtained based on the analysis of OJIP curves using the JIP-test. Comparison of PIABSin the control and under the influence of TMX revealed statistically sig-
67nificant (p < 0.05) differences: in the leaves of zppl 225 and zp 341 samples treated with TMX, the PIABSparameter decreased by 29 and 24%, respectively. Changes in the fast phase of delayed fluo-rescence, associated with a decrease in the energyzation of the thylakoid membrane upon exposure to TMX, were detected in the leaves of maize. An analysis of the maximum oxidation and reduction rates of P700 (MR kinetics) indicates a decrease in the acceptor pool on the acceptor side of PSI in zppl 225 leaves when exposed to TMX. It was found that the reaction centers (RCs) of PSI zp 341 showed resistance to TMX (no change in the redox transformations of P700). TMX caused changes in the conformation of carotenoid molecules, but did not change their content in the leaf. The pro-posed combination of methods for prompt fluorescence, delayed fluorescence, modulated reflection at = 820 nm and Raman spectroscopy can be the basis for the formation of an effective technology for the diagnosis of early defects of photosynthetic pigments when pesticides enter an intact plant.

AB  - In this article we used the method of IR spectroscopy to identify bioactive organic compounds and
their structural characteristics in the leaves of maize inbred lines ZPPL 186, ZPPL 225 and M1-3-3 Sdms
based on a standard study of high intensity high-amplitude spectral bands and based on attempt-study of
hypothetically influential low intensity low-amplitude spectral bands. The made assumption was that numerous
spectral bands, not analyzed yet, but occurring in different kinetic forms should be systematically analyzed
and the dynamics of their formation caused by different oscillations and vibrations of molecular bonds
of organic compounds and their functional groups should be proven. Low intensity spectral bands imply
unstable state of the biological system (leaf), which is a consequence of the excited state of molecules, radicals,
atoms or ions in tissues, cells or biomembranes. Similar transport processes occur when biological systems
are rhythmically stimulated, as well as in the case of a complex ion transport across the excited thylakoid
membrane. These bands most frequently occurred in the wave number range of 500–1600 cm–1; they
appeared in several spots in wave number ranges up to 3000 cm–1. Amines, primary and secondary amides,
proteins, amino acids, alkanes, alkenes, aldehydes, ketones, aromatic compounds, carbohydrates, carboxylic
acids, ethers, alcohols, sulfides, mono- and polysaccharides were identified in leaves of inbred lines. The
analysis of spectral bands showed that the most intensive was the inbred line ZPPL 186, then the ZPPL M1-3-3
Sdms, while the lowest intensity was detected in ZPPL 225. Thus, by overall study it is possible to identify not
only organic compounds and their structures in leaves of inbred lines, but also to indicate the possibility of
causing an unstable and conformational state in them.

AB  - The nature, role, and significance of low intensity spectral bands con-tained within the infrared spectra of kernels of high-yielding maize hybrids: ZP 341, ZP 434, and ZP 505 were observed in this study. The observations were performed to identify or-ganic molecules and their structural properties. The occurrence of unstable state of organic compounds and their functional groups are conditioned by such a process. The set hypoth-esis holds that there is a necessity to study the existence of many and low intensity spectral bands, not observed so far, occurring in different patterns (low intensity bands, single or grouped). They should be observed and the dynamics of their formation, caused by their different movements, including the possibility of their cancellation or amplification, should be explained. Such spectral bands most often appear in the wave number range of 400–950 cm-1. They occur in several wave numbers up to 3,000 cm-1 and are caused by different types of vibration movements (valence and deformation vibrations) of organic compounds and their functional groups: primary, secondary, and tertiary amides, proteins, free amino acids, alkanes, alkenes, aldehydes, ketones, aromatic compounds, cellulose, carbohydrates, car-boxylic acids, ethers, and alcohols. An unbiased analysis of low intensity spectral bands of maize hybrid kernels reveals that their occurrence is similar. Small differences, for some cases of the occurrence of low intensity spectral bands, can barely be ascertained. In this way, it is possible to establish not only the chemical composition of organic compounds of kernels of observed maize hybrids, but also it is possible to indicate their unstable, confor-mational, and functional properties.
AB  - У овом раду чини се покушај изучавања природе, улоге и значаја слабо развијених спектралних трака, садржаних у инфрацрвеним спектрима зрна високоприносних хибрида кукуруза: ZP 341, ZP 434 и ZP 505. Ова проучавања вршена су ради идентификације органских молекула и утврђивања њихових структурних карактеристика. Оваквим процесом условљава се појава нестабилног стања органских једињења и њихових функционалних група. Износи се хипотеза да се постојање бројних и слабо развијених спектралних трака, које до сада нису изучаване, а које се појављују у различитој форми (слабог интензитета), појављују појединачно или груписано. Њих је неопходно посебно изучавати и објашња-вати динамику њиховог настајања условљавану различитим карактером њиховог кретања, што укључује и могућност њиховог потирања или увећавања. Овакве спек   тралне траке најчешће се појављују у опсегу таласног броја од 400 до 950 cm-1. Оне се успостављају, ту и тамо, на више места таласног броја све до 3.000 cm-1, а настају различитим карактером вибрационог кретања (валенционо осциловање и деформационо вибрирање) органских једињења и функционалних група и то: примарни, секундарни и терцијарни амиди, протеин, слободне аминокисeлине, алкани, алкени, алдехиди, кетони, ароматична једињења, целулоза, угљоводони ци, карбоксилне киселине, етри и алкохоли. Непристрасном анализом слабо разви  је  них спектралних трака зрна три проучавана хибрида кукуруза стиче се сазнање да је њихово појављивање слично. Мање разлике, за неке случајеве појављивања слабих спектралних трака, једва да се могу констатовати. На овај начин, могуће је утврди-ти не само структуру органских једињења у зрну проучаваних хибрида кукуруза, него и указати на њихова нестабилна, конформациона и функционална стања.

Непристрасном анализом слабо разви  је  них спектралних трака зрна три проучавана хибрида кукуруза стиче се сазнање да је њихово појављивање слично. Мање разлике, за неке случајеве појављивања слабих спектралних трака, једва да се могу констатовати. На овај начин, могуће је утврди-ти не само структуру органских једињења у зрну проучаваних хибрида кукуруза, него и указати на њихова нестабилна, конформациона и функционална стања.",

AB  - Modern biophysical methods have provided a breakthrough in investigations of the status and functions of the intact plants at the molecular level. The infrared (IR) spectroscopy allows us to analyze the molecular composition and structure by recording the absorption of infrared radiation as a function of frequency of valent and deformation vibrations (wavenumber, cm-1) for chemical bonds. We used the IR Fourier spectroscopy method (IR spectra with Fourier Transformation,) to investigated the grain composition in maize hybrids - ZP 341, ZP 434 and ZP 505 created at Maize Research Institute (Zemun Polje, Belgrade, Serbia). The resulted spectra differed in peak number and intensity, and in oscillation frequency. Particularly, there are 20 to 23 peaks and characteristic spectral bands within the wavenumber range of 400 to 4000 cm-1. Characteristic spectral bands were analyzed for each hybrid with regard to absorption intensity in %, experimentally determined wavenumber in cm-1, and published wavenumber range. A comparison of these peaks to reference IR spectra from databases revealed biogenic organic molecules: alcohols, amines, esters, alkanes, carboxylic acids, alkenes, aldehydes, ketones and esters in the studied grain hybrids. In a typical IR spectrum of maize hybrid ZP 341 there were three most distinct bands with wavenumbers of 3400, 2900 and 1000 cm-1. Four peaks (3400, 2950, 1700 and 1000 cm-1) were characteristic of the ZP 434 hybrid, and eight major peaks of 3400, 2900, 2850, 1750, 1700, 1450, 1150 and 1000 cm-1 were observed in ZP 505. That is, the grain charterisics in ZP 505 slightly differ from those in ZP 341 and ZP 434, whereas in ZP 341 and ZP 434 the grain structure is more similar. In general, Serbian hybrids are characterized by high quality, productivity and technological suitability. The developed methodology for IR spectra recording and analysis in grain allows to reveal the composition and structure of biogenic compounds. It is important not only for diagnosis and breeding, but also for the development of biotechnological screening methods, or the estimation of grain storage time.

Importance of permanent improvement of production and control of basic seed of ZP maize hybrids

AB  - High-quality seed is one of the key factors in the commercial maize grain production. In addition, hybrid seed production is conditioned by the production of basic seed of parental inbreds. According to the Law on Seed, 2005, the category of basic seed is defined as: original of self-pollinated plant species, hybrid components and potato elite, produced under control of the Ministry competent for agribusiness and is used for the production of certified seed of the first generation. This paper presents a chronological overview of the overall activity since1945. that led to the modern production of maize seed in our country. The activities have been based on scientific, technical and technological achievements within many fields, ranging from genetics and breeding, through growing practices, processing, quality control and legal regulations concerning all of this. Transition from maize breeding and production to hybrids has provided an amazing development of maize breeding and seed production and also included significant profit. Therefore, maize seed production has become high-technology industry. The scientific and professional work in improving the production of basic seed of ZP maize hybrids has been carried out in stages, and generally followed achievements in maize breeding and genetics, as well as developments in the growing practices and processing. In order to maintain a high quality of maize hybrid seed, as the end product, permanent efforts have to be invested into maize production improvement, drying, processing, storing, genetic purity of basic seed of parental inbreds of ZP maize hybrids, which are grown on the significant percentage of maize production areas not only in Serbia and countries in the region.
AB  - U procesu proizvodnje kukuruza jedan od ključnih činilaca je kvalitetno seme, bez kojeg nema ni kvalitetne proizvodnje merkantilnog zrna. Takođe proizvodnja hibridnog semena je uslovljena proizvodnjom osnovnog semena roditeljskih linija. Po zakonu o semenu iz 2005. godine definicija kategorije osnovnog semena glasi: Osnovno seme jeste original samooplodnih biljnih vrsta, komponente hibrida i elita krompira. Proizvodi se pod kontrolom ministarstva nadležnog za poslove poljoprivrede (u daljem tekstu: Ministarstvo), a koristi se za proizvodnju sertifikovanog semena prve generacije. U radu se izlaže hronološki pregled aktivnosti od 1945. do danas koje su dovele do savremene proizvodnje semena kukuruza kod nas, a koje se zasnivaju na naučno-tehničkim dostignućima iz brojnih oblasti, počevši od genetike i oplemenjivanja, preko tehnologije gajenja, dorade, kontrole kvaliteta i zakonske regulative koja sve ovo prati. Prelazak na hibridni koncept oplemenjivanja i proizvodnje kukuruza omogućio je, uz stvaranje značajnog profita, zadivljujući razvoj u oblasti oplemenjivanja i semenatrstva kukuruza, pa je semenarstvo kukuruza postalo industrija visoke tehnologije. Naučnostručni rad na unapređenju proizvodnje osnovnog semena ZP hibrida kukuruza odvijao se po etapama, i uglavnom je pratio dostignuća iz oplemenjivanja i genetike kukurza kao i dostignuća iz tehnologije gajenja i dorade. Kako bi se održao visok nivo kvaliteta hibridnog semena, kao krajnjeg proizvoda, moraju se ulagati kontinuirani napori i u unapređenje tehnologije proizvodnje, sušenja, dorade, skladištenja, genetičke čistoće, osnovnog semena roditeljskih linija ZP hibrida kukurza, koji zauzimaju značajan procenat proizvodnih površina kako Srbije tako i zemalja u regionu.

AB  - This paper discusses the application of the infrared (IR) spectroscopy method for determination of structural properties of maize hybrid grains. The IR spectrum of maize grain has been registered in the following hybrids: ZP 341, ZP 434 and ZP 505. The existence of spectral bands varying in both number and intensity, as well as their shape, frequency and kinetics have been determined. They have been determined by valence oscillations and deformation oscillations of the following organic compounds: alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, amides, alcohols, ethers, carboxylic acids, esters and aldehydes and ketones, characteristic for biogenic compounds such as carbohydrates, proteins and lipids. In this way, possible changes in the grain structure of observed maize hybrids could be detected.
AB  - U ovom radu razmatra se primena metode infracrvene spektro skopije na zrnu hibrida kukuruza radi utvrđivanja njegovih mogućih strukturnih karakteristika. Izvršeno je registrovanje infracrvenog spektra zrna hibrida kukuruza: ZP 341, ZP 434 i ZP 505. Pokazano je postojanje različitih spek tralnih traka, kako po broju i intenzitetu, tako i po njihovom obliku, frekvenciji i kinetici. Do njih se dolazi valentnim oscilacijama i deformacijama funkcionalnih grupa: alkana, alkena, alkina, amida, alkohola, etra, karboksilne ki seline, estra, aldehida i ketona, koje su karakteristične za biogena jedinjenja ugljovodonika, proteina i lipida. Na ovaj način se dolazi do mogućih razlika u strukturi zrna ispitivanih hibrida kukuruza.

With such an experimental approach, the maize inbred lines ZPPL 146 and ZPPL 159 and hybrids derived from them (ZP 633, ZP 735 and ZP 737) rich in proteins have been systematically tested. Based on concrete results the following we can be conclude as follows. Selected maize inbred lines ZPPL 146 and ZPPL 159, rich in carotenoids, yellow pigments, also have significant amounts of other relevant bioactive compounds. Observed inbred lines have erect top leaves and are classified into a group of maize inbreds with significant properties of the photosynthesis model, are resistant to high temperatures and tolerant to drought. Spectral bands pointing to conformational characteristics of molecules of carotenoids but also of other compounds (phosphates, glutens and amides III) were established by the resonance Raman spectroscopy method applied to the leaf of the maize inbred line ZPLL 146. Physiological, biochemical and biophysical traits of elite maize inbred lines and their hybrids were observed in this study with a special emphasis on their efficiency of photosynthesis, productivity and suitability for broad use of nutrient values of grain and other essential biogenic matters, first of all pigments that express antioxidative properties. Relevant traits, properties and parameters of observed maize inbred lines that can be used in the process of selection are presented. These prestigious maize inbred lines were used to develop high-yielding and high-quality maize hybrids (ZP 633, ZP 735 and ZP 737) that are recognisable for their quality in human nutrition (children and the elderly), that are confirmed by medical observations related to their use in food and feed. Relevant agronomic and morphological traits of maize hybrids are presented. Moreover, results on grain structure and yields obtained in the regions of south-eastern Europe are also displayed.

AB  - In this paper the changes on growth, photosynthesis and water relations were tested by non-invasive fluorescence method. The applications of this method allow to determine some functional properties of prestigious maize inbred lines with erect top leaves. So the temperature dependency of delayed fluorescence intensity maximum of ZPPL 16 is observed at higher temperatures than for ZPPZ 62. This fact correlates with low values of phase transition of activation energy Ea in thylakoid membrane and accompanied by a decrease of the angle and area of the leaf, as well as with the content and the rate of water release from the seed. It seems reasonable to assume that, DF can be applied in breeding and maize hybrid seed production for the estimation of prestigious maize inbred lines and their resistance adaptability to increased and high temperatures, as well as, to drought.

AB  - This paper discusses the application of the infrared (IR) spectroscopy method to grain of prestigious maize inbred lines to determine its conformational and functional properties. The IR spectra of prestigious maize inbred lines grain has been registered in: ZPPL 186, ZPPL 225 and M1-3-3 Sdms. The existence of spectral bands varying in both, number and intensity and their shape, frequency and kinetics has been determined. Infrared spectral bands are determined by transmittance (%) and frequency (cm-1) of chemical bonds' valence oscillations and deformation oscillations in functional groups: alkanes, alkenes, alcines, alcohols, ethers, carboxylic acids, esters, aldehydes and ketones that are characteristic for biogenic compounds of carbohydrates, vitamins, pigments and dietary fibres. By analyzing IR spectral bands, conformational and functional properties of bio-genic compounds can be detected in grain of observed prestigious maize inbred lines.
AB  - U ovom radu razmatra se primena metode infracrvene spektroskopije pri istraživanju zrna elitnih inbred linija kukuruza radi utvrđivanja konformacionih i funkcionalnih svojstava zrna. Registrovani su infracrveni spektri zrna inbred linija kukuruza: ZPPL 186, ZPPL 225 i M1- 3-3 Sdms. Utvrđeno je da kod infracrvenih spektara postoje različite spektralne trake koje se međusobno razlikuju kako po svojoj brojnosti u spektru i po svom intenzitetu, tako i po svojem obliku, svojoj frekvenciji i svojoj kinetici. Svaka spektralna traka definisana je intenzitetom apsorpcije infracrvenog zračenja, tj. transmi-tancom u (%) i frekvencijom oscilacija u (cm-1) valentnih i deformacionih oscilacija hemijskih veza koje postoje kod sledećih funkcionalnih grupa: alkana, alkena, alkina, alkohola, etra, karboksilne kiseline, estra, aldehida i ketona. Te funkcionalne grupe su karakteristične za biogena jedinjenja iz sastava ugljovodonika, vitamina, pigmenata i dijetetskih vlakana. Analizirajući trake infracrvenih spektara mogu se dijagnostikovati konformaciona i funkcionalna svojstva zrna ispitivanih inbred linija kukuruza.

Potential of early maturity flint and dent maize hybrids at higher altitudes

AB  - There is a growing trend in production of early maturity maize hybrids as far north and on higher altitudes as possible, even in regions where they were not previously cultivated. Thus, an increased demand at the global market for early maturity maize hybrids of FAO 100 and 200 is present. These hybrids are able to mature under not so favourable temperature conditions. The experiments were performed in Planinica - central part of Serbia at 650 m above sea level, during four years (2001-2004). Nine Zemun Polje (ZP) dent and nine flint hybrids of the FAO 100 and 200 were observed. The highest average grain yield (7.19 t ha(-1)) was recorded in 2002 and it was also high in 2004 was (7.18 t ha(-1)), while in the remaining two years, yields were significantly lower (6.50 t ha(-1) - 2001 and 4.32 t ha(-1) - 2003). In more productive years two dent hybrids: ZP 290 (9.90 t ha(-1) in 2002) and ZP 251 (10.22 t ha(-1) in 2004) gave highest yields, while under less favourable weather conditions two flints ZP 114 (7.45 t ha(-1) in 2001) and ZP 125 (5.40 t ha(-1) in 2003) were most productive. Flint hybrid ZP 115 (7.22 t ha(-1)) was the highest yielding, on average. Also, high average yields were observed in two dent hybrids ZP 290 (7.10 t ha(-1)) and ZP 248 (6.88 t ha(-1)), and one flint ZP 246 (7.09 t ha(-1)). Thus, these four early maize hybrids were characterized as genotypes of high yielding potential.

AB  - This study confirmed our hypothesis that new maize inbred lines and hybrids derived from them had a dominant property of an efficient photosynthetic model. This property is successfully used in breeding programmes, modern technologies of the seed, and commercial maize production. This statement is supported by the results displayed on the erect position of the top leaves of new maize inbred lines and photosynthetic and florescence parameters: the change of the delayed chlorophyll fluorescence intensity during its course and dynamics, the Arrhenius criterion for the determination of critical temperatures (phase transition temperatures) and the activation energies, as a measure of conformational changes in chloroplasts and the thylakoid membrane. Furthermore, a grain structure including its physical and chemical parameters of new maize inbred lines and hybrids was analysed in the present study. In addition, relevant breeding, seed production and technological traits, properties and parameters of new maize inbred lines and maize hybrids were observed in the present study. The overall presented results show that properties of new inbred lines and maize hybrids are based on the nature of conformational and functional changes that occur in their chloroplasts and thylakoid membranes, as well as, on progressive effects in modern breeding, contemporary hybrid seed production, and the commercial maize production.
AB  - Proučavane su dve nove inbred linije kukuruza: ZPPL 218 i ZPPL 318 i sa njima stvoreni perspektivni hibridi ZP 600, ZP 606 i ZP 666 za koje je dokazano da poseduju dominantno svojstvo efikasnog fotosintetičnog modela što se uspešno koristi u oplemenjivanju, savremenim tehnologijama za proizvodnju hibridnog semena i merkantilnog kukuruza. Ovoj konstataciji idu u prilog izloženi rezultati o uspravnom položaju vršnih listova novih inbred linija kukuruza i o fotosintetično-fluorescentnim pokazateljima: promeni intenziteta zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila u njenom toku i dinamici, Arenijusovom kriterijumu za određivanje kritičnih temperatura (temperature faznih prelaza) i o energiji aktivacije kao meri strukturnih promena u hloroplastima i tilakoidnoj membrani. U radu se analizira struktura zrna uključujući i njegove fizičke i hemijske pokazatelje novih inbred linija i hibrida kukuruza. Isto tako, u radu se razmatraju relevantna selekcionarska, semenarska i tehnološka svojstva, karakteristike i parametri novih inbred linija i hibrida kukuruza. Ukupno izloženi rezultati pokazuju da su svojstva novih inbred linija i hibrida kukuruza zasnovana na prirodi strukturnih i funkcionalnih promena, koje se odigravaju u hloroplastima i tilakoidnoj membrani kao i na progresivnim efektima u modernom oplemenjivanju, savremenoj proizvodnji hibridnog semena i merkantilnog kukuruza.

AB  - U ovom radu potvrđuje se naša hipoteza da postoje elitne inbred linije kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova koje poseduju dominantno svojstvo efikasnog fotosintetično-fluorescentnog modela, te da se, kao takve, mogu uspešno koristiti u savremenim programima oplemenjivanja i proizvodnje hibridnog semena kukuruza. Ovoj konstataciji idu u prilog izloženi rezultati o uspravnom položaju vršnih listova prestižnih linija kukuruza, dinamici otpuštanja vode iz zrna u periodu sazrevanja i o fotosintetično-fluorescentnim pokazateljima: temperaturnoj zavisnosti intenziteta zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila, Arenijusovom kriterijumu za određivanje kritičnih temperatura (temperature faznih prelaza) i o energiji aktivacije. Ukupno izloženi rezultati pokazuju da su svojstva prestižnih inbred linija kukuruza zasnovana na prirodi strukturnih i funkcionalnih promena, koje se odigravaju u njihovim tilakoidnim membranama i drugim hemijskim strukturama tkiva intaktnog lista i zrna, kao i na pozitivnim efektima u oplemenjivanju kukuruza.

AB  - U ovom radu vršena su proučavanja novih elitnih inbred linija kukuruza: ZPPL 218 i ZPPL 318 i perspektivnih hibrida kukuruza ZP 600, ZP 606 i ZP 666 stvorenih iz njih. Pokazano je da se potvrđuje naša hipoteza da nove elitne inbred linije i perspektivni hibridi kukuruza poseduju dominantno svojstvo efikasnog fotosintetičnog modela što se uspešno koristi u oplemenjivanju, savremenim tehnologijama proizvodnje hibridnog semena i merkantilnog kukuruza. Moreover, other relevant significant breeding and seed production properties (commercial maize quality over grain structure, physical and chemical parameters) of maize inbred lines and their hybrids were analyzed in the present study.
AB  - Proučavane su četiri prestižne inbred linije kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova: ZPPL 16, ZPPL 218, ZPPL 62 i ZPPL 233. Ove linije su, kao majka ili otac, uključene u stvaranje više od 50 hibrida kukuruza. U tekućem srednjeročnom periodu široku komercijalnu primenu našao je veći broj hibrida kukuruza: ZP 341, ZP 360, ZP 434, ZP 578, ZP 606, ZP 677, ZP 684 i drugi. U ovom radu analizirani su samo reprezentativni hibridi kukuruza: ZP 341 (FAO 300), ZP 434 (FAO 400), ZP 578 (FAO 500) i ZP 684 (FAO 600). Ovim radom potvrđuje se naša hipoteza da postoje elitne inbred linije i hibridi kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova, koji poseduju dominantno svojstvo efikasnog fotosintetično-fluorescentnog modela i uspešno se koriste u savremenim programima oplemenjivanja, proizvodnji hibridnog semena i merkantilnog kukuruza. Ovaj zaključak dobijen je uz primenu neinvazivnog fotosintetično-fluorescentnog metoda pogodnog za ocenu efikasnosti fotomodela. Dobijene fotosintetične karakteristike proučavanih prestižnih inbred linija kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova zasnovane su na efektima i prirodi promena zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila koje se odigravaju u njihovim tilakoidnim membranama, čiji su pokazatelji temperaturna zavisnost intenziteta zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila, Arenijusov kriterijum za utvrđivanje kritičnih temperatura (temperature faznih prelaza) u tilakoidnim membranama i energije aktivacije. Izloženi rezultati o veličini ugla između pravca prostiranja prvog lista iznad klipa i pravca prostiranja stabljike, kao i rezultati o dinamici oslobađanja vode iz zrna u periodu njegovog sazrevanja dodatno pokazuju da su svojstva proučavanih inbred linija kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova pogodni kriterijumi za egzaktniji, racionalniji i brži proces oplemenjivanja. abstract = "This study confirms the hypothesis that there are elite maize inbred lines and hybrids with erect top leaves, which have a dominant property of an efficient photosynthetic and fluorescent model that is successfully used in modern breeding programmes and the production hybrid seed and commercial maize. This statement is supported by the displayed results on the erect top leaves, the dynamics of grain dry-down during the maturation period and photosynthetic and florescence parameters: the temperature dependence of the delayed chlorophyll fluorescence intensity, the Arrhenius criterion for the determination of critical temperatures (phase transition temperatures) and the activation energies. The presented results show that properties of observed maize inbreds and their hybrids are based on the nature of conformational and functional changes that occur in their thylakoid membranes and other chemical tissues structures of grain and intact leaves, as well as, on positive effects in maize breeding. Moreover, other relevant significant breeding and seed production properties (commercial maize quality over grain structure, physical and chemical parameters) of maize inbred lines and their hybrids were analyzed in the present study., Proučavane su četiri prestižne inbred linije kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova: ZPPL 16, ZPPL 218, ZPPL 62 i ZPPL 233. Ove linije su, kao majka ili otac, uključene u stvaranje više od 50 hibrida kukuruza. U tekućem srednjeročnom periodu široku komercijalnu primenu našao je veći broj hibrida kukuruza: ZP 341, ZP 360, ZP 434, ZP 578, ZP 606, ZP 677, ZP 684 i drugi. U ovom radu analizirani su samo reprezentativni hibridi kukuruza: ZP 341 (FAO 300), ZP 434 (FAO 400), ZP 578 (FAO 500) i ZP 684 (FAO 600). Ovim radom potvrđuje se naša hipoteza da postoje elitne inbred linije i hibridi kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova, koji poseduju dominantno svojstvo efikasnog fotosintetično-fluorescentnog modela i uspešno se koriste u savremenim programima oplemenjivanja, proizvodnji hibridnog semena i merkantilnog kukuruza. Ovaj zaključak dobijen je uz primenu neinvazivnog fotosintetično-fluorescentnog metoda pogodnog za ocenu efikasnosti fotomodela. Dobijene fotosintetične karakteristike proučavanih prestižnih inbred linija kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova zasnovane su na efektima i prirodi promena zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila koje se odigravaju u njihovim tilakoidnim membranama, čiji su pokazatelji temperaturna zavisnost intenziteta zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila, Arenijusov kriterijum za utvrđivanje kritičnih temperatura (temperature faznih prelaza) u tilakoidnim membranama i energije aktivacije. Izloženi rezultati o veličini ugla između pravca prostiranja prvog lista iznad klipa i pravca prostiranja stabljike, kao i rezultati o dinamici oslobađanja vode iz zrna u periodu njegovog sazrevanja dodatno pokazuju da su svojstva proučavanih inbred linija kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova pogodni kriterijumi za egzaktniji, racionalniji i brži proces oplemenjivanja. AB  - Standard induction processes of delayed fluorescence (DF) of chlorophyll (induction signals) occur when an intact leaf segment of maize inbreds and hybrids is kept in the phosphoroscope darkroom for more than 15 minutes (t > 15 min), and at the same time the leaf is illuminated with the intermittent white light. Resolved induction processes of DF chlorophyll into transients: A, B, C, D and E occur when the intact leaf segment of maize inbreds and hybrids is kept in the phosphoroscope darkroom for a significantly shorter period (500 s > t > 30 s), with the time rate t of 30 s, prior to its illumination with the intermittent white light. Induction transients: A, B, C, D and E are characterized with the time of their generation: tA = 31±6 ms (A), tB = 5 ± 0,5 s (B), tC = 15±5 s (C), tD = 360±20 s (D) and tE = 670±35 s (E), dynamics of changes in transients intensities (IA, IB, IC, ID and IE) and mechanisms of their generation. The induction processes of chlorophyll DF of the intact leaf of maize inbreds and hybrids resolved into transients: A, B, C, D and E are accompanied by the occurrence and different levels of activation energy (Ea, kJ mol-1) that correspond to critical temperatures ranging from 28 to 33°C. The generation mechanisms of induction transients A, B, C, D and E classify them into two groups. Transients A and B are of a physical character, while the transients: C, D, and E are of a chemical character. It is shown that the generation of the induction transients: B, C, D and E simultaneously follows establishing of the oscillations of induction processes of the DF chlorophyll. Oscillating of induction processes of DF chlorophyll is explained by the ion (K+, Na+, H+, Cl-) transport mechanism across the thylakoid membrane of the intact leaf of maize inbreds and hybrids grown under conditions of air drought, increased temperatures and water deficiency in the medium.
AB  - U ovom radu ostvaruje se primena poboljšanog fotosintetično-fluorescentnog metoda u proučavanju složenih indukcionih procesa zakasnele fluorescencije (ZF) hlorofila, koji su razloženi na tranzijente: A, B, C, D i E i kod kojih mogu da nastanu oscilacije. Međuzavisnost oscilacija i indukcionih tranzijenata: A, B, C, D i E javlja se kod intaktnih listova linija (ZPR 70ž i Oh 43) i hibrida (ZPDC 360, ZPSC 46A, ZPSC 704 i ZPSC 71) kukuruza koji su gajeni u staklari u uslovima različite vazdušne suše, delovanja viših temperatura i deficita vode u podlozi. Posebno se ukazuje na uslove pri kojima dolazi do uspostavljanja standardnih indukcionih procesa ZF hlorofila. Daje se kraći opis standardne indukcione krive ZF hlorofila. Znatno detaljnije daju se eksperimentalni rezultati o razlaganju indukcionih procesa ZF hlorofila na tranzijente: A, B, C, D i E. Pokazani su vremenski i fizičko-hemijski parametri za proučavane indukcione tranzijente. Objašnjeni su njihova priroda i mehanizmi nastajanja. Utvrđene su karakteristike i mehanizam nastajanja oscilacija indukcionih procesa ZF hlorofila. Dati su uslovi pri kojima dolazi do pojave pobuđenog stanja, nastajanja fluktuacija i uspostavljanja oscilacija indukcionih procesa ZF hlorofila u tilakoidnoj membrani intaktnog lista linija i hibrida kukuruza. Izneta je hipoteza o mehanizmu nastajanja oscilacija. Objašnjena je međuzavisnost uspostavljanja oscilacija i tranzijenata indukcionih procesa ZF hlorofila.

AB  - This study conforms the hypothesis that there are elite maize inbred lines with erect top leaves that have a property of an efficient photosynthetic model and that as such are successfully used in the processes of breeding in which the number of plants is increased per area unit (plant density). This proof was established by the application of non- invasive photosynthetic-fluorescence method suitable for the evaluation of the efficiency of the photosynthetic model. The obtained photosynthetic and fluorescence properties of observed prestigious maize inbred lines with the erect top leaves are based on the effects and the nature of changes in chlorophyll fluorescence occurring in their thylakoid membranes. Their principal parameters are temperature dependence of the chlorophyll delayed fluorescence intensity, the Arrhenius plot for the determination of the phase transition in thylakoid membranes and the estimated activation energies. The displayed results on the size of an angle between the direction of the propagation of the above-ear leaf and the direction of the stalk propagation, as well as, results on the dynamics of grain dry-down during the maturation period, additionally indicate that traits of observed maize inbred lines with erect top leaves are the prominent base for more exact, rational and faster proceeding of current processes of breeding.
AB  - Proučavane su tri prestižne inbred linije kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova: ZPPL 16, ZPPL 218, ZPPL 62. Ove linije su, bilo kao majka, bilo kao otac uključene u stvaranju više od 45 hibrida kukuruza. Međutim, u ovom srednjeročnom periodu, široku komercijalnu primenu ima više od deset hibrida kukuruza: ZP-341, ZP-360, ZP-434, ZP-578, ZP-606, ZP-677, ZP-684 i drugi.Ovim radom potvrđena je hipoteza da elitne inbred linije kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova imaju svojstvo efikasnog fotosintetičnog modela i da se, kao takve, u procesu oplemenjivanja uspešno koriste pri povećavanju broja biljaka na jedinici površine (gustina biljaka). Ovaj dokaz ostvaren je uz primenu neinvazivnog fotosintetično-fluorescentnog metoda pogodnog za ocenu efikasnosti foto modela. Dobijene fotosintetične karakteristike proučavanih prestižnih inbred linija kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova zasnovane su na efektima i prirodi promena zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila koje se odigravaju u njihovim tilakoidnim membranama. Njihovi glavni pokazatelji su temperaturna zavisnost intenziteta zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila, Arrhenijusov kriterijum za utvrđivanje faznih prelaza u tilakoidnim membranama i energije aktivacije. Izloženi rezultati o veličini ugla između pravca prostiranja prvog lista iznad klipa i pravca prostiranja stabljike, kao i rezultati o dinamici otpuštanja vode iz zrna u periodu njegovog sazrevanja dodatno pokazuju da su svojstva proučavanih inbred linija kukuruza sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova prestižna osnova za egzaktija, racionalnija i brža odvijanja savremenih procesa oplemenjivanja.

AB  - The following three prestigious maize inbred lines with erect top leaves: ZPPL 16, ZPPL 218 and ZPPL 62 were observed in this study. Each of these inbreds, either as a female or a male component, was included into the development of over 45 maize hybrids. However, maize hybrids ZP 431, ZP 434, ZP 578 and ZP 684 are widely commercially used in this medium-term period. This study conforms the hypothesis that there are elite maize inbred lines with erect top leaves and hybrids derived from them that have a dominant property of an efficient photosynthetic-fluorescence model that is successfully used in breeding and production technologies of hybrid seed and commercial maize. The presented results on the position of top leaves, increased density, dynamics of grain dry down, quality of hybrid and commercial maize and on photosynthetic and fluorescence parameters: temperature dependence on the chlorophyll delayed fluorescence intensity, Arrhenius plot for the determination of critical temperatures (phase transition temperatures) and activation energies, show that the properties of observed inbred lines and their maize hybrids are based on positive effects and the nature of structural and functional changes that occur in their thylakoid membranes and other chemical structures of grain and leaf tissues. Furthermore, other relevant breeding and seed production properties of observed prestigious maize inbred lines and hybrids derived from them were analyzed (dependence of yields on densities and quality of commercial maize on the structure of grain and physical and chemical properties).
AB  - U ovom radu potvrđuje se naša hipoteza da postoje elitne samooplodne linije i sa njima stvoreni hibridi kukuruza, sa uspravnim položajem vršnih listova, koje poseduju dominantno svojstvo efikasnog fotosintetično-fluorescentnog modela što se uspešno koristi u oplemenjivanju, savremenim tehnologijama proizvodnje hibridnog semena i merkatilnog kukuruza. Izloženi rezultati o uspravnom položaju vršnih listova, povećanoj gustini, dinamici otpuštanja vode iz zrna u periodu sazrevanja, kvalitetu semena hibridnog i merkantilnog kukuruza i o fotosintetično-fluorescentnim pokazateljima: temperaturnoj zavisnosti intenziteta zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila, Arenijusovom kriterijumu za određivanje kritičnih temperatura (temperature faznih prelaza) i energija aktivacije, pokazuju da su svojstva proučavanih linija i njihovih hibrida kukuruza zasnovana na pozitivnim efektima i prirodi strukturnih i funkcionalnih promena, koje se odigravaju u njihovim tilakoidnim membranama i drugim hemijskim strukturama tkiva zrna i lista. U radu se analiziraju i druge relevantne selekcione i semenarske karakteristike proučavanih prestižnih samooplodnih linija kukuruza i sa njima stvorenih hibrida kukuruza (zavisnost prinosa od gustine i kvalitet merkantilnog kukuruza preko strukture zrna i fizičkih i hemijskih parametara).

AB  - The obtained results confirm the hypothesis that there are maize elite inbred lines (ZPPL 62 and ZPPL 233) that are considered prestigious and are characteristic by their water status and a greater rate of a dry down during the grain maturation. Also, they are characteristic by their efficient photosynthetic-fluorescence photo-model, which is successfully used in the contemporary technological productions of maize hybrid seed. The presented results on the dynamics of grain dry down during the maturation period and on photosynthetic and fluorescence parameters: temperature dependency of the intensity of delay chlorophyll fluorescence, the Arrhenius plot for the determination of critical temperatures (phase transition temperatures), activation energy and the angle between the ear leaf and the stalk of the maize plant, show that traits of observed inbreds are mainly based on good effects and nature of conformational and functional changes that occur in their thylakoid membranes and other chemical structures of grain and leaf tissue. Some other properties of observed prestigious maize inbred lines relevant to the seed production were also analyzed in this study.
AB  - U ovom radu potvrđuje se hipoteza da postoje elitne samooplodne linije kukuruza koje se smatraju prestižnim i koje poseduju, kako svojstvo stanja vode i njenog bržeg otpuštanja iz zrna u periodu sazrevanja, tako i svojstvo efikasnog fotosintetično-fluorescentnog fotomodela, koji se uspešno koristi u savremenim tehnologijama proizvodnje hibridnog semena kukuruza. Izloženi rezultati o dinamici otpuštanja vode iz zrna u periodu sazrevanja i o fotosintetično-fluorescentnim pokazateljima: teperaturnoj zavisnosti intenziteta zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila, Arenijusovim kriterijumom za određivanje kritičnih temperatura (temperature faznih prelaza), energija aktivacije i veličine ugla između lista na klipu i stabljike kukuruza, pokazuju da su svojstva proučavanih linija zasnovana na dobrim efektima i prirodi strukturnih i funkcionalnih promena, koje se odigravaju u njihovim tilakoidnim membranama i drugim hemijskim strukturama tkiva zrna i lista. U radu se analiziraju i druge relevantne semenarske karakteristike proučavanih prestižnih samooplodnih linija kukuruza.

AB  - The three-year four-replication trials with two sowing densities were set up according to randomized complete block design under conditions of irrigation in two locations in order to determine the effects of a proportion and a size of a vegetation area of parental lines on the number of seeds of maize hybrids ZP 42 A and ZP 704. Hemp was sown in border belts of 3.2 m in width that were the isolation between experimental variants. The number and the arrangement of parental rows were 4:2 in favor of a female component. The number of plants per area unit amounted to 55,000 and 65,000 per hectare. The inter-row distance for the female component amounted to 70 cm, while there were the following two distances for the male component: 70 cm and 50 cm. The proportion of areas under female component plants amounted to 66.7% and 72.2%. A statistically high significance of the environment (location x growing season), the inter-row distance of male component plants, the rows of female component plants and the density, i.e. the number of plants, was determined by the analysis of variance for the total number of kernels-seeds per ear of female component plants.
AB  - Tokom trogodišnjih istraživanja u dve lokacije i dve gustine, utvrđen je uticaj proporcije i veličine vegetacionog prostora roditeljskih linija na broj semena hibrida kukuruza ZP 42 A i ZP 704. Ogled je postavljen po potpuno slučajnom blok-sistemu u četiri ponavljanja u uslovima navodnjavanja. Izolacija između oglednih varijanti bila je konoplja zasejana u trake širine 3,2 m. Broj i raspored redova roditeljskih linija bio je 4:2 u korist linije-majke. Broj biljaka po jedinici površine bio je 55.000 i 65.000 biljaka po hektaru. Za redove biljaka linije-majke međuredno rastojanje iznosilo je 70 cm a kod redova biljaka linije-oca bile su dve varijante: 70 cm i 50 cm. Učešće (proporcija) površine pod biljkama linije-majke iznosila je 66,7% i 72,2%. Analizom varijanse za ukupan broj zrna-semena na klipu biljaka linije-majke utvrđena je statistički visoka značajnost spoljne sredine (lokacija x vegetacioni period), međurednog rastojanja biljaka linije-oca, redova biljaka linije-majke i gustine tj. broja biljaka.

AB  - This study conforms our hypothesis that there are elite maize inbred lines, which can be considered actual and prestigious as they have not only a property of the water status and a greater grain dry down rate during the maturation period, but also a property of the efficient photosynthetic-fluorescence model that is successfully used in the contemporary processes of breeding, and thereby in the development of new and yielding maize hybrids. Presented results obtained on the dynamics of grain dry down during the maturation period and on photosynthetic-fluorescence parameters (temperature dependence of the chlorophyll delayed fluorescence intensity, the Arrhenius plot for the determination of critical temperatures, i.e. phase transition temperatures and the activation energy) show that properties of the observed inbreeds are based on effects and nature of conformational and functional changes occurring in their thylakoid membranes and other chemical structures of grain tissues. Summarized results of studies on actual and prestigious properties of maize inbreeds will contribute to more exact, rational and expeditious proceedings of contemporary processes of breeding.
AB  - Idejom za ovaj rad potvrđuje se naša hipoteza da postoje elitne linije kukuruza koje se smatraju aktuelnim i prestižnim i koje poseduju, kako svojstvo stanja vode i njenog bržeg otpuštanja iz zrna u periodu sazrevanja, tako i svojstvo efikasnog fotosintetično-fluorescentnog modela, koji se uspešno koristi u savremenim procesima oplemenjivanja, a time i za stvaranje novih i rodnijih hibrida kukuruza. Izloženi rezultati o dinamici otpuštanja vode iz zrna u periodu sazrevanja i o fotosintetično-fluorescentnim pokazateljima: teperaturnoj zavisnosti intenziteta zakasnele fluorescencije hlorofila, Arrhenijus-ovim kriterijumom za određivanje kritičnih temperatura i energija aktivacije, pokazuju da su svojstva proučavanih linija zasnovana na efektima i prirodi strukturnih i funkcionalnih promena koje se odigravaju u njihovim tilakoidnim membranama i drugim hemijskim strukturama tkiva zrna. Sumarni rezultati proučavanja aktuelnih i prestižnih svojstava linija kukuruza doprineće egzaktnijem, racionalnijem i bržem odvijanju savremenih procesa oplemenjivanja.

AB  - The intact leaves of four maize hybrids: ZP 360, ZP 46A, Zp 633 i ZP 704 and two maize inbred lines ZPR 70ž i Oh 43, tolerant and resistant to the impact of increased and high temperatures and drought were observed in the present study. The improved, non-invasive photosynthetic-fluorescence method was applied in studying of complex delayed chlorophyll fluorescence induction processes that were resolved into transients: A, B, C, D and E in which instabilities, fluctuations and oscillations can occur. The interrelationship between transients and oscillations of the delayed chlorophyll fluorescence induction processes occurred in the intact leaves of maize inbreds and hybrids that were grown in the green-house under conditions of different air drought, impacts of temperatures and the water deficit in the medium, when their thylakoid membranes had been excited and significant structural and functional changes had occurred. The existence of transients: A, B, C, D and E of delayed chlorophyll fluorescence induction processes was determined. The time and physico-chemical parameters of these transients were presented. The mechanisms of their generation were explained. The properties of oscillatory performances of delayed chlorophyll fluorescence induction processes were determined. The conditions under which instable state and fluctuations occurred and oscillations were established in the excited thylakoid membrane of the intact leaf of maize inbreds and hybrids were presented. The hypothesis on the mechanism of establishing of oscillations and their interrelation with transients of delayed chlorophyll fluorescence induction processes was presented.
AB  - Razloženi indukcioni procesi zakasnele fluorescencije (ZF) hlorofila na tranzijente: A, B, C, D i E nastaju kada se segment intaktnog lista linija i hibrida kukuruza drži u mračnoj komori fosforoskopa znatno kraće vreme (30 s ≤ τ ≤ 240 s), pre njegovog intermitentnog osvetljavanja sa belom svetlošću. Tranzijente indukcionih procesa: A, B, C, D i E karakterišu njihovi vremenski parametri: tA, tB, tC, tD i tE, promena intenziteta tranzijenata, parametri i mehanizmi njihovog nastajanja. Razloženi indukcioni procesi ZF hlorofila intaktnog lista linija i hibrida kukuruza na tranzijente: A, B, C, D i E praćeni su pojavom i različitim nivoima vrednosti energije aktivacije (Ea, kJ/mol) koje odgovaraju različitim kritičnim temperaturama faznih prelaza u pobuđenoj tilakoidnoj membrani. Mehanizmi nastajanja tranzijenata indukcionih procesa: A, B, C, D i E imaju dve prirode. Tranzijenti A i B su fizičke, a tranzijenti: C, D i E su hemijske prirode. Pokazano je da nastajanje tranzijenata: B, C, D i E istovremeno prati uspostavljanje oscilacija indukcionih procesa ZF hlorofila. Po našoj hipotezi, međuzavisnost tranzijenata i oscilacija indukcionih procesa ZF hlorofila dovode se u neraskidivu vezu. Oscilovanje indukcionih procesa ZF hlororfila objašnjava se strukturnim i funkcionalnim promenama u pobuđenoj tilakoidnoj membrani intaktnog lista linija i hibrida kukuruza koji su gajeni u uslovima vazdušne suše, povećanih temperatura i deficita vode u podlozi.

AB  - The delayed chlorophyll fluorescence method, as a non-invasive bioluminescence method, is recommended for the application in maize breeding and seed production in order to evaluate maize inbred lines for their resistance and adaptability to increased and high temperatures, as well as, to drought. The following thermal properties of the photosynthetic apparatus of the observed maize inbred lines: the temperature dependence within a range of 25-60°C, critical temperatures at which phase transitions occur in the thylakoid membrane were discovered and by means of it significant functional changes in the photosynthetic apparatus of observed maize inbred lines were detected. activation energies (Ea, kJ mol-1) alongside the straight lines prior and after critical temperatures were calculated. Ea are a measure of occurrence of chlorophyll DF recombination processes and by that a measure of the total changes in structure and functioning of the thylakoid membranes. Thylakoid membranes underwent significant conformational changes in the part following the maximum intensity, i.e. in the part of its sharp linear decline. Such a state fits more to a non-living than a living organism in relation to its both, structure and functions. Results and the discussion of presented parameters of total thermal processes of chlorophyll DF, such as: temperature dependence, critical temperatures and activation energy, can be an important factor for a more exact characterization of maize inbred lines in relation to their resistance and adaptation to temperature and drought, contributing to a rapider and more rational development of the selection process.
AB  - Utvrđene su termalne karakteristike fotosintetičnog aparata proučavanih samooplodnih linija kukuruza, i to: određena je dinamika temperaturne zavisnosit u opsegu od 25 do 60°C, otkrivene su kritične temperature na kojima dolazi do faznih transformacija u tilakoidnoj membrani, a time i do značajnih strukturnih i funkcionalnih promena u fotosintetičnom aparatu ispitivanih samooplodnih linija kukuruza, obračunate su energije aktivacije (Ea, kJ/mol) duž pravih linija pre i posle nastanka kritične temperature. Energija aktivacije je mera nastajanja rekombinacionih reakcija povezanih sa uspostavljanjem zakasnele fluorescencije (ZF) hlorofila, a time i ukupnih promena u strukturi i funkciji tilakodinih membrana. Rezultati i diskusija izloženih parametara ukupnih terminalnih procesa ZF hlorofila, kao što su: temperaturna zavisnost, kritične temperature i energija aktivacije mogu doprineti egzaktnijem karakterisanju samooplodnih linija kukuruza u odnosu na njihovu otpornost i adaptivnost prema višoj i visokoj temperaturi i suši, što doprinosi egzaktnijem i racionalnijem odvijanju procesa oplemenjivanja.

AB  - The application of the improved non-invasive photosynthetic-fluorescence method in maize breeding and seed production was observed in order to assess the resistance and adaptability of maize inbred lines to higher and high temperatures, as well as to drought. The studies were carried out with two maize inbred lines (ZPPL 115 and A 671). The thermal characteristics of the photosynthetic apparatus of the investigated maize inbred lines were determined as follows: temperature dependency range from 25 to 60oC, critical temperatures at which phase transitions take place in the thylakoid membrane, causing significant structural and functional changes in the photosynthetic apparatus of the investigated inbred lines, activation energies (Ea, kJ/mol) were calculated along the straight lines before and after the occurrence of the critical temperature. The activation energy (Ea) is a measure of the intensity of recombining responses to chlorophyll DF, and total changes in the structure and functioning of the thylakoid membranes. The results obtained and presented parameters of total photosynthetic and thermal processes of chlorophyll DF may contribute to a more accurate characterisation of maize inbred lines in respect to their resistance and adaptability to temperatures and drought. AB  - Poboljšani neinvazivni fotosintetično-fluorescentni metod kandiduje se za primenu u oplemenjivanju i semenarstvu radi utvrđivanja ocene samooplodnih linija kukuruza na plastičnost, tolerantnost, otpornost i adaptivnost prema višim i visokim temperaturama, kao i prema suši. Utvrđene su termalne karakteristike fotosintetičnog aparata proučavanih samooplodnih linija kukuruza, i to: određena je temperaturna zavisnost u opsegu od 25 do 60oC, otkrivene su kritične temperature na kojima dolazi do faznih transformacija u tilakoidnoj membrani, a time i do značajnih strukturnih i funkcionalnih promena u fotosintetičnom aparatu ispitivanih samooplodnih linija kukuruza, obračunate su energije aktivacije (Ea, kJ/mol) duž pravih linija pre i posle pojavljivanja kritične temperature. Energija aktivacije (Ea) je mera nastajanja rekombinacionih reakcija povezanih sa uspostavljanjem ZF hlorofila, a time i ukupnih promena u strukturi i funkciji tilakodinih membrana. Ostvareni rezultati i diskusija izloženih parametara ukupnih fotosintetično-termalnih procesa ZF hlorofila mogu doprineti egzaktnijem karakterisanju ispitivanih samooplodnih linija kukuruza u odnosu na njihovu plastičnost, tolerantnost, otpornost i adaptivnost prema temperaturi i suši, što samim tim i doprinosi bržem i racionalnijem unapređenju procesa selekcije i produktivne semenske proizvodnje.

AB  - The delayed chlorophyll fluorescence method, as a non-invasive bioluminescence method, is recommended for the application in maize breeding and seed production in order to evaluate maize inbred lines for their resistance and adaptability to increased and high temperatures, as well as, to drought. The flowing thermal properties of the photosynthetic apparatus of the observed maize inbred lines: the temperature dependence within a range of 25-60oC, critical temperatures at which phase transitions occur in the thylakoid membrane were discovered and by means of its significant functional changes in the photosynthetic apparatus of observed maize inbred lines were detected. activation energies (Ea, kJ mol-1) alongside the straight lines prior and after critical temperatures were calculated. Ea are a measure of occurrence of chlorophyll DF recombination processes and by that a measure of the total changes in structure and functioning of the thylakoid membranes. Thylakoid membranes underwent significant conformational changes in the part following the maximum intensity, i.e. in the part of its sharp linear decline. Such a state fits more to a nonliving than a living organism in relation to its both, structure and functions. Results and the discussion of presented parameters of total thermal processes of chlorophyll DF, such as: temperature dependence, critical temperatures and activation energy, can be an important factor for a more exact characterization of maize inbred lines in relation to their resistance and adaptation to temperature and drought, contributing to a rapider and more rational development of the selection process.

AB  - The initial idea of this paper was a hypothesis that upright leaves of maize inbred lines were characteristic for an efficient photosynthetic model and that as such were very desirable in increasing the number of plants per area unit (plant density) in the process of contemporary breeding and seed production. The application of a semi in vivo photosynthetic bioluminescence method (leaf segment is still alive and all process are active), suitable for the efficiency estimation of the model, verified the hypothesis. Obtained photosynthetic properties of observed upright leaves of maize inbred lines were based on the effect and photosynthetic characteristics of thermal processes of delayed chlorophyll fluorescence (DF) occurring in their thylakoid membranes. The temperature dependence of the delayed chlorophyll fluorescence intensity, phase transition (critical temperatures) and activation energy are the principal photosynthetic parameters of the thermal processes in the thylakoid membrane. Based on obtained photosynthetic and bioluminescence properties it is possible to select maize inbred lines having upright leaves that are resistant and tolerant to high and very high temperatures, as well as to drought. The selected maize inbred lines could be considered as the efficient photosynthetic model and as such could be used in the improvement of the contemporary maize breeding and seed production.
